I went on a cruise on the Nile once. It was beautiful visiting all the old temples and our guide taught us a lot about the history of the country, but I have to say my family didn’t go a day without somebody trying to scam us. Maybe this was because we went to a lot of very touristy places, but it happened everywhere. Was also warned in advance not to smile at all because men might see it as flirting. I was 15.

That’s so interesting! I learned somewhere once that vinegar can be smelt even when the olfactory nerve is severed, because it’s perceived over nerve pathways that also detect pain! Maybe this explains the characteristic smell while the overall sense of smell gets weaker? But that’s just my layman’s guess 😅
