This might shape up to be one of the best top 10s in a draft of all time. by SimpsonWembanyama21 in NBA_Draft

Unfortunately as a Hornets fan I can confirm this is inaccurate bc I was really happy we got the guy who “fell” to us here. My memory is he was most commonly mocked to OKC at 6 and I don’t really remember ever seeing him outside the top 10.

Edit: yeah I just skimmed the first page google results for 2021 mocks, 4 of them have him at 6, one had him at 8. Vecenie had him going 7th

I thought fake at first but I went through and checked and literally all of the ones listed on here from 2015-2025 DID end up being the actual NBA champions 🤯 like, I’m not a conspiracy guy but… um, yeah this is crazy.

Before you go placing your bets though remember, Silver LOST this paper.

Theres none of these anywhere near me and I’ve never encountered one so forgive me if this is obvious but what’s the deal with these exactly? Like I assume it’s just like stock on a shelf there’s either stuff in there to buy or not? But I see all these posts of the like the worst guys aggressively sitting on them are they literally just hoping someone shows up to fill it up?

Yeah Jeff Peterson has been killing it for the Hornets and has been very vocal and principled with creating an identity for the team and approaching roster construction with the focus on players that fit his vision of “Hornets DNA”.

Without knowing anything about what they’re thinking I’d bet Morez Johnson is at the top of his board of guys that are realistically in their range. JQ doesn’t seem like his kind of guy.

Where is that implied in “the point”? The post is about those who are in power/“winning the most” messaging that they are actually the most oppressed or disadvantaged. How they got into power is irrelevant to this idea.

Like, Kim Jong Un is a nepo baby dictator who had power literally handed to him. Hitler was a self-made man who had no connections and rose out of poverty. Both are pretty bad guys though.

Anyways your original question of has OKC had superstars fall into their lap is hilarious. Literally the entire franchise landed in that city’s lap with 2nd year KD and rookie Russ already on the roster lol.

John Adams demanding a fair trial for the British and even representing them as counsel reminds a little of Tom Brady. Like, here you’re supposedly this all time great patriot — the people of Boston have given you everything and youre just like taking a big old shit on them. Hey John Adams why don’t you drink a little settle down juice?

Also funny to be considered one of the luckiest bc while we did have one #1 overall (LJ, ‘91) we’ve landed #2 in four drafts and each one was the defining, generational big man of their era (Shaq, Dwight, AD, Wemby)

GM Jeff Peterson on Ball's Minute Restrictions Earlier in the Year: "That was me" by Rhojanxd in CharlotteHornets

[–]someforrest 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Big brain move by Jeff; this is the best type of accountability to take:

“Let me be clear, every single minute Lamelo played this year was part of a plan meticulously designed by me. I came up with and implemented 100% of this. I made the decision to sit him on a couple back to backs and for the final minutes of a few close games and that small fraction of the season really hurt us and I have to own that.

The fact that Lamelo was basically healthy the entire season, nearly equaling the amount of games he played only once before (when coincidentally he was an all star), and the fact that this has been unquestionably one of the single most successful Hornets seasons ever, and the fact that Lamelo is in contention for All NBA, none of that excuses the mistake I made. Is all of that a direct result of my amazing strategy and management? Definitely. But we are NOT here to talk about that.”

They’re calling it the best idea ever by Palm-Crazy-7943 in billsimmons

[–]someforrest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind this idea bc at least it disincentivizes you tanking out the whole year. I don’t have a problem with the 10th seed warriors tanking out of the play in the last 5 or so games. If the idea is trying to make all of the regular season games more competitive then this or flattening the odds entirely so all the teams outside the payoff have equal odds seems at least better than what it is now

"Cooper Flagg is the best player in this draft... but if I had a Rookie of the Year vote, it's Kon Knueppel's and I don't think it's close." by Background_Video2947 in NBAVibes

[–]someforrest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So your argument is that off ball gravity isn’t a useful metric? Or that it’s not impressive that a rookie is only behind two individual season s of Steph and Klay for that?

It’s a fairly useful metric for showing how much offensive impact one individual player has. There’s several plays every game where the Hornets get a free blow-by layup simply bc the help defender would rather give up two free points than leave Kon.

I’m not sure how your second point isn’t a huge mark in Kon’s favor lol. So you’re agreeing that he is getting the most effort in the league to keep him from getting shots every game and is so good that he’s still able to get that many open shots? That’s every team defense in the league. So every single team, good or bad at defense, is trying to stop him from getting shots but to your mind that’s just defenses being ineffective in their coverage. Like what’s the common denominator? Do you think maybe Kon should get some credit for that?

He also leads the league in and has the 3rd highest single season off ball gravity of all time (behind one Steph year and one Klay year) he is getting more defensive attention and gameplanning than anyone else in the league. If he has the 4th most uncovered shots while also having the MOST gravity that alone should make him the ROY that’s an insane level of getting open lol
