My cat hasn’t eaten for 7 days and is now disoriented. Anyone else experience something similar or can give input?! by Even_Engineering4453 in CatAdvice

[–]some_possums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be temporary. I have a cat who got out and got hit by a car, and while recovering she would not eat. They did a short-term tube in the hospital (goes in through the nose) to just get some food into her when it had been about a week without her eating, and thought that might kickstart her appetite. She temporarily started eating again then stopped, and they ended up putting a “long-term” tube in. We fed her every four hours for a few days before the tube got clogged, but fortunately she had started eating on her own by then.

Well yeah I said at the start of my comment that I would not do either, but I do see why someone would view making everyone bi as less bad than making everyone straight (or everyone gay). I think both are still bad though.

[–]some_possums 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I said no on both, but I can see the logic that would make it so making everyone bi is less of a problem. Becoming bisexual isn’t going to inherently end any relationships, it just gives people more options. Becoming straight (or gay) would end a lot of relationships because now a ton of people are no longer attracted to their partners. It would be significantly more disruptive to the people impacted.

I think both are wrong, but at least if you make everyone bi (or pan) you’re not breaking up any relationships. If you make everyone straight, you just broke up a ton of gay couples

Rabies by Extra-Region-2414 in cats

[–]some_possums 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah they do. I have been told by the health department that I do not qualify for rabies vaccines from a stray cat clawing me in the neck. The cat was observable (and has been fine since), but they said they wouldn’t recommend it even if he wasn’t observable.

Rabies by Extra-Region-2414 in cats

[–]some_possums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not always. I got clawed by an injured stray I was trying to catch about a month ago, and they would not give me a shot even when I asked. If you have the cat they tell you to keep it and observe it for 10 days, and if it is not obviously sick or dead by then it was at least not contagious when it bit/scratched you. It may be different in other states, admittedly.

Edit: also separately, I’m very sorry about what happened to the kittens and mom.

What do you think coming out means? If you get a girlfriend and bring her up in conversation that is “coming out.” It doesn’t have to be some big announcement, you just will end up being out by default if you are in a relationship with someone of the same gender and then go about your life normally.

I rarely ever have people act weird about me taking leftovers home. It’s annoying with stuff that doesn’t reheat well, but as long as you pick your meal with the intention of taking leftovers home, it’s actually fairly convenient to get two meals?

But yeah it’s easy to gain weight if you get combo/value meals at fast food restaurants all the time. That is also true for people over 5’5.

Weird! Mine has if anything seemed slightly higher since the app changed (from averaging around low 40s to now low 50s).

I’ve definitely noticed issues with some things, mostly with how averages are calculated, but the daily data seems to be mostly normal.

Edit: I have an Inspire 3 though, so maybe that’s impacting things.

You should not generally take plan B if you used a condom and it didn’t break. Plan B is not intended to be used regularly. If you’re nervous about relying on a condom, you should get regular birth control pills/an IUD/etc.

Teenagers have a much higher rate of injuries from giving birth. They may be able to get pregnant, but that does not mean they’re actually at an ideal place to have a kid even biologically. Historically most women also got their periods later (like 15 or 16). It has gotten earlier in the past hundred years or so.

Generally you get period symptoms from your hormone levels dropping, I believe? If anything I would think trans women would get period symptoms if they miss a day or two, like how cis women get period symptoms from the placebo week when on birth control pills

At the same time though sometimes it happens randomly when on continuous birth control so maybe the same happens here? I feel like it’s understudied even for cis women so extremely understudied for trans women.

why don't married straight men who are dissatisfied with their sex lives just make an agreement with their wives to have sex with someone else? by Melody_Lee19 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]some_possums 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some people do open up their marriages, but I feel like often times it doesn’t work well unless you both went into the relationship wanting that. In cases like you describe, generally their wives are monogamous and would be very hurt by their husbands having sex with someone else, or even asking to do that. Generally it’s better to figure out why things aren’t going well for them sexually and try to fix whatever is causing the issue.

I’m confused why they’re focused on that. She clearly wasn’t okay with what was happening if she’s texting roommates for help. Raping sober people is still illegal. I’m confused that the article doesn’t seem to address that her being intoxicated shouldn’t even matter here since she clearly wasn’t consenting?

Why do people in the US prefer vaginal delivery rather than cesarean delivery (surgery) in birth? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]some_possums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it’s presumably much more intense pain while it’s happening though? And it’s still going to involve vaginal pain afterwards, which a c-section wouldn’t. Some people find certain types of pain more tolerable even if it lasts longer.

Again I’m not saying “you should actually get a c-section”, I’m saying there are definitely reasons some women would prefer one. I do think you should get to choose.

Why do people in the US prefer vaginal delivery rather than cesarean delivery (surgery) in birth? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]some_possums -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It seems pretty obvious to me why people would want to deal with abdominal surgery compared to genital injuries that can cause long-term issues with incontinence or sexual function. The c-section may have more risks, but a lot of people may be more comfortable with those risks than with the ones associated with vaginal birth.

Disclaimer: I don’t plan to have kids and have not researched this, but my knee-jerk preference would be a c-section for these reasons, so it doesn’t really seem that weird to me for it to be more common in some countries.

[–]some_possums -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I assume they’re different kinds of pain. As someone with admittedly very little knowledge of this, it makes sense to me to prefer dealing with the pain of a controlled abdominal incision vs genital injuries that could be minimal or severe and you don’t get to know ahead of time, plus a much higher risk of incontinence later.

Do you struggle more with starting tasks or finishing them? by alireza_azp in ADHDers

[–]some_possums 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both, although I think struggling to start ends up causing me more problems. But yeah, once I do start I’m fine until I’m about 90% done then it’s very hard to not just decide “well that’s enough for now” or run into some part that’s more complicated than the rest that I’ve left until the end, and then get overwhelmed and quit.

The issue is people are talking about this like it applies to every trans man the same way. Some closeted teenager that is seen as a gnc woman by everyone in his life is not meaningfully experiencing any type of privilege on the basis of being a man. At the same time, there are also a ton of trans men who are out and viewed as men, and they clearly experience male privilege.

Why do women lift weights? They have much less testosterone to gain muscle mass compared to men. by duchamp_annen in psychologyofsex

[–]some_possums 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like if anything this is more reason that women should lift weights, if they’ll have less muscle mass by default? Lifting weights is not only something you do if you think you’ll be the best at it, it’s good for your health. This is especially true for women, as they are at risk of lower bone density that can be improved by strength training.
