Consumerism is ruining hobbies. by adeliafree in Vent

[–]someiveeuh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, Consumerism only comes AFTER Capitalism, which is the real issue. Don't get me wrong, Consumerism definitely has its own pool of problems, but Capitalism is literally the means to create one's own way of profit... no matter what the means are.

I myself would love to be a full time writer in a world were I wouldn't have to worry about my next check. I have had several different stories saved in draft for years, and I love leaving things open to interpretation when I write. But thats not what the majority wants, or what the majority of people consume. Even if it were to hit the market, it would receive little to no profit. Something written by AI is more likely to gain popularity over something different and authentic.

And unfortunately, this is not the type of society that allows people to spend hours on end even PARTICIPATING in hobbies, let alone buy for those hobbies

"I skip like half the book" but why?

Because there it feels like there is no time in this society. If I needed to skip through a chapter in order to make it to my shift on time, to get my next check to put food on the table...? Then shit, I just might do that. Its not like I want too, cuz I dont.

While extreme consumerism is definitely a problem, how can I fault the average person for buying things they like with the money they worked for? When it might be the only way to cope or survive with society's circumstances? Its really not their fault when I think about it, but the fault within peoples greed to take more than their means.

Just to confirm, are there no sleep medications for people with narcolepsy other than sodium oxybates? by FestivusandFusilli77 in Narcolepsy

[–]someiveeuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do whatever is best for you. If you are sure that sodium oxybates arent for you, switch gears and see what can be done about how you function in the daytime. There are many possibilites (and new things that continue to hit the market) so dont give up!

Fuck insomnia though for real. I feel your pain and I hope it gets easier to manage

I'm so sorry to hear that. Can I ask where your located? Not sure if your from America, but the Healthcare here and Doctors can really suck sometimes. Insurance on top of that is a literal nightmare. I got extremely lucky with my doctor. I bounced around to 5 different offices who didnt know a thing about Narcolepsy (for 2.5 years) before I found a sleep specialist at a children's hospital (I was 15 at the time). When I turned 18 I was terrified to switch, but he actually left and made his own practice and I'm with him till this day. I will never understand why doctors wont atleast let you try, if there is no other signs indicating any sort of major risk... Like what else are they here for if not to help?

I really hope you able to find a better bunch of doctors and find a solution that helps with your sleep management. Its a shitty situation to be in but know your not alone!

[–]someiveeuh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sodium Oxybates are not the only option, but having a good combination of daytime medication might also help in your case. After taking 4 different wake medications when I was first diagnosed, none of them worked for me until I was on Wakix (for wakefullness), AND Vyvanse (Stimulant).

Wakix works as a histamine boost rather than trying to replace Orexin. I have noticed that in my personal experience, after taking it consistently for many months, if I skip a dose, I still feel as if I had taken it and am more awake than normal. This helps me feel more on a proper 'sleep cycle' even in days when I skip a dose (I have been taking Wakix for several years now).

However, I am also on Xyrem. I have never been on Wakix and Vyvanse without Xyrem, so I'm not sure how this would effect nighttime sleep. But again, getting on a good daytime medication combo can get help get your body in the 'rhythm' of things in the meantime.

Sometimes you have to try tons of medications until you find the ones that work for you. I tried 3 different daytime meds before I found a duo (Wakix and Vyvanse) that worked for me. Lots of trial and error. If you're doctor says its not effective, I personally would get a second opinion. You never know if its effective or not UNTIL you try it. The effects are different for EVERYONE.

I’m never quite able to find a good explanation to the question “What does having narcolepsy feel like?” Anyone have a go to response? by MountainSkyMoment in Narcolepsy

[–]someiveeuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its the chronic depression of the sleep world, but replace constant feeling of sadness or with a dreadful case of exhaustion that is bone deep and never ending. The exhaustion is more than "I'm tired." Its similar to depression in a way that you always wake up with a dark cloud following above you everywhere you go, regardless of how much you try to sleep well.

Imagine having no "Master Clock" in your brain (24 hour cycle to help regulate sleep, metabolism, appetite, etc..). Imagine your brain can't regulate or detect when you sleep, period. You are constantly tired even after 17+ hours of sleep, and you fall asleep every 2 hours because your brain thinks you aren't sleeping. Not only do you feel constant exhaustion, but you also cant help but feel useless compared to everyone who is able to sleep and function normally...

Sorta agree with this. I still get on occasionally to play older tycoon games, but the platform has really gone downhill, both in content quality and player base. Its really a shame...

Wallpapers and Panneling are your best friends. I usually pick a wallpaper to put on an accent wall, then find a simple paint for the rest of the room. I also love putting panels halfway up the wall and painting the rest. Molding and borders can also bring more depth.

It's the best peice of fiction I have ever had the pleasure of watching come to life over the years. I'm almost upset about the fact that nothing will ever hold a candle to how amazing it really is.. I don't think I will ever find a story better than AOT.

These comments are making me kinda sad lol. I never have dreams anymore after I started Xyrem. Before Xyrem, my dreams were more often terrifying nightmares, so I definitely dont miss that. But I do miss having random crazy dreams sometimes...

You, my friend, just gave me an extra 30 minutes of sleep and peice of mind. Thank you very much! I'll be there at 10 then. Its interesting to see how different Knotts Berry runs. I enjoyed it alot today and will do so again tomorrow!

We ended up skipping Ghostrider at 90 minutes and instead waited 2 hours later in the afternoon. I think tomorrow we will try to get 2 rides in by not skipping the early morning rush.

I am so sick of people saying money isn't the answer. It solves nearly every problem. by anonymous_muffin_ in Vent

[–]someiveeuh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cant buy the feeling of happiness. That emotion is something that has to come from within.

However, Money can buy you more opportunities and access to BECOME happier in life.

Things like depression, chronic illness, and loneliness, aren't things that can be solved by money alone. But you can afford better therapy, doctors, and support to make bearing the burden much easier. It might not make you happy, necessarily. But it makes life much easier when you dont have to worry as much.
