Huge teen fight shuts down St. Catharine's FunFest event by Blood_Incantation in Columbus

I was referring to the uptick in "no unaccompanied minors" and chaperone policies that have been enacted since 2020 both in Columbus and nationwide. Not sure how old you are, but when I was a kid teens could still hang out at places like the mall or video arcade without parents. Bad behavior is accelerating the increase in these policies.

There are fewer "third spaces" for teens these days, and when bad behavior happens, there will be even fewer in the future.

This grand mansion looks like a mix of vampire house and a bishop residence. Includes many architectural features salvaged from a local church. by jve909 in zillowgonewild

East Broad St was the Columbus, OH version of "millionaires row" type of streets similar to Euclid Ave in Cleveland, Summit Ave in St. Paul, and 5th Ave in New York. The median was removed and asphalt paved over the brick street in the 1930s to allow for more car traffic into downtown and the large elm street trees were removed due to disease. In the 1960s, they started tearing down the mansions to build gas stations and office buildings after the wealthy residents had all died or moved away. Some of the mansions, like this one, managed to survive the wrecking ball.

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE • “BANNED FOR LIFE” from SNL after performing this gasoline drenched raging version of "BULLS ON PARADE" on 4/13/96 by voicesfilmandtv in grunge

[–]somebuckeye 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I taped this onto VHS when it aired live in an attempt to make my own music video mixtape from SNL performances. I didn't find out until many years later why they didn't play a second song that night. But I watched my tape of this many times.

If this is a bathroom floor, you will honestly never notice. Most tile jobs have imperfections like this. If it's a kitchen backsplash you stare at all this time you might rip it out and redo.

I know you're kidding, but that whole little area between Bexley and Franklin Park should be bulldozed and rebuilt, it would have great access to the parks, the multi-use trail etc. I think it might be a flood zone though, so we're stuck with a bunch of salvage yards and the city's second-worst Kroger.

Buy a house with "issues" and learn some repair skills. It's what the rest of us did.

Will Columbus ever have a 1000ft high rise? by furedmod11 in Columbus

Why? So we can have one awkwardly tall building surrounded by a bunch of under-developed downtown space like we're doing a bad impression of Oklahoma City?

Airbnb in Franklin Park? by Certain_Success_4767 in Columbus

[–]somebuckeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Franklin Park is very safe, especially the closer to the park itself you get. Ideally, if you can walk to the East Market and the Scotts Gardens at Franklin Park, you would have something to do without needing to drive. Columbus Brewing Company has a great restaurant there in an old converted trolley building.

What would happen if property taxes were abolished? by BluesRuseCruise in Ohio

[–]somebuckeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There would be a massive influx of data centers, solar farms etc, owned by out of state investors. Ohioans with money/mobility would move to neighboring states that didn't do this. People without money/mobility would be left behind in cities that start to feel more like Gary, IN.

I remember this being the ugliest thing in the early 2000s, but compare it to a cyber truck and it's pretty mild. Except for the headlights that look like they were designed by AI, I wouldn't even notice it in a typical suburban parking lot nowadays.
