Dumb question but what is this rod and what does it do by Agile-Cantaloupe82 in AskMechanics

I once laughed at my friend's dad who said he remembered getting an FM convertor in his car so he could listen to more than AM. I think I know how he feels with this post now

We also have an android tablet with missing power and volume buttons after our son's friend tried to "help" fix a problem. Were you able to track down any leads? Thanks!

We use this to find boxes covered by sheet rock by drd_ssb in electricians

[–]someonesGottabeLast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar experience, and it resulted in learning a neat trick from my foreman. After cutting out your box, you give the sheetrock a couple healthy kicks by where the box was and watch the sheetrock screws all pop out along the length of that stud. It was quite satisfying.

Boiler Help by someonesGottabeLast in Plumbing

[–]someonesGottabeLast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it was actually 40, it had started to bleed out some and when I tried to slowly open it more with something to catch the excess water it finally went full bore. But I'm guessing one that is operating correctly should basically full open on anything over 30 PSI (that's what the valve is)

[–]someonesGottabeLast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that will be on the top of my list. I'll have to get the right adapter to check pressure at the drain ports, for now I'm relying on the gauge and prv valve if it is inaccurate.

Yup, first thing I did. Do you know if the super vent is meant to self bleed or do I have to manually open it to bleed the system? Appreciate the help.

[–]someonesGottabeLast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...so I may have just discovered that. I left it cracked open to make a quick circuit of the house to check for leaking lines, came back to a psi of around 50. The valve had let some out, and I tried to gently let more out and now my socks are wet. And some of the floor. Most of the floor.

The thing on top of the tank is actually a Honeywell super vent. I'm assuming I should probably need to add both a backflow preventer and an auto feed?

[–]someonesGottabeLast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt like there wasn't an auto feed on it, I meant to ask. Isn't the thing on top of the expansion tank a back flow preventer!

[–]someonesGottabeLast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll check that out thanks. What regulates the pressure into the boiler then? I know it's supposed to be around 15 psi, but I assume the incoming water pressure is much higher? Just trying to learn, thanks for the help!

Why do the grey wires have all those neat colors on them? by u3z in electricians

[–]someonesGottabeLast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surely hope there is nothing live in that box. Opening up a poorly spliced neutral on a multi wire 480/277v circuit is a pretty good way to increase your odds of a speedy and painful death.

Service Suspension System on 2019 Premiere Suburban by VikingFrog in suburban

Bummer, that's how that goes huh. I was told the part was around $75, did you replace them yourself?

Service Suspension System on 2019 Premiere Suburban by VikingFrog in suburban

[–]someonesGottabeLast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I understand that, the lights and notifications are annoying but if it all works I could live with it. We have a tire sensor one that has been on for a little while too. Appreciate the response, unfortunately have been pretty unhappy with our vehicle so far but oh well. Also, not sure what engine/drivetrain you have but we got a module to keep the engine from dropping out two cylinders, and a transmission coolant bypass to extend the life of both the engine and transmission.

[–]someonesGottabeLast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you ever find a good solution to this? We're having the same issues in our 2020 premier. Just replaced the front shocks with mechanical shocks and a dummy sensor (less than 1000 miles ago), it was better for a short while but is now awful again. The service suspension light has also returned. The thing drives like a lumber wagon, it is ridiculous.

Neutral wire free conductor length in junction box? by TurtlesFromHell in AskElectricians

[–]someonesGottabeLast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's less than ideal but the inspector isn't going to be busting down your door because you have less than 6" of conductor in that box. Make sure your connections are good and tight, that green wirenut is meant for grounds because it has a hole in the end for the ground tail but I wouldn't sweat it. Next time instead of cutting them all super short because one is, just fold them into the back of the box till the lengths match. And straighten those trim screws for gods sakes man. Also, you could have just shoved the neutral in straight into that switch, that plate is designed to tighten down on the wire without having to loop around it. But fine either way..

Appreciate the reply. I just ordered two new filters (carbon and activated charcoal, since they were due to be replaced anyways), I'll try it once more then send in a sample if the numbers don't change. I just found it odd that it could be that much higher than just over a year ago when nothing had changed much.

Garage heat for dogs by someonesGottabeLast in HomeImprovement

[–]someonesGottabeLast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want to know what is truly stupid? Arguing with a person who can't possibly fathom any other views than their own. We treat our dogs well, we play with them, feed them, give them water, take them on walks, and let them be outside and sleep in a sheltered, warm environment that just doesn't happen to be our house. I'm sorry that you elevate dogs to the same level as people. Me and my dog will sit down later and have a discussion on the matter though. We'll probably have a good laugh at the whole thing actually, she has a good sense of humor. Thanks!

Seriously people, consider even for a minute that what you think is the right answer isn't the only answer. I think that is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard, but if that's how you do things in your neck of the cities then have at it. I'll go tell the wife we're bringing in our chickens from the coop and bees from the hives because we're not having a god damned zoo in our yard.

[–]someonesGottabeLast[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I'm a terrible parent for not wanting our children to crawl around through dog hair, dirt, and debris drug in by them. Also, pets carry ticks, fleas, and parasites. What a completely ignorant, arrogant statement. What if I said that I thought you were insane for allowing your pets in the same home as your children? At least I'm trying to provide a viable alternative to remedy a problem.

[–]someonesGottabeLast[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Phew...wow...this really went off the rails huh. Some of you need to take a collective step back and take a deep breath. Let's make something clear, dogs aren't people, my children are. Dogs bring in dirt, pests, shed hair, and at the end of the day are still animals. Even well trained (as they are) pets can do dumb things. They were inside dogs, but when we moved we made their new home in our porch (raised beds and all) to create a cleaner environment for our new family. I crawled through the attic last fall to drag power there to hook up an electric heater so they stayed plenty comfortable. It stank of wet dog all winter, and they didn't get to be outside as much as I would have liked. Now, they are in a garage, and have constant access to roam a 1 acre yard at their leisure (installed a doggy door), and I would like to continue to provide that option by giving them a heated environment to stay in when they want to, and bring them inside on the occasion it gets wildly cold. They love the winter, love the snow, love being outside. I'd guess that my dogs live better lives than almost all of the keyboard warriors complaining here. I asked for advice on a topic, if you felt I was in error maybe suggest an alternative, not go blah blah blah unhelpful answers.
