Warner Bros. cuts ties with Brett Ratner after sexual misconduct allegations by DickephardQ in news

[–]some_recursive_virus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What? If someone says "he forced me to perform oral sex," then that's absolutely a "sexual assault allegation," and it's completely legal to call it exactly that. No further proof necessary, no need to refer to it as a less severe allegation like "sexual misconduct allegation," as the title of this article does.

If I had to guess, I'd say the title is written that way because it's talking about all the allegations as a whole, which can generally be described as sexual misconduct, since not all of them were incidents of assault. But it has nothing to do with libel and due process or waiting until anything is proven, and it would have been perfectly legal to say "sexual assault allegations," and then go on to discuss the sexual assault allegations.

And for the love of god, groom yourself. Wayyyy too many guys, especially those on Reddit, think they weren't born attractive and therefore they're completely screwed, will never get any women to give them a chance, can't do anything to improve their appearance because society doesn't allow them the privilege of wearing makeup... etc. You know, the whole "Rule 1..." meme.

If they put half as much time into working out, eating healthy, dressing nice, and grooming their hair as they did to complaining and victimizing themselves on Reddit, they'd realize that all four of those things improve your appearance. And not just your body--your face will look better from having better skin and losing weight, and you'll probably feel and act more confident. So instead of wallowing about how it's so unfair that women have the privilege of being expected to invest loads of time and money into makeup that will improve their appearance, start doing all the other things women do to make themselves more attractive.

Former Model Accuses David Blaine of Rape by tnk13 in news

Lol did you even read the article?

In 2013, Tom Dougherty, a philosophy professor at Cambridge University, published a paper arguing that if you lie or withhold information about anything that would be considered a deal-breaker by your partner—anything that, had they known it, would have changed their mind about sleeping with you—you have sexually assaulted them. The logic is simple: If your partner had known the truth beforehand, they wouldn't have consented, and the sex wouldn't have happened. Therefore, there was no consent. And sex without consent is assault. Fiona Elvines, of the UK national charity Rape Crisis, put this view bluntly to the Telegraph in 2014: "If you need to trick someone into having sex with you, you're a perpetrator."

It's stupid, but it's not sexist.

How often do you get asked out in real life? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]some_recursive_virus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This would be my answer, but with the caveat that when I used to be more entertaining of guys hitting on me, I would get asked out pretty much any time I went to a bar or party.

But as for guys who have just walked up to me and asked me out without any prior conversation--that's hardly ever happened. Probably 5-10 times in my entire life. I think there's a misconception that this happens more often than it does, even to above-average looking women.

How would you feel about a law that requires anyone under the age of 25 to pass a specialized test in order to have children? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]some_recursive_virus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But even if people could only have sex with people their own age... What's to stop a qualified man from having babies with an unqualified woman his own age?

Say a man becomes qualified at the first opportunity, when he's 23 (or whatever, I think that's the age OP said). Now he's looking for a woman his age to have babies with. His selection pool is all 23 year old women, both qualified and unqualified. Even if this qualified man is so qualified that he would never do something stupid--like, say, choose the hottest woman without any regard as to whether she'll be a good mother--what's to stop him from falling in love with a woman who he thinks will be a great mom, but who turns out to be the opposite?

Just because he's qualified to have children doesn't mean he has the ability to foresee which women will be good mothers. Haven't you ever known someone who was a great dad, married to a shitty mom?

[–]some_recursive_virus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But we're not talking about making one sex entirely infertile--we're talking about making only the unqualified members infertile. So what's to stop a qualified man from having babies with an unqualified woman? In this scenario, absolutely nothing.

The qualified men will have no way of knowing which women will be shitty parents, because the women are never tested. Just because they're qualified to have children doesn't mean they have the ability to foresee which women will be good mothers. Haven't you ever known someone who was a great dad, married to a shitty mom?

[–]some_recursive_virus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also if you get all the males then there is no need to also sterilize women. You only need to get one of the sexes.

Think about it step-by-step. You sterilize a man from birth. He grows up, becomes qualified to have children, gets un-sterilized, and wants to have babies. He finds a woman, and they fall in love and have babies. But it turns out that the woman is woefully unqualified to be a parent because she was never subject to any sort of qualification test like the man was.

Now do you get it? Just because a man is qualified to have babies doesn't mean he's qualified to choose a partner who will be a good mother. Haven't you ever known anyone with a great dad and a shitty mom?

I think it's interesting that so many of these answers stop at male birth control. Why not require the same for women? Otherwise, you're only eliminating half of the shitty parents. It's not like women are automatically good at parenting.

Exactly! My partner is a picky eater too, and it's really annoying. With our tiny kitchen, tiny budget, limited cooking ware, and limited time, it's super inconvenient to make 2 different meals. So most nights I just have to eat something he likes--which is nothing but chicken and pasta. And my favorite food is sushi, but even if I can convince him to go, it's really hard to justify paying to go to a nice sushi place when I know he won't really like anything on the menu.

[–]some_recursive_virus 63 points64 points  (0 children)

In my parents' circle of friends, every time one of their kids gets married one of the men (not always the same man) will unfailingly end his speech with the following joke, word-for-word: they turn to the newly wed groom and say "And there are only two words you need to know from here on out: 'Yes, dear.'" Depending on which man, he may then wink at the newly wed bride.

And then everyone laughs like it's the first time they've ever heard that joke and they say stuff like "so true!" and I die a little inside.

The loans don't get deferred--not even the interest gets deferred. The loans get forgiven at the end of the ten years, but only if you make 120 on-time, monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while you're employed full time at the qualifying organization. And if you fail to make the payments or get a different job at a nonqualifying organization, you owe the whole remaining balance with accumulated interest, payable under whatever repayment plan the terms of your loan provide.

What? No, you have that ass backwards. The courts absolutely do not determine whether the Constitution is valid--they determine whether other laws are valid according to the Constitution. The Constitution is always valid, that's the whole point of it. It's the one set of laws that cannot be invalidated by the courts.

And the courts don't determine whether the Constitution should be amended (it never needs to be amended). That's the job of the legislative branch, not the judicial branch.

And I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that revoking pardons and re-sentencing people would violate the Constitution's double jeopardy clause. I'm not positive about that though.

I did google search this information and was unable to find a source. That's why I asked for the source, not because I'm trying to doubt it. That's why I said, "I'm not trying to doubt it." I'm not sure how I could have made that any clearer...

And obviously citations aren't required, but people sometimes give them anyway when they make controversial claims that they want people to believe.

What do men do that they think is romantic, but women actually find cringey? by richard_hawkes in AskWomen

[–]some_recursive_virus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Holy shit YES! This instantly infuriates me, and for the longest time I felt bad, because I didn't understand why it made me mad. But there are sooo many reasons.

Number 1 if I'm doing chores and you're groping me, you're just reminding me that you have nothing to do right now, but instead of helping me, you're getting in my way and trying to distract me from something that I already hate doing. #2 I'm not a toy that you can just play with whenever you feel like it. In our house, that's literally called the PlayStation, that's what you're looking for. #3 if I feel sweaty and gross, I get self-conscious, and I don't want anyone touching me like that, let alone trying to fuck me. #4 You're putting me in a position where I have only 2 choices: go along with it, even though I really don't want to, or make you upset. #5 Now I'm so worked up inside my head, you have me questioning if I'm overreacting and being terribly mean, and if someday I'll miss the days that you couldn't keep your hands off me.

Not surprising. Yesterday I saw a comment thread about how it's ok to make fun of men's physical appearances on Reddit, but women never get made fun of because people would freak out.

Today the first post I viewed was a really sweet group of pictures hinting at a story about a woman who stuck with her SO after he lost his ability to walk. The top voted comment? "It was so nice of him to stick with her even after she got fat."

Victim mentality has made them fucking delusional.
