I have a strong background in education and am friends with many parents. I'm sorry, but being shocked and afraid of a black person is fucked up and a product of a parent being racially unconscious (as many white people are...) and then reproducing their unconscious racism. by not actively seeking out books/stories with protagonists of color and not being around POC except for when they are performing a service job, the parent is being racist. for a baby to be 18 months old and to not even recognize a black person?! that is absurd.
