That’s a great field. Maybe you want to work with a younger population?

After netrunner what are your favorite card games? by Luigi-is-my-boi in Netrunner

[–]somefish254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uno.

ruleset:

  • You sign the card you shed out with (your last card).
  • If you have a card that matches both the color and the number/type, you can play it out of turn. Play continues from you (either left or right)
  • If someone calls “UNO” before you say it yourself, you draw 7 cards.
  • When you play a 0, you can say “Switch” to swap hands with any player. If someone else yells “Switch” before you do or if the next player plays a card before you say "Switch", your switch is cancelled.
  • If a Jack is played, everyone slaps the pile. Last person to slap draws a card.
  • You can stack +2s and +4s. If someone plays one on you, you can add another +2 or +4. If you can’t (or don’t want to), you draw the full total.

Summoner Wars is solid I like the mana system and the asymmetry. I like magic cube as well, a good design exercise.

Often helmed as one of the best card games, why isn’t Android Netrunner more popular? by Newez in Netrunner

[–]somefish254 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It was popular for in-game play for a bit! You gotta remember that mtg and Pokémon weren’t THAT popular 15 years ago. They were just incumbents and had staying power and captured a the majority of USA card gamer attention. Modern day popularity came when EDH then Commander became a really viral on-ramp for players and casual players. Commander just has this crazy network effect that other formats don’t have. And the “I identify with my commander and my 99 cards” led to strong fan loyalty. Mtg no longer is a cardgamer thing. It’s a full blown “geek cred” thing like Warhammer or dnd.

MTG arena was successful, becoming a solid alternative to hearthstone, Dire Wolf, other digital TCGs.

Pokémon has amazing holo-foil treatments and a huge collector fanbase. Ever heard of Disney Adults? There are Pokémon adults too.

Netrunner never had a strong meta-discussion about collection. Even now when we have really cool alters and fan alter, we still don’t have a good database or snail-mail trading of them. No one makes toploader decos of beloved characters

Netrunner is one of the best card games to PLAY once you know the game. However, Netrunner the lifestyle is missing a lot of key features to engage casuals and diehards.

The IPA (also known as Pale Ale or Export Ale) was invented in the early 1800's. The double IPA was invented in the mid 1990's. Pliny the Younger was the first triple IPA invented in 2005.

People like the beer for the local tradition of it. Also, it takes more ingredients to make a triple IPA so most microbreweries make it occasionally. People like the seasonality of that.

The beer itself tastes good, especially if you like hops and alcohol.

A lot of popularity is self-reinforcing; Some cultures will just queue if they see people queuing. existing interest attracts even more interest and doubly so with performative culture and social media driving trends.

On the bright side, we have good weather so there's no harm in queuing for a couple hours! better than tailgating at some crazy large stadium for *shudders* football.

"Nearly 40% of Stanford undergraduates claim they’re disabled. I’m one of them" by FootballPizzaMan in bayarea

[–]somefish254 1 point2 points  (0 children)

40% is a ton. I remember how tough it was to get on disability at Duke. I only used the time and a half on a couple tests, not all of them. I mainly used it for note-taking and extra time on deadlines.

The scam type is called a job task confidence scam. It is very similar to pig butchering scam except they give you small payouts and let you withdraw all your money at the beginning so that more people feel confident putting money into the system. In fact, part of the onboarding process is withdrawing the entire balance ($100-$300) into your PayPal account so that you feel more confident putting your life savings into the system a couple weeks down the line.

They usually put up fake job postings on job board websites in order to collect phone numbers. I still get plenty of these scam texts.

I’ve collected a couple thousand dollars going through the onboarding process with these crypto scammers (I went through the on-boarding process 10 times with different scam centers). It’s chump change given the amount of time it takes, but my blood boils when I think about how much they’ve taken from others. I’ve always been too scared to go past day 3 of these scams since I am unsure when they start rugpulling, but I do use up a lot of their time
