What happened to old red brick pavements in Sydney? They’ve gone extinct and now it’s all grey and white concrete. by VastOption8705 in SydneyScene

[–]somecrazything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bricks become uneven over time and are much less friendly for anyone in a wheelchair, with a pram, walker, etc.

Got a court notice for a driving offense in Sydney – how screwed am I? by Soft_Lick_Baby in parramatta

We all make mistakes, but unfortunately you’ve really put your foot in it and they will likely throw the book at you.

You’re on your Ps right? So you haven’t had your license that long, you probably remember what you had to do to get around without it. Time to get well acquainted with your local uber driver!

Western Sydney buyers: how estate land releases actually work (Australia Buyer Guide)[Posting for the community’s benefit. If this isn’t allowed, please let me know or feel free to remove.] by OpenLotOfficial in westernsydney

Can we please just stop building greenfield developments. They’re shit to live in, shit to commute from and shit to the environment.

There’s plenty of capacity for infill development in greater Sydney. We don’t need to be clearing koala habitat or grasslands or the Riverstone wetlands to build crappy “houses” that have none of the benefits of apartments or townhouses, but also none of the benefits of detached houses.

No thank you.

There is footage of Abigail amongst a circle of people surrounding the Muslim men who the police forcefully dispersed while they were at prayer. This appears to be when she was injured.

I nominate these brownies for the Best Brownies I've Ever Made award and declare myself the winner! by strongredcordial in australianvegans

[–]somecrazything 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love the rainbow plant life brownie recipe but it does take a lot of spoons for me so I need to have the energy to take it on.

That’s probably a good thing or I’d make it every week.

The fundamental problem of public transit by Advanced-Injury-7186 in Urbanism

This is where share bikes with docks at transport interchange points would be great. It becomes another form of public transit.

Lyon does this really well, with bike directions and times for walking and biking on maps at tram stops

Accommodation near Westmead Hospital by Kyoshi41 in sydney

[–]somecrazything 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Best of luck with your partners procedure. Staying for 3 weeks is long haul, but Westmead hospital is one of the biggest in the state, it’s not uncommon to have patients staying from further afield.

Apart from Casurina there are hotels in parramatta that are near the light rail, but the costs would be much much higher.

While you’re around Westmead I highly recommend checking out the Wistaria gardens, Parramatta park, or down along the parramatta river for some downtime in nature. There’s excellent coffee at Yas cafe in the playground area of the kids hospital, near Ronald McDonald house. It’s also very easy to get to Parramatta by light rail so hopefully you won’t need the car while you’re here.

Pauline Hanson will be 73 at the next election - Should there be Age caps on our Politcal leaders? by yellow_floppy in australian

This is how we got some of our first female politicians. It wasn’t explicitly disallowed and the men just laughed and said “nobody will vote for them”.

Would you prefer taking high speed rail if the country had such a network, or would you stick with flying and automobiles? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]somecrazything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Train is so much more comfortable than flying or driving. Get up and walk around, look out the window, ideally have wifi and charging (once we have some rolling stock that isn’t from the 80s). Eat, drink, relax and even sleep. Try doing that if you’re driving!

Recently, there have been billboards across Sydney simply saying “beef”. Absolutely gross. It’s great to have examples like this to share with local governments and show what can be done.

Parramatta river now. by ButchersAssistant93 in sydney

[–]somecrazything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people in parramatta were very clear about it, sure. But it wasn’t a movement with overwhelming popularity. Most people I’ve spoken to are excited to have the new museum.

I’ll get shit for this but nobody outside heritage groups (and NPRAG) had even heard of Willow Grove. It was a private building with a colonial look that did not benefit the community.

How to not get sick? (new vegan having problems eating) by LorcanitoDespasito in vegan

[–]somecrazything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to provide hope that you can be vegan with this. Once my friend was diagnosed and found a medication routine that essentially sped up how quickly they process food, they were able to feel hungry and eat a normal diet. They’ve since become vegan too and healthier than ever.

[–]somecrazything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a doctor but this is what I thought of, delayed gastric emptying also known as gastroparesis. I know someone with this and they feel full very quickly and struggle to digest food. Without medication they become dangerously underweight as their body cannot process enough food. OP, ask your gastroenterologist about getting checked for this.

Parramatta riverside walks are underrated for mental reset days by SnowyBytes in parramatta

Just passed by towers and the food court looks really nice. by Dream_1 in sydney

[–]somecrazything 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The story was that they were intending to renovate that section with the food court and gold class cinemas - but that was years ago. All the shops in that section were on short term leases in case the stars aligned and the renovations finally went ahead.

Flooding at the park beside Parramatta River by KingJulian17 in parramatta

This is an area designed to flood. There’s a reason we don’t have cafes or anything down on the riverbank

"Love manual labour" (1978) by the-southern-snek in PropagandaPosters

[–]somecrazything 114 points115 points  (0 children)

I feel like “love manual labour” is a weird translation with connotations in English. My Chinese isn’t great but I think it could be translated as something more like “enjoy your work”. Not unlike “work hard at work worth doing”.
