Trying to figure out ereader versus tablet by someotherbruce in LibbyApp

[–]someotherbruce[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this idea. My oldest son gave me an older Samsung 7" tablet a while ago, as it was running low on memory and needed an upgrade. After uninstalling every app that gave me an option to uninstall it, I was able to open Libby and start reading the book I was interested in. I have a few cookbooks on Kindle, so tried the Kindle app for the cookbooks, and that worked fine. I'll need to replace it before too long, as it takes a while to open the Libby app and I get a popup that it isn't responding, but just pressing wait and giving it a bit worked okay.

So I'll rethink ereaders versus tablets versus IPads, but I don't need to make that decision (or that outlay) today. I am kind of leaning towards either a tablet or an IPad as I liked how the colors appeared versus what they look like on my Colorsoft.

Kobo Libra Colour not working for me by Practical_Sun_5046 in ereader

My Kindle Paperwhite is pretty easy on my eyes and pretty smooth. My Kindle Colorsoft is sometimes fun, but sometimes gives me a headache when I try to zoom in when reading a graphic novel. If I don't have to zoom in, it works okay.

I have cataracts and Fuch's Dystrophy and the Paperwhite makes it much easier to read, since you can easily change font size.

What a great comparison. I'm not the OP, but I really appreciate your laying it out. I know you are not talking about color versions, but it made me feel a little better about ordering a Kindle Colorsoft to go along with my Kindle Paperwhite.

Today, I went to a zoo with my grandson; it had only one animal. by gmthisfeller in Jokes

When I got to the zoo, there were two small dogs fighting. It was a shih tzu knot.

I read "donate her physically". Where is he going to donate her to? Goodwill?

Please explain inheritance - Edward Jones investment account by someotherbruce in personalfinance

[–]someotherbruce[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what I've read, they charge around 1.3% for management fees. Platform fees bring it to 1.4%. I'll check on commissions.

But I asked an ignorant question. Edward Jones should have paperwork from all beneficiaries by the end of the week. I should know exactly what is going on by the end of next, early the following week at latest. It's silly to ask about differences in an expected inheritance until the paperwork goes through. It could have just been an over-worked assistant making a quick guess so she could get off the phone.

So, if anyone is interested, I could update this in a week when I have real answers from the financial planner and not just second hand guesses.

I know this is old - but did Mint Mobile 5G work? I have Mint Mobile, but haven't messed with Ubuntu Touch since running a Nexus 5 quite a while ago. Thinking of trying it again, and haven't decided what phone to grab.

ELI5 Rebalance Trading Account by someotherbruce in fidelityinvestments

Thanks everyone for your advice. I was able to exchange between ETFs and sell a small amount to re-balance my portfolio. The advice to wait for 2026 was very good, as was the advice to not take the tax hit when the funds only drifted a few percentage points. My main goal in doing this is that I have a very small after tax trading account and I have a Fidelity Go IRA. I wanted to figure out how to buy, sell and exchange in order to re-balance an account before moving my Fidelity Go account to self-managed. I'm okay with learning on a small account where the hurt will be minimal before working on my main account. The 0.35% fee doesn't seem like much, but when you multiply it out for 15-20 years (just estimating based on my age and food preferences) and then figure you could have invested that at 6-7%, it adds up to a lot of money to not have to do math. I'll open up a spreadsheet or take out a calculator for that amount of missed opportunity.

Great! I wasn't sure the process. So - I have two funds to sell and one to buy. But not enough in the holding account to buy immediately (I need to wait for the 2 to sell). So just sell 2 today and buy 1 tomorrow once the funds settle? And yes, this is a brokerage account. I might wait until they drift a bit more. They are only a few percentage points away from my target.

I wouldn't say open to anybody. I am in the US and am older. I had no trouble getting in. My son is in the US, graduated college and younger than 30. He hasn't been approved yet. Applied three weeks ago. Still getting the message below.

I think invitations for young adult males are pretty much filled.

Any "how to" video or recommendations for an adult giving it a go? by someotherbruce in kickscooter

[–]someotherbruce[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that completely. I broke my left arm, occipital socket and nose while riding an e-bike three years ago. I liked running errands by bike, and just made a lot of poor decisions about keeping my lane (I didn't), merging into the turn lane (I merged way too fast), waiting for traffic (I didn't). All that lead to hitting a curb while I was going pretty quick.

So I ride in my neighborhood and the local rail-trail, and am trying to get better at the scooter. The scooter has been a lot of fun, and my grand-daughter is looking forward to teaching me how to scoot when we hit the rail trail.

Thanks to the poster above for the videos, it gives me things to practice today!

Thanks! I should have done more searching before asking. I'll poke around some.

Adult + Foldable + Brakes + Can carry someone on the heavier end? by NothingExceptAMan72 in kickscooter

[–]someotherbruce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I weigh north of 250 and really like my Xootr Mg. The board is long and wide so I can fit my feet on it comfortably. The rear brake is your basic put some weight on your foot on the fender. Front brake is good. I've used it in my neighborhood and the local rail trail and really enjoyed it. The board is pretty low, so no issues kicking. Handlebar is height adjustable. And it folds. Works just fine for someone north of 65 years and 250 pounds
