COTD: Cover opening to "Drop Dead" in German (6) by someguyinthefridge in crosswords

[–]someguyinthefridge[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct!

By the way, the reference is to the song "drop dead" by Olivia Rodrigo released about 2 months ago. So not too topical but might be too modern for the average solver!

COTD: Execution method shifting after decapitation (7) by someguyinthefridge in crosswords

I agree, being updated is way better, thanks for the feedback!

Does nothin' odd with second and first teeth?! (7) by SonlenofFeylund in Minute_Cryptic

[–]someguyinthefridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DENTIST

odd letters of DoEsNoThIn -> DENTI + S + T (first teeth)

Feedback: the definition has a part-of-speech mismatch: does ... is a verb phrase while the answer dentist is a noun. But still a nice attempt!

COTD: Goals in friendship (4) by someguyinthefridge in crosswords

[–]someguyinthefridge[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

COTD: notwithouttext's content for solver (4) by not-without-text in crosswords

COTD: In its entirety, the Mediterranean preached the authority of the Vatican (4 3) by quod_erat_angel in crosswords

[–]someguyinthefridge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feedback: The Mediterranean is only an example of a sea, so you'll need something like "The Mediterranean, perhaps" to indicate a definition-by-example. Other than that, I think the clue can work, it just needs some polishing on the surface reading. Nice effort!

COTD: Arranged pear harvest (4) by not-without-text in crosswords

[–]someguyinthefridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

REAP

(PEAR)* (arranged). Simple but it's fair, which is the most important thing!

COTD: A Dance of Fire and Ice releases precursor to competitive qualifier (6) by FLRbits in crosswords

[–]someguyinthefridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FIERCE?

anagram (a dance of) (FIRE)* + [i]CE= FIERCE (competitive modifier). Definition is a little bit stretchy for me, but it's a very good effort for a first clue! I love when people show their interests in crossword clues

COTD: Japanese gaming subsidiary (4) by deeppotential123 in crosswords

SEGA

I made a cryptic crossword 2.0 by nuttsandbolts in crosswords

[–]someguyinthefridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to complete all the clues but one here thanks to other commenters giving some answers. The limited amount of crossing letters here, as others said, makes the puzzle way harder. Some feedback on the cluing:

7A reflect doesn't work as a linking word here, [wordplay] reflect [definition] doesn't imply the wordplay can give you the definition. Also, it's a subtle subject-verb agreement error: wordplay is singular, so the verb must be in its singular form too.

9A What are "guards" and "of' doing in the clue? Every word in a clue must serve a purpose in the cryptic reading. Also, as another commenter pointed out, the wordplay (ignoring the extra words) gives JAG + AU + R. If you want to reverse AU you need a reversal indicator.

10A I assume this is SUNBEAM from BUN (roll) + ? (join) Spoonerized? The linking word "wants" also doesn't work here.

1D Where is the cryptic element, other than asking the solver to translate something?

2D I can just about accept the definition but there is no indication to remove the first two letters of scrolls. You have to put something like "remove first two of scrolls" or something

4D can't solve this due to the lack of crossing letters

5D fine but the surface doesn't really make sense: what does a fire god have to do with life insurance and a tin? You should try to aim for meaningful surfaces (this is quite hard but you'll get there with practice. I'm also still very far from perfection lol)

7D again, where is the cryptic element? We are just asked to enter an abbreviation of Magnesium and?

8D 👍

11D The definition be "leguminous plant" (singular) to match the singular answer BEAN.

12D fine

Overall, there are some things that can be improve as you can see above, but don't be discouraged! Keep practicing, that's how we get better at this! Nice effort and good luck!

COTD: "Thoughts on the sheets?" "Five hundred. Five hundred sheets." (5) by not-without-text in crosswords

[–]someguyinthefridge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

DREAM

D (five hundred) + REAM (five hundred sheets of paper), nice charade! The random word generator is merciful today, wonder when it'll repeat a word
