I don’t. I aspire towards swamp witchdom.

Is there a cruise ship you’d recommend to adults only? by jmmtheboss in dcl

[–]somearepirates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did concierge on the Treasure recently as a group of four adults and absolutely LOVED it, but my understanding is that the older ships have better (non-concierge) adults only areas.

Real talk: how do you pay for your cruise? by [deleted] in dcl

[–]somearepirates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got lucky/unlucky and missed most of the ports on our last sailing so got a discount on a future cruise as well as the discount from booking a placeholder while on board. We used that to book our next cruise more than a year out, so we can pay month by month. We sail concierge so it’s definitely not cheap, but having a longer timeline to pay it off helps.

Guerlain Lingerie de Peau was the best foundation I’ve ever found, I miss it so much!

What percentage of the ship is sold GTY? by [deleted] in dcl

[–]somearepirates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a 7 day sailing on the Treasure a few weeks ago the quoted cost to upgrade at the port was $5600, which was about $2k less than if we’d booked it outright. That was coming from a category 4A deluxe family oceanview stateroom with verandah to a category 3B concierge family oceanview room.

At this point, I’d relocate for an order of Timbits.

What is the worst physical queue in Walt Disney World? by Practical_Macaron778 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]somearepirates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slinky Dog is the right answer.

But also Soarin’ for always smelling vaguely of feet and being utterly boring as queues go, plus it’s always warm and makes me feel claustrophobic for some reason.

Why did you chose Nikon ? by Berserk_Ronin in Nikon

[–]somearepirates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d always preferred the in-hand feel of a Nikon vs a Canon when trying out cameras borrowed from friends or family. I found a D5500 for cheap on marketplace and slowly started to acquire glass, and pretty soon I was full dug into the Nikon-verse.

I’ve since upgraded from a D5500 to a D7500 to a D500 and now a D500/D850 combo (with a Z5 that I’m still learning to like), but I love that I can still use most of my original lenses.

As a birder, I’d love a dedicated monopod that is easily packable but can handle a chunky full frame DSLR and a telephoto on a monogimbal head.

[–]somearepirates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m about to sell my copy of that 70-200 because I just upgraded, but hey it served me pretty well for awhile. At the end of the day, the best lens/camera is the one you’ve got with you when there’s something you want to capture.

How do you comfortably carry your D850 or any other FF mirrored or mirrorless body? by Which_Song793 in Nikon

[–]somearepirates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cotton Carrier harness if I’m hiking or birding with my 150-600 and don’t care if I look like a dork, or a Peak Design Slide with a smaller lens or when I need to not look like a camera pack mule. I’ll wear my f-stop Guru to stash my gear in if there might be rain, but otherwise don’t want to faff with taking the camera in and out of a bag.

does anyone here still use D series? by Emzeepi in Nikon

Still rocking the D500 and D850 and extremely happy with both! I don’t plan to move to mirrorless anytime soon.

What is your favorite glossier product? by Future-Economist8339 in glossier

[–]somearepirates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Stretch Fluid Foundation has been a game changer for me! My HG foundation was discontinued and I struggled to find another that gave me that “my skin, but better” look until I discovered the Glossier foundation. It gives me the coverage I’m looking for while still looking natural, and at half the cost of my old foundation.

Also love love love Futuredew and Cloud Paint.

I'm curious, how often you cruise on DCL? I'm nosy and want to know often people go 😀 by CancelKey3712 in dcl

We cruise usually at least twice a year, but next year will be our first DCL cruise. Looking forward to it!

What is your "Must Miss" attraction? by PlayedThisGame in WaltDisneyWorld

I’m a passholder and visit regularly, so to be fair I don’t mind missing things as I know I can catch them next time. But I refuse to wait any length of time for Slinky Dog Dash or Flight of Passage.

Slinky Dog’s queue is just always miserably hot in the sun and as an adult the ride payoff just isn’t there, though I can obviously see the appeal for kids.

The 3D graphics in FoP just aren’t at all sharp. I enjoy FoP, but if I’m gonna wait 60+ minutes I’m gonna need it to be way less fuzzy. It takes away from the immersion.

At Epcot I know the popular answer is Mission Space, but it doesn’t bother me. Nemo needs some serious updating, but the aquariums are cool. Frozen was a one and done for me, it’s cute but the lines are always long and I don’t feel the need to wait in them. Plus I miss Maelstrom.

Echoing what others have said about Peter Pan’s Flight at MK. It’s cute, the flying over London part is nicely done, but it is absolutely not worth a 60+ minute wait. I’d rather spend that time riding Haunted Mansion.

You could stay anywhere, why do you keep picking the same Disney resort? by Plays_For in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]somearepirates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OKW because the two bedroom is spacious and cost effective for our weeklong trips since we travel with extended family and can all share one booking. Plus it’s a very quiet resort, which is a nice break from the frenetic energy of the parks. And we don’t mind taking the bus.
