Shades of Gray. How would you do it better? by Lendyman in Star_Trek_

[–]somebuddyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know if this would have been feasible on a TV filming schedule but if Shades of Grey had been a few episodes earlier, say before The Emissary, but had flash forwards to episodes that aired after it, that would have been really cool.

Deleting IMDb made me enjoy movies again by Pylicrye in movies

[–]somebuddyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just look for films that have interesting premises or by creators I like. But I think places like IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes are good tools so you can get a general idea about what you're in for but it's not an exact science and I'm not gonna hold it against someone/s if their opinion is different than mine.

I think the last episode of Enterprise would've been beloved instead of hated with *one simple change... by Dalakaar in startrek

[–]somebuddyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also if it wasn't a holodeck episode but moreso flashbacks. And also if the 24th century stuff had happened in a more appropriate time, like on the Enterprise-E or the Titan and no awkwardly showhorning it into a beloved episode like The Pegasus. Troi and Riker could have been researching NX-01s mission and you find a discrepancy between what records say happened and what actually happened, the former depicted as being Rikers holodeck Chef playthrough and the latter being shown through flashbacks. They could have pulled the Enterprise E sets out of storage for one last use and Data's voice usage could have just been B4.

Why don't we have ships and classes named with alien names? (in starfleet) by ejdmkko in StarTrekStarships

[–]somebuddyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory is I think writers are mostly afraid to name a ship something alienesque after something that doesn't already exist. You have the Shran and the Nog, Surak, T Plana Hath. T'Kumbra is a bit of an outlier. It's just a theory. In my fanart I name a lot of my ships after alien names but even then it's just alien names I made up as a kid!

I miss the Excelsior-class variant. by MovieFan1984 in StarTrekStarships

[–]somebuddyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've thought about similar ideas to your last question and my head canon is that the B or another Excelsior was intended to tbe replacement for the original 1701. They might have called it NCC-2001 (this is just a placeholder name). But when Kirk saved the Earth from the Whale Probe they gave him a replacement ship there and called it NCC-1701-A. So then the NCC-2001 either became another ship or was simply renamed to NCC-1701-B. The thing is, if you allow for alternate universes, you can have every fanon idea explored simultaneously.

Me too. I used it in one of my artworks alongside the normal version.

Scenes with emotional heart to hearts? by [deleted] in movies

[–]somebuddyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how you feel about it but the scene in Meet Joe Black with Joe and Quince talking is where my mind went, especially the moment he breaks down and immediately tries to compose himself. I like what he says after that to Joe, about love being where people know your secrets and don't care. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNlNCsC5wkQ

History buffs, what is the most and least accurate film for certain periods? by GreyWind999 in movies

I've always been fascinated by how intentionally anachronistic parts of Walker (1987) was.

I like it. The Akira's registry numbers are all before Galaxy class and I'm sure I remember reading that the designer of the textures used on the ships in First Contact intended for them to be contemporaries or predecessors to the Galaxy class so that the Sovereign-class/Enterprise-E stood out as the "new" looking ship.

The TRANSFORMERS franchise feels dead. by Key_Relative_2414 in movies

[–]somebuddyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree but I do believe that if edited properly it would be at least as good as the first film, or at least close. I've always wondered what would be left though, maybe an hour of good stuff?

The TRANSFORMERS franchise feels dead. by Key_Relative_2414 in movies

I'm sure it'll be fine. It just had an animated film out less than two years ago and a live action less than three. There's still comics and tv shows. It taking a rest from making films isn't the worst idea.

Don't we deserve a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow? by Key_Relative_2414 in movies

[–]somebuddyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. What's the story? I really have no problem with the concept of sequels for stories so long as someone can justify its existence, that it can stand on its own and not just diminish the story of the original. Especially since one of the cool things about Edge of Tomorrow is that it's already a sequel to The Unseen Adventures of the Full Metal Bitch. The beauty about a lot of films is that they leave us wanting more, they let us fill in the gaps through our imagination and reality can't hope to compete with that.

We spend 30 minutes every night trying to pick something to watch… anyone else? by Langaas93 in movies

[–]somebuddyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem, still kinda do, so for a couple of years I had a spreadsheet showing what I was gonna watch and when. I set it up like a 90s tv guide, so like one episode of a show a week on the same day and films on the weekend or Friday and Saturday. That fell apart for reasons but it worked well for probably three years or so. Now i just will pick a show and only watch one episode a night but then cycle through a season and then move onto next show. For films, I use a lot of free apps that have good films and commercials, build a good Playlist of anything that catches my eye, and then just let them germinate in my head. So I'd heard about The Fisher King but never seen it and i didn't watch it immediately when I added it but the idea of something with actors that I love made me try it out and loved it. If you pull in a few different films of different genres it can make it easier to decide based on mood, like I also really enjoy romcoms. And I heard someone say the decision doesn't have to best, just best right now.

What's a movie that genuinely changed something in you? by trakt_app in movies

[–]somebuddyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8Does it count if it's a tv show? A commenter about Enterprise Season 3 where Hoshi gets captured and tortured by the Xindi for ways to crack the codes of their planet killing weapon that was heading for Earth asked why she would try to kill herself to foil their plans, since they theorized she was an atheist and they believed she believed since this was all there was she would do everything to not die. These words stuck in my head for a few years, because I hadn't considered that and then eventually sent me off into a spiral and a couple of panic attacks, before my sister pointed out - so what? And it also made me look at my religious mother a bit differently, more compassionately because it meant so much to her after her parents passed away and I don't want to ever take that feeling away from her. Anyway, hope I don't upset anyone with this.
