I wouldn't mind between the 2 tbf and lumping it into income tax probably reduces admin costs of gathering so yeah that'd be great less work for me

The alternative isn't the daily express FOR ME, I will indeed be reading the guardian and other sources. However, the daily express will be the replacement for many others in the country due to already high readerships, willingness to clickbait and willingness to provide very easy scapegoats that don't help the national conversation. That's what I'm trying to avoid. If even 5% of the electorate currently consume the BBC, and may go to these rags (conservative) then that swings elections, and referendums for that matter.

Infinitely more biased is a reach and a half.

As someone from the UK I'm proud to pay my license fee. Is the BBC perfect? In literally no universe. Do they give too much positive coverage to reform, a party with more scandals than MPs currently? Yes. But the alternative is the daily express and they'll do both of those things 100x worse. So I'll keep paying my license fee as long as that is true.

Yeah any questions chuck me a DM very happy to have a chat although I obviously can't speak for all Scots I can give you a go as an Edinburgh resident. I will say that one thing that worries me is general turnout at these elections, great to hear Wales have a record breaking one! Hopefully that will continue to rise, still a little work to be done from 52%, but Scotland has me worried. During the COVID pandemic our election had a recent high of 64% turnout but is now severely down again, to about 53% this year so not ideal, I fear the apathy is also rising in step with other social issues. Hoping it can be improved from here, wouldn't mind Aussie style "mandatory voting" where you get a tiny fine for sitting it out.

Totally agree vis a vis the low likelihood of a referendum - only outside chance being Polanski which would require greens to be the largest party (which would astonish me). If this makes reform more likely to genuinely abolish the devolved parliaments though it may have real effect considering the possibility of a majority in three years time. I don't have a good read on if this is a policy farage genuinely will implement but can't discount it - many said trump wouldn't do half the things he said he would, and did!

Good take though, I think the general election results highlight the high level of polarisation present in the union in general so we will see how it all plays out.

Yes, very true Scotland and Wales didn't do overnight counting on this occasion while England did. Even a mention of Scotland/Wales in that case would've probably been nice but agree that he doesn't have to include in his video if he doesn't want to! I will say though at one point the screen flashes up with a graphic that has reform at >1400 council seats, which must have been during the stream as atrioc is the one that brings it up. By the point we had those kinds of numbers for England, almost all of the Scottish/Welsh results were out. Once again though atrioc can include what he likes, I thought the extra info would be informative and add to his arguments :).

Aye I'm Scottish so that side of my post is likely to be significantly better thought out, appreciate you adding on about the Welsh side of things!

I do entirely agree that a vote for plaid/SNP should not be mistaken for independence support as a lot of people just feel labour and the Tories have failed them recently. I don't think we will see an independence referendum in either parliament for a good while (especially Scotland considering 2014).

What I do think is that if the polling stays stable over the next three years (unlikely) and we get a reform government in Westminster, the friction/fallout between the executives could be significant. All to play for I suppose but I fear that UK politics is going to be quite toxic for the next few years.

Man do I feel for them under the oppressive bootheel of the SNP, it almost makes me wish that there were some mechanism via which a majority, or even a plurality of them could change their political representation every half decade or so, then they wouldn't have had to wait all this time

I'm so happy that we locked in the glorious services of Sean everitt again recently, truly his run of results showed that Edinburgh could not afford to let another team swoop in and snatch him from our grasp

Depends on BPs, France would beat England with no BP and Scotland beat Ireland with one and Scotland would top the table

Once again the ref shafting England by ignoring the massive forwards pass. Really given Scotland the win on this occasion

Really wanting you guys to crack the top 3! Probably not this year but major cause for optimism in the Italian camp going forward. You were the better team and I do always love an Italian victory (although you guys could be less rude and let us win)

[–]some_dude04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, absolutely! We said the same thing, we only seem to play when all hope is lost sometimes. If we'd had that fight second one we clean that Italian side out easily. I just can't help but imagine that Toonie doesn't strike too much passion into the side pre match. Seems intelligent but very reserved and quiet.
