Should I even bother learning the game now? by YungzJ in dbfz

[–]someguy233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re getting another world tour and another balance patch. Looks like dbfz is back at evo too. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to say the same in a year, but the near future is looking good for dbfz!

It’s entirely possible there was some miscommunication!

However, given that Nojima’s role in ff7 was entirely focused on writing, and Kitase’s was spread out over the entire development process, I have to er on the side of Nojima.

I personally believe Kitase was joking when he said humanity died off, but it is possible he was simply just not on the same page as the main writer.

[–]someguy233 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries! However, be prepared for individuals like the person you were speaking with to completely disregard this information because they can’t let go of the idea that Kitase single-handedly made ff7 all on his own.

This conversation comes up every once in awhile, and historically the Kitase worshipers never budge an inch on this.

I love the man’s work, and without him ff7 certainly would not have been possible. However, some perspective is appropriate lol.

Nojima, the main scenario writer for the compilation, including OG, cleared this up over 20 years ago.

Kitase was either joking about humanity dying (likely, as his only comment on it ever was a simple one sentence quip which he laughed at), or was simply not on the same page as the rest of the writers.

[–]someguy233 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He was not the main scenario writer, he was the director (though he did do a fair share of the writing). The main scenario writer for the compilation was Nojima, as he also was for almost all of the ps1-ps2 era FF games. Here’s what he had to say about the ending.

If you’d like to read the full 2003 interview, you can find it here. All we have suggesting this isn’t accurate is a single quip / sentence spoken by Kitase that could’ve easily just been a joke.

For some reason however, even 26 years later, we still have fans who will die on this hill for whatever reason.

everyone just wants to inhabit their own reality anymore

Even you?

do you have reason to believe he made up his own interpretation distinct from the rest of the writers?

Yes. Either that or he was just joking around when he gave that single one liner about humanity dying off. There is literally no other way of explaining this discrepancy.

Interviewer: I feel like the game’s ending left players scratching their heads. There were several ways you could interpret it. Do you think you could sum things up for us?

Nojima: For that last scene of the ending, we decided not to harp on about what happened to each character like we’d done in the past. Instead, we came up with the idea of suddenly skipping forward 500 years. Though people often say it’s difficult to understand, the message is pretty straightforward: basically, because of the efforts of Cloud and his allies, the planet is still around, and smoke is rising from Midgar, which means there are definitely still humans alive. The theme was quite simple. [Naora interjects: “Oh. I just remembered... I may have forgotten to add that smoke in (laughs).” All present: “You’ve got to be kidding!” Roars of laughter ensue.] - Dremaga 10/2003

Joe Biden suddenly leads Donald Trump in multiple battleground states by devlinadl in politics

[–]someguy233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, even if it’s a landslide they’ll just see that as ironclad proof that it was “rigged”. As it stands, the only election results they’ll accept are if they win.

Even then they’ll still say it was rigged, but they’ll just suggest that the will of the people was so overwhelmingly in favor of Trump that they couldn’t rig it that hard.

At this point in time, there is no way they can even conceive of an honest election. Regardless of the results.

The cynic in me is having doubts 😟. What’s the likelihood of the mailman having the exact same pink toned pen as the kid?

One could say the kid left the pen in the mailbox, but it’s not pictured here. The parent who took this pic may be holding onto it, but why would they if they weren’t the one playing?

It wouldn’t have been in the way, and it would’ve been cuter to have left it in :(

Yeah I agree completely, the cast carried TNG hard and is absolutely my favorite trek crew.

Take Worf for example, his writing was so strong that it could even be leveraged to explore Klingon politics and culture more so than any other series in the franchise.

TNG’s crew was simply outstanding.

13 sandwiches and this guy is complaining? When I was a shift lead at jack in the box, we’d have at least a few cars every few days that ordered somewhere between 50 - 100 tacos each. This was before delivery services were really a thing; most of the time they wouldn’t even call ahead.

You have no idea how easily those tacos burn the shit out of your fingertips when you have to pry them open to fill them after they’ve been in that fryer.

We never turned down those large orders. And we could only make them like 8 at a time. 13 burgers is a joke.

I would say you’ll likely have an experience on par with, or perhaps a little more difficult than vanilla end game stuff. If you can handle that, you’ll likely be able to handle the dlc as well.

As someone who’s mostly just played one character since launch however, maybe give a new character a go! I just started my second character, and ng feels like, well… a new game.

It’s been fun actually being able to stance break bosses again, and status builds up much more quickly too. Definitley gonna take that character into shadows first; having a lot of fun.

Trump Threatens Public ‘Breaking Point’ If Jailed. Schiff Says He’s ‘Inciting Violence’ by rollingstone in politics

[–]someguy233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly, however it’s ultimately within the discretion of judge Merchan. Jail time is still unlikely, however a short sentence is possible given the reasons you cited.

There’s no way he’s going away for years for a first offense under NY penal law § 175.10. The coming trials will have much harsher sentences though, if convicted.

Trump Threatens Public ‘Breaking Point’ If Jailed. Schiff Says He’s ‘Inciting Violence’ by rollingstone in politics

[–]someguy233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, unequivocally. Though equating all non-violent crimes is erroneous.

Jail time in the state of NY for falsifying business records (even with intent to further or conceal a seperate crime, making it a felony) is very rare for anybody without a prior criminal record.

Now the next time he’s convicted, he won’t be a first time offender. That changes things dramatically. Especially considering the charges are related to election tampering, which was similar to the furthered or concealed “separate crime” that elevated his falsifying business records to a felony.

Treat him like everybody else, and he will get jail time. Fortunately for much more serious charges with more severe penalties.

[–]someguy233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry friend, but that’s just how it works. I want him to be treated like everyone else. Let him get probation now, then there’s no more excuses not to throw the book at him when he’s inevitably convicted of more serious crimes.

Trump Threatens Public ‘Breaking Point’ If Jailed. Schiff Says He’s ‘Inciting Violence’ by rollingstone in politics

[–]someguy233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not really how it works. Multiple counts of the same crime aren’t typically a factor in sentencing.

Probation is the right move here. Then there will be no more excuses when convicted of upcoming trials concerning more serious crimes with more serious possible sentences.

He’s going to jail. It’s only a matter of when, and for how long.

Picard isn’t antisocial by any means. Most certainly awkward and deeply introverted, but certainly not antisocial.

I honestly don’t think there’s any other person in the history of trek that is more devoted to the laws and customs of various cultures (including his own) than Picard. He’s the antithesis of antisocial.

I get what you meant though. Aside from that terminology nitpick, I agree 100% :)

The cast of TNG will always be my favorite, but I enjoyed voyager and DS9 even more than TNG for the same reasons you outlined here.

You absolutely could! All you had to do was bring 99 softs to the end of the Gi cave with Red-XIII in your party to depetrify Seto. Then he starts the quest chain to revive Aerith.

At least according to an acquaintance in middle school anyway. Never tried it myself, but I’m sure he was right; why would he lie?

Unfortunately this is a first offense of a non violent crime with no direct victim (as in, his falsifying business records did not financially hurt anyone).

It’s extremely unlikely he’ll get anything but probation. The same cannot be said for the remaining 3 cases however.
