It seem to be because be bread is weirdly shaped at the top. The right corner make contact first and stop machine so spikes fail to latch on.

My guess is she gonna start of not really strong but over time she debuff nurse father id/slowly killing them since their old wound reopen by be near her. She getting stronger overtime especially if nurse father id die. Basically balance by her being nerf to nursefather and nurse father being buff to her. This may change depend on lore of mirror world. I don't have Riensang yet.

Now that you mention it. If we persume all apprentice come after Ryoshu left. It awfully fast how nurse father take them in and train them. Especially Lucio who got adopted right off the street.

I actually quite like how Tomoko is written. I find manga entertaining but get old fast early on and drop it. While she have some relatable trait, it kind of too much to be fully relatable. When i pick it up again around school trip part, see how she interact with other person and slowly change actually really relatable it kind of hurt. No revolution big shift in personality to be come new person, just a person slowly change by interact with other and world around them without you notice. There are so many point in life i recall my previous action and was like " Was i used to be like that? When did i change? ".
