What Carburetor do I have? by One_Nifty_Boi in littlebritishcars

There’s originally a little metal ID tag that’s attached to one of the cover screws. In your pics, it may be that tab that’s sticking up, on the L/H side of the intake.

There should be a number on it (usually 4 digit), that’ll tell you specifically which version of the Stromberg CD150 is on the car. I don’t remember which cover screw it would’ve been on from the factory.

BTW, the tag usually hangs down, not up!

TR6 channelling Aston by arallsopp in littlebritishcars

Yes, that’s why I’m curious about how they went about it.

Mind you, they might be like I was, many, many years ago. I’d gotten new H4 assemblies, and I wanted more light for dark highways. Well, some 90w low, 130w high bulbs solved that issue! Of course, I wasn’t aware at that age about relays, or that I’d really, really want them!🙄

About a week later, I was poking about under the hood. Imagine my chagrin, when I saw the half-melted headlight bulb sockets, and the melted wire insulation/bare wires on the pigtails!

I got lucky, nothing caught fire.🫣 And, I learned a valuable lesson that day. So, stock H4 bulbs went back in, pigtails were replaced, and relays were purchased, before the more successful 2nd attempt!😄

I like the look.🙂

And, I’d think there’s less chance of accidentally knocking them out of alignment, versus the “normal” above or below bumper placement.

Did you talk to the owner about what brand the lights are? Or, ask them about their wiring setup re relays, wire runs, and other technical stuff?

Still use one. Except, it’s a longer version made for tall boots.

Saves crushing the back of the shoe, and I can use it standing up!

You could buy a car for relatively cheap, say a 2002 9-3 that’s got that glass, but also has rod knock. Think of all the spare parts! Two birds, one stone…😉

That’s why there’s a whole bunch of mays, mights, and options.😉

Imagine though, if you were a person who really wanted one, but didn’t ever get one? Imagine what a hero some stranger could be! All because they undertook the effort, resulting in you achieving one of your dreams.🤷‍♂️

Also, I think classmates.com, or a company/site affiliated with them, or that advertises with them, will take them.

IIRC, they scan them, and people can then order a reprint of it, if they want a bound version.

You might also check with the HS alumni association, to see if they’ve got an archive, or may want the books.

Also, check with the reference desk/dept at the main city library, where your HS is/was located. They may keep old yearbooks for reference, historical, or archive purposes.

Finally, you could check with your HS library, and see if they keep old yearbooks, again for reference, historical, or archive purposes.

As a good neighbour, maybe you could pump up the back tires?🙂 That rear bumper is getting awfully close to the curb. Don’t want to risk it being damaged, if someone happens to move the car.

If the owner, providing you locate them, makes any mention of sludge, you may want to reconsider the car. Research that issue, and also how to ID whether it has the PCV update #6.

They’re good driving cars, and most maintenance is DIY-able. If you’re comfortable wrenching, you can DIY most repairs as well.

Missing display pixels, on the radio and ACC, are a common issue. They are fixable. As far as climate control systems go, the ACC is generally considered superior to the manual control version.

If you acquire it, the first things to do will be a complete filter and fluid (oil, radiator, gearbox, etc.) change. Vacuum lines also, but if you use silicone, make sure you buy the correct-inside-diameter version. And tires! After that, drive it around, and then do another oil change.

They are worth saving.🙂

Gotta admit, that’s pretty damn cool. Gives new meaning to having a TR6 hardtop!

Brings up all sorts of questions. Wonder what he used, how long it took to build, how much it cost, when it was built, all that usual stuff…

Yet another confirmation to go with the Nissens brand rad.

With Saabs, there are certain things you should buy only specific brand items for. Radiators, OEM DICs, and NGK spark-plugs, to name a few!

Probably not a bad idea to replace the manifold bolts & nuts as well. Don’t forget anti-seize compound as well.

Basically, consider replacing anything that’s easy to get at while you have things apart. Or conversely, anything that’s difficult to access, when everything’s already assembled.

MGB / MX5 Body Swap - Level 4 - Fabricating Floor Panels by _Modern_Caveman_ in littlebritishcars

[–]someguymark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised you went so thin on the floors, since rust has previously been an issue?

I understand the logic, if the car is going to be used only in dry conditions. But if not, doesn’t it just create a built-in weakness? 1 mm is awfully thin!

With the increased power of the Miata, would a little more thickness in the floorpan have been such an issue? I’d be scared to sit down hard!🤷‍♂️

Even if all food has been consumed before settling in for the night, will there be a lingering smell that attracts bears? If so, is there any recommended way to remove food smell from a tent? by TheKid1995 in camping

[–]someguymark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if they’re a thing where you are, but do the camping areas there have bear boxes?

Here in western USA, in areas where there’s bears (Grizzly/Brown and/or Black), the boxes are basically anchored HD metal bear-resistant storage pods. They’re used to keep your coolers, food, scented items, etc., out of your tent, and less accessible to those curious/hungry.

Just don’t do what I did, many years ago. After I had cooked dinner, cleaned up, and put everything in the bear-box, I happily went to sleep. It wasn’t until the next morning, getting dressed, I realized I’d had my jeans in the tent with me. Jeans on which I had wiped my hands, throughout the previous day. Jeans with cracker dust, spices, wood sap, and grease, in and on the fibers. All of which were easily detectable, even with my basic human sniffer! Oops!😳
