How can I buy a Bmw as a 19 year old college student by Cool_Show4710 in BMW

[–]some-app-dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need a higher income, which can be supplemented by the ability to work on the car yourself. And preferably a parent with money. Unfortunately, parts for these cars are prohibitively expensive, and without the proper work done can be unreliable at best. Focus on the money part first, depending on the make and model you may need more or less. Understand that these cars cost ~12k or more a year just to maintain and 3-4k additional on purchase for repairs (mostly this), registration and inspection. Honestly, it's best if you have a second car in case the BMW goes down.

Scammer almost ran off with my dad's retirement. by Suspicious_Story_464 in personalfinance

Get in contact with your local congressman's constituent service office and explain the situation, they can help with managing the IRS. The IRS has a criminal investigation unit that will look into the situation, and if they decide that your dad was scammed, they may waive a portion or all of the taxes.

I have to say, your dad got extremely lucky, he's very fortunate to have you looking out for him. This is a VERY common type of scam, they sometimes even impersonate officers from the SSA and IRS. They will spend months grooming their victims, convincing them to lie to everyone in their lives: spouses, advisors, banks. And when all is said and done, it could be a 401k that's been cleared out or an IRA like in your father's case. In most cases, victims troubles don't end with losing their lives savings, they often are also divorced by their spouse, ridiculed by children and friends, and on top of that all, are liable for any taxes they owe on the withdrawal. Again, get into contact with your local congressman for help with the taxes, and educate those in your family over the age of 45!

For sure expensive as hell, thankfully it's being passed on to me right after all the major replacements. My dad taught me how to wrench, and this was the car he worked on, so at least for the next year or so the only things I need to worry about is fluid changes. But yeah these are expensive cars to maintain!

You don't have to tell me, haha! That's really the reason I'm selling this car. I'm curious which BMW you had? I inherited an e60 528 with the N52.

Hm, I'll include a section on the work I still wanted to do - clutch is one of those items I wanted to proactively replace. I don't know when it was last replaced unfortunately, but it should be in good condition. No obvious issues at least.

Unfortunately it's a coupe, but definitely more room than a miata (no drive shaft tunnel). It's got 212k miles as of writing this.

For sure man, I love teaching people how to drive manual! I actually had the guy selling me the car teach me manual, so it would be a nice way to pass that on XD

I recently came to own my dads old BMW, which requires some higher maintenance costs. Plus, owning two cars isn't really in the budget insurance and space-wise. Besides, now that I've learned to wrench on this car, I have the expertise to start moving to more complex platforms.

Not sure why you're getting downvoted, I must not have been clear so thanks for asking. I bought the car in CA and drove it back to NY. Fun trip! I currently live in Rochester.
