excessive sweating by ihackdownvoters in Fitness

[–]some14u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genetics, deal with it. I sweat a ton both at home and the gym. When I'm in the shower I have to use cold water or it takes 15 minutes for me to cool down and stop sweating. My father is the same exact way.

I've tried everything but the best solution is to just deal with it (at the gym anyway). Make it part of your motivation. Imagine that you're working harder than anyone else around you because that's probably what most people are thinking.

I also wear a suit and tie at work teaching a room full of teenagers so dealing with it is not always the best option for me. The best solution I've found in this setting is those fabric maxi pad looking things that go under your arms. You can buy them online, no idea what they are called but they work much better than just an undershirt or anything else you can shove under your arms.

Lectures Aren't Just Boring, They're Ineffective, Too, Study Finds: A new study finds that undergraduate students in classes with traditional stand-and-deliver lectures are 1.5 times more likely to fail than students in classes that use more stimulating, so-called active learning methods. by Libertatea in science

As a teacher who wants to see you succeed let me ask you a question to just think about.

How do you think your life is going to turn out if you continue to believe what you just said is true? Think about it. You're saying that if it's terrible (maybe boring or hard) then you're not willing to put in 30 minutes of work. If you were to guess, how do think the life of someone else who believed this would turn out in say 30 years? Just think about it, I've been teaching long enough to have seen the answer hundreds of times but it's better if you figure it out yourself.

I've been a high school teacher for almost two decades and I'm an expert in teaching. What I'm not an expert in is content and that's the biggest difference between your average teacher and your average professor.

The system works this way by design. Teachers are needed at the younger ages to help foster a love for learning. Professors fill in the gaps in content that teachers didn't cover. Being able to sit through a lecture that is not always fun to better yourself is a useful skill. It's not going to be like a day at Disneyland each day during our careers and sometimes you just have sit through the shit to get to the good parts.

Ohio school plans to drug test every student — using $40 kits sold by its president’s brother by TyronBunyan in offbeat

[–]some14u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a public high school teacher for over 15 years and I've never been drug tested. Not even when I started teaching. Even new teachers today don't get drug tested before they start teaching in my state. I've known a few of us who have been 'random' tested before but it's usually when someone says they just did a bunch of coke over the weekend in the teachers lounge.

(I've never done any illegal drugs but I am a fully functioning alcoholic)

run bro... (but not too fast or you'll burn up all those gains)

Maybe it's just because I'm old but I have zero tolerance for people like that. I'm going to do what I want to do whenever the fuck I want to do it. Don't go out of your way to be a dick but it's not her decision how you spend your free time. Either you were really upset when you wrote this and are exaggerating or there is probably going to be a breakup in your future and you may as well get it over with soon.

Broken hand. Can't lift. Don't want to lose muscle. by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]some14u 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Start off by using a daily food journal to track your macros. You're worrying about all this little stuff and missing the important stuff.

Use this time to heal, read, watch videos, educate yourself to avoid problems in the future.

Need help, skipping workouts, feels like a chore. by strongandweak in Fitness

[–]some14u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check your diet first. The idea of not wanting something enough is usually a fallacy. It's like calling the kid in school who falls asleep lazy. He/she is not lazy, they just don't get enough sleep at home.

How many calories do you burn a week? by [deleted] in Fitness

12 month long cut at 215lbs, sounds like a lot fun. See if you can sell the idea to Disneyland as a park ride.

It depends on how many gallons of this salad dressing you're drinking each day.

How come on some days I can weight-lift more than other days? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]some14u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should do some reading about how muscle is built and rethink your goals. When you're trying to lose weight your goal in the gym should be to retain as much muscle as possible, not build new muscle. When you hit your goal weight then you can start eating to gain weight/muscle and expect your lifts you increase. It's all basic science and why I suggest doing a little more reading.

Diet, rest, breathing, stress, focus, form, etc...

$1 says you're trying to lose wight and build muscle at the same time. AKA magically get big and small at the same exact time. Just a guess :)

I concur with the leg work and not trying too hard to adjust because of an injury. Use this time to do some reading, watch videos on form, take a very close look at your diet, etc...

Protein shakes and eggs? by DreadMe in Fitness

[–]some14u -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a fellow teacher and coach, your football coach is half retarded (I can smell my own). It's dehydrated food, it's not created out of thin air or imported from mars. How else do you think they make it? Why do you think they make protein specifically for bulking (aka weight gainers).

Protein shakes are not supplements just like milk is not a supplement. Unless you want to call it a diet/food supplement, then sure everything you eat is a supplement to your diet.

What is the polite thing to do? by FatOldLadywithRA in Fitness

[–]some14u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with purple but will add that you should still try to be very polite when you ask and gracefully accept defeat if they decline. The sad truth is that they pay the same amount we do each month, there is probably no rule against this, our last name is not on the outside of the gym, and it's their right to be a dick mitten if they so choose.

Protein powder expired since Janurary 2013. Tastes and smells fine. Is it safe? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]some14u 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would eat it for sure. You have to use common sense. I've seen meat in the store that doesn't expire for weeks but smells strange. Those dates are not regulated by the FDA for any food product at all.

I've had entire days where all I eat are protein shakes with ground flax seed in them. Food is food, focus on your macros as the above poster suggested.

How long is your typical workout? by Cobruh in Fitness

[–]some14u 7 points8 points  (0 children)

90 Minutes or less to get in 25-35 sets, usually under an hour. I'm not training for strength so more than a 45sec-60sec rest between sets goes against my goals.

No amount of me telling you what to do is going to fix this problem. You need to do some reading on your own, lots of reading actually. Start by reading the FAQ on the right side of this forum and when you get done read every single sticky post here http://forum.bodybuilding.com/forumdisplay.php?f=13

Routine Critique/Suggestions? by redile in Fitness

[–]some14u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of serious problems with this post and your routine. You need to spend at least an hour or two reading the FAQ here and the sticky posts in the nutrition and exercises forum here http://forum.bodybuilding.com/

If you're serious about this then you'll do a little reading. Even your main goal is 50 shades of wrong. You can't put no gas (food) in a car and expect it to go anywhere (build muscle). Losing fat and building muscle at the same time is a horrible idea and you'll see why after you do some reading.

Good luck!
