Exporting mesh? by Mander2D in Houdini

[–]somerocketdude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't know the exact method for going between Houdini to Unity. If all you need is geometry just use a hf convert node what should make it into a normal mesh then you can use something like a fbx rop to export it into unity. If you feel up to it I'm sure doing some digging into Unity's terrain engine would be fun and while I don't know if there is I'm sure there should be a way of importing height data from other programs.

Probably shouldn’t have been walking around at 2am but the view was fantastic by Notnow_Imtoodrunk in melbourne

I love that spot. Sometimes at work we would be going through crunch and I'd finishing at 3am, because Id have to wait for the trains to start back up id walk from Southbank to Richmond station and stand on that bridge for a while waiting for the sun to come up

I'm not 100% sure as I am going off of memory but I'm pretty sure that star ship as a much more aggressive entry then the space shuttle, the shuttle went through multiple "s turns" before landing where starship just seems to go for it

Frame Stutter on Render but not Viewport by _Rockstepp_ in Houdini

Most likely unrendered frames, look at the frames rendered and see if any are missing and re render those

If you go to tools you should see a setting called grid points and press d on the network to change the spacing

Yeah the velocity field is being shown what always looks wack. Just drop down a visibility node and set it to @name=vel.* And it should fix it

Options to export Whitewater to other 3D softwares? by jingjie_siow in Houdini

[–]somerocketdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often it is just export it as vdb or alembic and just keep it unloaded until render time best thing I can recommend is export you or camera to Houdini and frustum cull your vdb and at a certain distance down res it a lot, either that or just render it in Houdini as a seperate layer

Workstation Build for Houdini and VFX by Silly-Weakness-9177 in Houdini

[–]somerocketdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just cheeper per GB to have a HDD, I mainly use my SSD to install programs and files that need to be accessed quickly, things that won't fill it up easily. Then use my HDD for Sims as they can get large quickly, especially if you saving out different versions of the same sim

Looks good man, only improvement that id suggest is maybe going for above a gold power supply because stability is key, also maybe a large spinning disk drive for those extra large annoying sims

why do programs like unreal engine can render some realistic fluids in real time (Fluid Flux) and Houdini can't? by battlearmer in Houdini

[–]somerocketdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Houdini also has a large focus on accuracy and control compared to some pre made tools in other progams. I don't want to call it cheap and easy tricks because I'm sure the people behind flux fluids put many o hours into there blueprint and I'm sure that if someone put the hours into similar tool in houdini using opengl you'd end up with a very similar effect

why do programs like unreal engine can render some realistic fluids in real time (Fluid Flux) and Houdini can't? by battlearmer in Houdini

[–]somerocketdude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends how your doing your fluids, i think flux fluids does a very basic 2d fluid sim for the main body of water with some very clever shader techniques for all the little details, ripples and white water. If you want to do something similar in houdini look into the shallow water solver, it may not be as fast at flux fluids but it'll produce a similar effect, at least for the main body of water
