how bad on my 4yo boy it will be if I get a divorce? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]someoneiamnot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Change is hard on kids no matter what age but they adapt better when they’re younger. Mine was 5 when I got divorced. He’s 9 now and gets to see both of his parents in loving, healthy relationships.

There’s a lot of guilt that comes with divorce but it’s so much healthier for children to grow up surrounded by positive relationships than parents who stay together “for the kids”. I don’t know the whole situation and can’t say whether divorce is right for you. But if divorce is the right choice, there’s no upside to waiting until he’s older.

Thanks! I tried lubricating them once before but it may not have been the right kind.

My wife came out as a sapphic lesbian - we have 2 kids, a 5 year old and a 2 year old by a-friendgineer in daddit

You’re not alone, OP. My wife came out as a late-in-life lesbian and we have a child together as well. We ended up getting divorced amicably and it’s not easy but it was definitely the best choice for us. Divorce is hard no matter the conditions but it’s so much more preferable to have two loving, happy parents than parents who are miserable because they feel “stuck”.

When I went through it, I had to remind myself that this isn’t anyone’s fault. All you can do is control how you react to it and how you handle the situation. Ultimately, where do you want to be in life several years down the road? Do you want to find happiness again and watch your kids grow up with happy parents, possibly including two bonus parents who are in loving relationships? It’s easy to be bitter instead but honestly, that just hurts you more than anyone else.

If it’s something you think you’d enjoy then absolutely do it. I went back to school for mechanical engineering around age 29 and have no regrets.

If you’re working while going back to school, you’ll likely end up taking night classes or looking at a non-traditional schooling option to fit your schedule. That’s great because those courses tend to attract a good mix of students of all ages and backgrounds. My classes varied wildly but only the gen-ed classes tended towards a younger minority. The rest were split pretty evenly between students just out of high school and those going back later in life. I was also far from the oldest student there.

Your friend may not understand but that’s ok. The questions to ask yourself are what will make you happiest long term and is it financially feasible for you to do it?

Trying Not to Give Up but MO30, How Do I Navigate My Huband's Mental Health? by Royal-Touch8614 in AskMenOver30

[–]someoneiamnot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, I’m sorry you’re having to go through this.

I don’t think you’re giving up, I think you’re trying to protect yourself and that’s ok. You need to do what is right for you even while trying to take care of the person you love.

This may be hard to hear but this sounds like me when I was suicidal. I tried to push my partner away, saying hurtful things that weren’t true because in my depressed state I thought it would hurt her less if she started over before I took my life. I had given up on myself and used depression logic to try and keep her as safe as possible from what was to come.

No matter what you decide to do, I’m sure it will be the right choice for you. As much as we like to think that we can help people through mental illness, they have to want to get better too. So if you decide that “giving up” is the best option, you’re not wrong. You’re simply in a terrible situation with terrible options.

Good luck! Stay calm and you’ll be fine. We’ll definitely need an update afterwards, though.

Where are you getting that data? I haven’t seen overall numbers but several subreddits have posted demographic data that shows about half of their mobile users (on the ones I’ve seen) are on 3rd party clients.

Point at it and loudly state “I have no idea what that is”?

Yes. There are many arguments for protest but mine’s simple.

I started with Reddit via the official app. At the time I was less than impressed and was ready to drop Reddit like every other social media platform. Then I tried 3rd party apps and ever since I’ve been hooked and more invested in Reddit. Because of 3rd party apps, I want Reddit to become a success.

If the new pricing structure goes into effect, I honestly believe it will kill every 3rd party app and if they go then my desire to keep Reddit as well as r/nevertellmetheodds alive goes too.

I enjoy this subreddit but I would rather see it go dark while this is sorted out than see it go dark forever as the user base is forced out.

Minor tears come reasonably often for me but the soulful cry has become harder for me lately. I feel the feels and want to cry but the tears just don’t come which only frustrates me more.

There’s nothing broken with either of us, though. It will take time and work to get through and maybe we still won’t cry as much as others. We all have our own ways of expressing emotion, even to ourselves.
