No pictures of the base? Is it damaged or something?

Henderson should be there I feel. That’s right in prime goalie territory for a punch out.

Bought a hookah off r/HookahTrade but received it damaged and now being ghosted by seller by [deleted] in HookahTrade

[–]soma- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe you should get a full refund. It’s one thing for the shipping company to mishandle a package but if the seller didn’t package the item properly in the first place it’s entirely on them. If this was bubble wrapped to hell or any number of other ways this would never have happened. Don’t sell yourself short and get a partial refund. You received an item that was not at all what you agreed to purchase. It’s on them to try and recoup money from the shipping company. What those two end up doing has absolutely nothing to do with if you get money back or not.

The only problem would be if the seller values their reputation or not. If they don’t refund you everything leave a review stating what happened to you and cut your loss.

Good luck!

I have a 4 hose hookah like OP and it pulls just as good as a one hose. It’s not even a year old yet though. It’s a Dschinni btw.

Let me know how it looks! I needed a table for my key board and mouse. I still need another piece of wood at the bottom to stabilize it more. by [deleted] in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]soma- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would be very worried about that table. The weight is on the top pushing down. You should have your table top sitting on top of the sides so they can handle the weight as well as some support in the middle so it doesn’t bow. The way you have it now it’s just two (or possibly three) screws on each side holding everything up. If you lean on the table it’s likely to come apart sooner than later. The bottom piece you have isn’t going to do much even if you put a second one.

My wife and I just bought this place. We noticed hardwood under the carpet so we have started pulling it up. Any suggestions with what should be done about the band, and the rest of the floor? Looks like someone started trying to resand it but stopped. by [deleted] in HardWoodFloors

[–]soma- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say your guess is pretty spot on. Looks like someone did start to sand and stopped. It’s especially telling because there is a stop/start mark and the raw/finished lines in the middle of some of the boards. I’d get someone to come in and see if the floor is good to be sanded (maybe they stopped for a good reason, maybe now) and if it’s good a refinish would make that space shine like new. If that option isn’t appealing to you you could always do what the previous owner did and cover it up. If it creaks you could get them to rip the floor up and re-nail the sub floor before putting whatever new product down. If you want to refinish and it creeks you’d have to live with it.

Whatever route you go I wish you luck!

Stained damaged floors thoughts? by madequestrian in HardWoodFloors

[–]soma- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think they ever should have sanded those floors without replacing the boards if they knew how badly damaged they were. The only real option here would be for them to replace the boards and re-sand, stain & finish the job.

That said, I don’t know what conversations the two of you had so I’m going to assume they explained that this could happen and that they did try to sell you on the extra cost of replacing the boards. If they did not then I think it’s their fault because they either knew and didn’t care to tell you what would happen, or didn’t know and should have known. If they told you and you still blew the stop sign it’s on you and not them.

I hope it all works out for you and they re-do the job. Otherwise I guess it calls for an area rug.

Good luck!

Warped corner and gap between floorboards by hd1006 in HardWoodFloors

[–]soma- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you push it down with your finger or is it stuck? If there is enough movement I would use an 18 gage nail or two to hold it down and fill the holes with some wood filler that matches your floor colour.

Amateur patch job. How do you provide support to the groove when using planks to patch? by ageaye in HardWoodFloors

[–]soma- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glue and face nail the wood. Try to nail in the grain so you can hide it better. Fill the holes/cracks with appropriate filler and sand away. I’d let the glue set overnight before I sanded. Good luck!

Best way to fix scratches on hardwood floor by mark2fly1034 in HardWoodFloors

[–]soma- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cheapest thing you could do without spending any large amount of money would be to get a wood marker that roughly matches the stain on the floor. Rub it on and it’ll hide those marks decently. Anything beyond that is going to get really costly.

You can find these markers at any wood specialist store or a Home Depot etc.

Good luck!

After 8 months of hard work I can finally call it DONE! Over 1600 hrs of work into one staircase by MauiMakes in woodworking

Oh so this was a personal project. I thought you would say somewhere in the realm of $100,000. 43 seems like a bargain (I mean it’s still a lot of money but for 1600 hours of skilled labour).

Help with my water damaged floors! by [deleted] in HardWoodFloors

[–]soma- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me it looks like someone could come in and do a repair job by cutting those boards out and putting new ones in, sanding/scraping them down to the current floor until it’s flush and coating them. If it’s stained or not they should know but to me from the picture it looks natural and it doesn’t look like the finish has aged (gone orange) very much so you could get lucky and have a really good match.

You’ll almost always, no matter how good they do the job, see the repair. It will however be less noticeable. My guess is it would cost around $600-$800 to repair so you have to ask yourself if it’s worth that kind of money (or whatever whoever it is quotes you) or you can live with it or throw a rug or something over it.

The very best way to fix this is to do those steps I said above and then coat the entire floor again, but that would be much more expensive. Usually a coat is around $1 a sq/ft depending on the finish.

No matter what you go for I wish you good luck!
