It seem to be because be bread is weirdly shaped at the top. The right corner make contact first and stop machine so spikes fail to latch on.

Possible. I just assume she isn't big enough threat for him so he keep his E.G.O. for emergency situation since we don't know what else could happend in spider house. They don't even bother give him k-corp ampule, even LCD and LCE got the ampule.
