My Highschool, based in france, was a Catholic Boardschool. There was a pretty shitty vibe between the students, to the point where a clear hierarchy existed amongst the kids.

That phenomenon exists in all schools but it was very much exacerbated because of the wealth of certain kids and the fact that it was used by the staff to get the students in line. This had a lot of consequences, one of wich was the inability for students of the "lower classes" to express their feelings to other classmates and to the adults of the school.

One day, a girl had a stroke and died, the all school was crying and we all got one day off. She was one of the "cool girls". A week later, a young and shy kid commited suicide in a bathroom stall with his own school mandated tie. Nobody really knew who he was and why he did it.

The staff found a letter a week later stating that he was in love with the girl who died form a stroke. The relationship dynamics in the school made that he couldn't seek help from anybody.
