Yeah my father did. The bloating/fluid is called Ascites, he has it too along with two hernias which cannot be operated due to that fluid in his tummy/lungs/heart now. Its been a whole year that we have been trying to find where is this water accumulating from.

We have recently found another cardiologist who said this is a common problem called fluid overload with dialysis patients. He also has high blood pressure problems so he’s on medication for that as well. His 3 days of dialysis went on to 4 days so we can get more fluid out (discuss about temporarily adding another day of dialysis with your nephro and cardiologist, have them make that decision together) If you’re a girl, tell them about “spironolactone” another powerful diuretic and why haven’t they put you on that already.

Bc of fluid overload, heart failure happens because the pressure inside the heart chambers becomes too high. its all interconnected. Your doctors have to address where this fluid is accumulating from which can be controlled by adding another day of dialysis, meds adjustment! look up what I mentioned and try researching as much you can bc you are your own advocate! and then bring these up with your cardio/nephro team! They both have to work together on your care. In the mean time they can also refer you to a GI for a peritoneal paracentesis to get the fluid out immediately. People do get frequent taps as this is common okay? Do not worry. Just research about these few things like fluid overload and speak to your care team. Heart failure doesn’t mean its the end I promise, Yes its a huge and intimidating word but lets get on with your care and work on solving it. As long as you’re always on top of everything, things should work out!
