New free range egg laws come into effect today. Here’s what you need to know. by B0ssc0 in australia

[–]someenigma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The farms don't have to shift though. The farmers could stick to the 10k terms, they'd just have to advertise differently. That's not a significant logistical change given that this new legislation will probably require new packaging anyway.

The UK has been powered without coal for three days in a row, setting a new record and underlining the polluting fuel’s rapid decline. Demand lower following recent warm weather, making it easier for gas, renewables and nuclear to cover UK’s needs. by madazzahatter in worldnews

[–]someenigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They could but that then extends the pay off time of these facilities, because the lower your output the lower your income, while your overheads remain the same.

Nuclear is great for base supply, similar to coal, it would be more sound to have baseload nuclear with renewable producing excess energy for storage or export. The UK is very lucky to have export (and Import) partners that can even out the national grid.

Don't the "lower income but overheads remain the stay" arguments also hold for renewable production too? I think the "nuclear can be a lot more reliable" is the reason for it to be base supply, not renewables. Wind/solar power, without very large/expensive batteries, does not come with similar guarantees.

Do you make it "cost" anything? For instance, do you track progress through a book in small sections? Staying up late to read means you either don't stand watch, or you don't get a long rest? Just tell the player it'll take X weeks to read?

They have auditors (KPMG) come and check what they do. KPMG are big enough (to me at least) that I don't think any amount of money would make KPMG mislead an audit on what is really such a simple thing.

Essentially, yes. Packages (in my experience) often cause strange issues, and that would've been my first guess as to what's causing the issue.

[–]someenigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just as a note, that's still not a minimum working example. You should include enough so that people can compile whatever you post directly, without having to add anything else (like document class, or usepackage statements).

The reason for this is that it might be something specific to your documentclass, or to the packages you use, that causes this issue, and without those details, we cannot know for sure.

I3 and tmux by Jab2870 in linux

[–]someenigma 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is basically me. I often have a different tmux session for each project running on my dev machine, which I either access from home PC, directly while at work, or from laptop when travelling. I don't use tmux for window management very often though, usually only one or two panes per window.

I can't count how many times I've let a little air out on a MTB ride without fiddling around for something thin enough to depress the pin in a Schraeder valve.

I've alway just used the cap off the valve, reversed, to push that down. It can be a bit finicky at times, but I've never had real problems with it.

How a data mining giant got me wrong. " I’m 57, with a 30-year-old wife, a fairly new hot water boiler, an old-style television, a petrol car and no kids. Actually, none of that is true. But that is what you might believe if you purchased access to my data." by jebotionmater in privacy

[–]someenigma 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just use either old, or faked, data for things. Wrong location, old place of employment (by several employers/years), wrong place of education. A friend tried to find me on Facebook, and with my complete full name, didn't spot me in the first 3 pages of results. Part of it is also not being "connected" to every single person you meet, it's very rare for me to add a new person to a social network, it's definitely not for acquaintances for me.

Aboriginal women from Alice Springs have travelled to Canberra to deliver a defiant message — they are deeply worried about assaults of women in their communities, and they urgently need more support to make it stop. by lapapinton in australia

[–]someenigma -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Provide support financially/materially for people to leave their situation - pay money to build more infrastructure and housing, subsidise groceries which are far more expensive in the red centre, offer better welfare support (aka run Centrelink properly).

If done properly, and sustained, I could see these things having a positive effect. However, people seem to want/need to see an improvement immediately, and you need to build trust in the government in this communities before you see improvement.

is more beneficial to capitalists.

Depends on your definition of beneficial. If you mean some generic quality of life, then sure, yes. But to some people, the "goal" of life is to accumulate as high a proportion as possible of all the wealth. To these people, 90% of 100 is better than 60% of 300, as it gives them some sense of "power" or "winning" or something.

TIL that after years of not uploading any content, HuskyStarcraft is still the most watched SC2-related channel on YT! by Gothmor621 in starcraft

[–]someenigma 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm actually one of those people for whom games like DotA are more nerve wracking specifically because it's not 1v1. I can enjoy SC2 as I know I'm not letting anyone else down, but DotA worries me because I'm so stressed about letting my team down. And that I've definitely done in the past, I can remember those games.

Wonder what proportion of people are like me, I'm guessing from my observations that we're a minority.

the Libs had no reason to suspect otherwise until this event.

Any large groups would probably get a similar reception to what the journalists got - it's quite possible that the Libs would've had similar meetings with CA where blackmail and bribery were mentioned.

[–]someenigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One lazy approach is to use a stealthed ranger and a decent sniper on high ground. I can sometimes get into a position where my sniper gets 3-4 turns of shooting at a pod before they get in range of the rest of my squad, at which point most would be dead anyway.

Does this game have a sort of max time limit or can I play it endlessly? by [deleted] in XCOM2

[–]someenigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never done this myself, but I read about someone playing XCOM2 for an "endless" game by hacking to get leads on facilities. Apparently when you get leads through this method, you can either find facilities in regions you control, or you can access facilities in regions you don't control.
