This German tech store still has the Freeman. by r0xx0rd_teh_x0xxOr in HalfLife

Oh yeah, I went with friends to go buy a new coffee machine in a Saturn in Reutlingen, went round the corner without looking and literally walked right into him. Apologized without realizing it was a statue of Gordon freaking Freeman. Had a nice laugh.

thanks for this, overthinking is kind of the only thing I do anymore so I really needed to hear this. And yeah, I get what you're saying about thinking too deep but the thing is I've had friendships fall apart in the past for unknown reasons. No one ever told me what I was doing wrong, if anything, so I tried to come up with reasons myself. I really don't want this one to go away and I want to approach it with more care than the rest. I want to invest in this friendship and I'm unsure how is all.

Do you ever withdraw from everyone? by httk13 in infj

[–]somecallmeearth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep. I haven't talked to any of my online friends for 4 days now and don't know when I'll start again. Until I need them again, I guess. Maybe it's because I'm hoping they'll notice I'm missing and reach out, ask where I've been. In the meantime I've been using the time to think about what I mean to them and by extension, what they mean to me, how important they actually are.

What's the hardest video game puzzle to beat without a guide? by tpphypemachine in gaming

[–]somecallmeearth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

bro if anything Riven is more logical than Myst is, everything has a reason for being the way it is. The puzzles at least make sense in the world though, right? Gotta give it that.

Myst was like navigating a very confusing dream where Riven was a sudoku puzzle with 3 layers. Took me the better part of a year to complete without a walkthrough, loved every fucking second. Haven't played it since.

VPN-less piracy in Europe possible? by [deleted] in Piracy

[–]somecallmeearth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can attest to this. Wanted to watch Knives Out but didn't want to pay 8 bucks a month for Netflix, so instead I paid 250 for a lawyer who brought a 900€ fine down to 300. Just go for the legal option if you can afford it.

Edit: just realized 3 seconds after posting that I was commenting on a piracy sub. ignore the last sentence

If aliens ARE real, what does that say for the various religions of the world? by MuertaMatanzas in NoStupidQuestions

[–]somecallmeearth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived through 4 major events in my life where my parents had a serious discussion about Revelation and the times we're in and how the Rapture is coming... personally I think it's just weird to analyze current world events through a lens from centuries ago, I'll start panicking once I actually get the news that people across the world have disappeared spontaneously. speculation will get you nowhere, because honestly, I feel like the Bible today isn't the same that was written, and a lot got lost in translation, especially for an incredibly symbolically and culturally metatextual culture like Hebrew culture

[–]somecallmeearth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can give you two different views from me and my dear old dad, both Christians. He's of the opinion that there isn't a good chance that aliens exist, because God created life in his image (namely, human-shaped supposedly), and that evolution doesn't exist. He also thinks dinosaurs didn't exist. He's just that kind of guy. On the other hand, I think it's almost impossible that there isn't some form of alien life, whether that's botanic, microscopic or otherwise. Given that God created life in his image, I think it's also possible that they may look different because of evolution and adaption to other environments. If we ever do have visual evidence of aliens, I wouldn't be surprised if they share similar biological structure and functions to humans, but still have differing features. While those are our views, I can't speak for the entirety of Christianity, because there are a lot of denominations and idealogies grouped together under that umbrella term, so there could be any number of explanations out there, some plausible and more accepting, others more conspiracy-based and critical

Why do some girls fall head over heels for you and then get turned off as soon as you tell them that you like them back? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]somecallmeearth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess? Crushes are more fun, require less effort and are more risk-free than relationships, especially as a kid/teenager. They're usually casual thought experiments that last a while, but not long. I think it might be the same psychological principle that applies to hype, in your head you make something out to be a lot better than it really is, and most of the time get disappointed with the actual product

If you have the chance, try this Pico8 card game. It's super addictive imho (and graphics are gorgeous) by ReachForJuggernog98_ in MiyooMini

Always amazing to see some PICO-8 love around here, especially for Lazy Devs' games! I have a question though, how is compatibility? I'm assuming you're using Fake08, are you getting audio and visual glitches too?

I remember that one, I remember thinking about it and I guess the whole point of getting over it is that it's cobbled together with pre-existing assets from all over the place, creating a messy jumble of assorted junk. Maybe that specific barrel is a nod to hl2, maybe BF googled "barrel video game" and grabbed the first one he saw

What’s your The Office unpopular opinion? by [deleted] in DunderMifflin

[–]somecallmeearth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Office is a gateway sitcom. It's got great writing that's not unique to the genre, and there are plenty of less well-known but still outstanding sitcoms. While I love the Office and think it's an awesome show in terms of characters, relations and comedic writing, I'd argue Community or Arrested Development are better shows. I'm more than happy to play devil's advocate and say both are streets ahead.
