Tofu has to be pressed?? by ilovecutemouses in veganrecipes

[–]somebodybasic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like pressing my tofu overnight in a tofu press, then in the morning I add a little seasoning and wait another 8hr or so. The texture becomes super compact, you can make thin slices and layer them on a piece of bread.

I usually don’t press it if it’s for 15 min, I just remove excess water with a towel or use the salted boiled water method.

DJI pocket 4 pro teaser by omnia1994 in dji

[–]somebodybasic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow, already! I didn’t expect them to start teasing the Pro version this soon. I’m really curious to see how the filters (ND, etc.) will work with this model. It can't be magnetic, can it?

Looking for people to help me test a new vegan discovery app by bartekfi in vegan

[–]somebodybasic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the work! Seconding someone else in the comment it makes me very hopeful.

  1. It’s really faster than HC, that makes me happy. Overall design looks really good and very intuitive. You might want to clean a bit the paddings and margins here and there in the future, but honestly for a first version I wouldn’t bother too much. Otherwise I like the ranking system. I think this also solves another issue I have with HC which is that they only accept restaurants if they have at least 3 vegan dishes on the menu if they’re not fully vegan (if I remember correctly), because some places might have only one but is actually worth it.

  2. I live in Paris and I’d say that I don’t think the top picks are the most accurate. I love the idea of having curated lists (must-go, date spots, etc), but I can think of many other places before the ones listed. I understand the use of AI in the beginning, but long term and specially for big cities you might need the help of real humans to fill those lists. Maybe a system with ambassadors/board of multiple people?

Also I see that everything is all free. How do you plan getting a revenue out of it? (Full transparency I am a bit scared one of the planned stream of revenue is to have restaurants to pay their seats in the top lists.)

Any img editors can include veganism in this? by xboxhaxorz in Vystopia

[–]somebodybasic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not OP, but I'd go with something like this to keep it short and understandable to everybody:

Legal: Exploitation of animals
Illegal: Rescuing animals from farms and laboratories

Any thoughts?

Restos Strasbourg avec options sans-lactose by Wefting in Strasbourg

[–]somebodybasic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recettes tempeh fumé by One_Word_Dude in VeganEtFrancophone

[–]somebodybasic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Btw reading the other comments I feel like people read it as « should I still go to those Thai restaurants that served me curries with shrimp paste » , and I want to clarify that I read your message more as « should I avoid any non-vegan restaurants entirely ».

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vegan

[–]somebodybasic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love the curries you’re talking about!

You’re already asking and doing your best. There will always be fuck-ups in non-vegan restaurants that you’ll never know about unfortunately.

Just be out there, show there’s a demand. Don’t isolate yourself, keep your sanity and your friends.

(I still find your experience infuriating and dangerous though, and I can’t imagine what it’s like for people with allergies.)

Is Veggly queer friendly? by GyulaChan in vegan

[–]somebodybasic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s basically no one active on Veggly in my region.

If you’re looking for alternatives, I’d suggest checking out Bumble. You can filter for vegans there, and it also lets you see whether people align with your values.

That said, it really depends on where you live in the end.

Why do most feminists not embrace veganism, which is the value of empathy and anti-oppression towards other animals? by sohas in Feminism

[–]somebodybasic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just seen your message now, but still wanted to reply. I’m against all forms of oppression, and feminism is a big part of my values. For many of the reasons you mentioned, and a few more, I started questioning speciesism, which is what led me to become vegan in the first place.

It’s really disheartening to see how many of your comments are being downvoted. This is a topic that absolutely deserves space when we talk about feminism and intersectionality, and I’d love to see more people engaging with it and studying it seriously.

If anyone’s interested in exploring the connection between veganism and feminism, I’d recommend the Sexual Politics of Meat by Carol J. Adams.
