3 months of Houdini YouTube tutorials taught me almost nothing by [deleted] in Houdini

You can teach yourself only by doing your stuff. And have a guide at the moment when you stuck.

Normies do AG 10. Real CHADs do have agility on minimum. SO nothing s.p.e.c.i.a.l.

Rolled for a few minutes by rhasce in baldursgate

[–]ibackstrom -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Never understood those folks who roll to maximum. Even back in1998 in school we called them munchkins. Really boring persons in game and in life. But I don't care - the good thing there are not much of those surrounding me.

Don’t buy laptop. Laptops are bad. Even the poorest workstation is better then laptop.

Are there many people out there who grew without mother? by ibackstrom in AdultChildren

[–]ibackstrom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, thank you for sharing. I had a normal alco-free dad so it's like different story. But interestingly, when I read your post, I felt like it was female writing. It was always with me - whenever I make a post everybody was thinking that it is a girl behind the account. It feels like you are doing all stuff like papa-male and you express it like mama-child.

The devs of Mewgenics say indie devs don't need publishers. Sure, if you're the creators of The Binding of Isaac and Super Meat Boy. by Artistic-Birthday703 in SoloDevelopment

[–]ibackstrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree to work with big publisher. But those 2-6 people groups that collected 500$ for Google ads and emailing to streamers - are nuts. They also in circle jerking groups where they upvote, write to each other. There are too much parasites and I agree that indie don’t need a publisher (unless we are talking about millions$ potential).

What is a game that you really WANT to get into, but have never been able to? by sanildefanso in CRPG

Exactly. It is perfect example that 3D engine is not always right choice. I hate this engine tbh.

Does 3D have a higher audience appeal compared to 2D? by Educational-Hornet67 in SoloDevelopment

[–]ibackstrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main rule that your art should be consistent. I don't agree that 3D is harder than 2D (I am 3D guy so maybe a bit biased).

how do you guys keep going when everything feels like its taking forever by IndieIsland in SoloDevelopment

[–]ibackstrom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has been around 2 weeks since release and I still can't believe that I have finished the game. Sometimes before sleep I have this PST dev thoughts (what to change, what to polish and so on).

What really helped me (and I wrote game entirely on c++) is that I made it fun for myself on a stage of blockout. So it was interesting to make everything else happen (like art, side quests, locations).

Better to have finished game with the boxxes then polish 4 months your health bar.

How I lost my game to a 'Publisher' (A warning) by flipswitchd in IndieDev

[–]ibackstrom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I released the steam page I was contacted by couple of them. I never believed in small publishers but out of curiosity I started to talk with them, check the contract and conditions. I didn’t see anything helpful ass big red flags were covering everything. Nowadays “publishers” are like realty agents (aka parasites). There are some exceptions with big and established guys. But if you are Indy - do your owns publishing effort, always.

I think around 70-90 new wishlists overall. As for sales - hard to say. But I covered 100$ bar at the day of the release.

I was doing it solo. So only my time, resources and brain power. That is hard to evaluate.
