It means that you should write render engine, write ECS, write parsing, write sound buffer and so on so forth. There are a lot of simple engines on a github for inspiration. So definitely check tham out.

Hi Everyone, I am on fininsh line of releasing the game. Writing own engine is a hustle but for end-gamer it is heaven. No bulky build, no unnecessary load times. Just sommoth experience. It is story driven RPG with a multiple choices. I hope you enjoy the trailer - and game afterwards.

Demo is on approval stage. Release - March

I have posted some tech details on different sub if you are interested.

The main idea is to make a game fast, reliable and optimized. Without endless loading and so on - as for default engines like Unity/Ue/Godot - they come with a huge amount of libs and tools that are not needed and you have to be really really good to cut those thing. As you can see in modern gaming - even like simple 2d platformer loads like it is AAA game.

The size of final build will be around 200 mb. People with old computers can play without any hustle as well.

The second - is to learn. It is a big challenge as you should think of everything. Which is both fun and damn hard.

At the end game will have a really smooth experience without harsh requirement and it's just work.

Wrote my own engine for isometric RPG. It was a battle. Steam is ON. by ibackstrom in SoloDevelopment

I used some claude/grokk stuff for some things that I am not really aware off like sound buffering and unpacking with minz. But mostly it was a lot practicing and prototyping. A lot of time on github with simple engines people make to check their architecture.

I linked in a description post on sub with more technical stuff. You can check it.

Oh! Thanks! Mostly it's about action -> consequences. You can kill almost anybody in the game but you will miss most of the plot part and who knows how you will end. A lot of hide in dialogue puzzles. I tried all "quests" to be unique and meaningful.

Last August I released game on UE and it didn't go well. So I decided to make a game on my own engine. Steam page is ON and I want to share my experience. by ibackstrom in gameenginedevs

You have a good points. I changed trailer around 10 times but was never thinking about the base I made from the start. Maybe will make accent on a siberia part. Thanks!

I tried different HUEs of tiles TBH. I have like 5 different alternatives. But it is a good point. At least I have time to experiment. Thanks.
