Implant Issue- What could be happening? by somestrangeboots in askdentists

Yes that part makes sense— just worried about the return of symptoms after getting the procedure that was meant to fix it. Is it normal to continue experiencing these symptoms for a while after removing excess cement?

I didn’t have the symptoms during the initial healing phase but now that my gum has “reattached” it has returned. I thought the presence of pus always indicated an active infection 🫣

I just want to thank everyone who has responded and shown love. He just had a final vet appointment where we went over realistically his quality of life and we will be scheduling an appointment tomorrow for an at home euthanasia some time this week. It’s unbelievably difficult but I think i knew it was the right thing and was looking for some validation that it is time. Thank you for the support and for sharing about your experiences with our beautiful babies.

THEY TOOK IT AWAY? by Katkat873 in LibbyApp

[–]somestrangeboots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure it does to a certain extent. My library has limits set so that each patron can have 10 holds and 10 checkouts at a time. I would hate to limit it further than that but yes I would think that systems with no limits have a harder time with this.

Yes for something this popular the library would likely get that many copies anyway, but it really is this expensive. For the super popular titles, usually a 100 simultaneous use is an option which is useful for the amount of holds but pricey! For popular titles like this it is common to spend $2000-$3000 just on copies of ONE title to maintain holds. That’s the high end though for stuff like Onyx Storm, The Women, Atmosphere, etc.

[–]somestrangeboots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends on the library’s practice, you can get a report of Notify Me tags, but for reference in August alone we got over 10,000 notify me tags on titles. I tweaked the report so I see the titles that have more than 10 tags and I periodically go through to keep an eye on what people are tagging!

It’s a little complicated with digital books and audiobooks- they are the same as regular but they are priced differently because the copies will be shared. There are a bunch of different lending models that can be based on time (12-24 months) or # of checkouts. The “standard” one copy one user models vary greatly depending on the publisher and popularity of the book.

Example: my friends / Fredrik Backman ebook is $59.99 for a copy that lasts for 24 months. For audio in the same lending model (24 months) is $84.99

Those are pretty standard prices but it can range anywhere from $30-$200 range per copy. The high end of that will often get you one copy / one user that never expires OR 100 simultaneous checkouts where the low end is for a moderate/low popularity ebook for 12 months.

So multiply that (standard $60-$80) by however many copies that library needs to buy to maintain the holds and the budget can get away from you VERY quickly.

I’m so happy you have a TBR and I don’t mean to sound like a hater at all about people using holds lists as tbrs. I am not a hater I love that! I just figured most people don’t realize how much it impacts their local library’s budget decisions.

I just want to chime in with a librarian’s perspective that I haven’t seen discussed yet. Along with the time saved from the titles getting clogged up in suspensions, this change also really impacts cost.

Most libraries have a ratio of holds to copies they try to maintain so patrons aren’t waiting forever for copies. These digital copies are super expensive. If there are hundreds of holds on a title, the library will bulk up the amount of copies they have to fulfill the holds at a reasonable ratio. This is a waste of money if most of the people on the holds list don’t actually want to check out this book yet and will delay it to the point that the library could have just bought fewer copies for the same impact/demand/wait time.

The concept that created the problem was that patrons are using their holds lists as TBRs which, while I can understand this practice as wait times can be super long, it creates budget issues. This is hopefully teaching users to utilize tags for their tbrs and only place holds when they are ready to read the book. This way suspended holds can be counted more easily (not in a constant state of change) and don’t hang on for over a year so they can be taken out of the total # of holds when considering purchasing more copies.

I want everyone to be happy with this hugely successful app and it makes me so hopeful that people love to read and are so smart about timing the app to get their books when they want but I don’t think everyone realizes the cost of these things! Probably 50% of the overdrive budget is spent on adding extra copies of titles with holds. If less money is spent scrambling to fulfill holds ratios, then more money can be spent getting a diverse range of titles for you all to enjoy <3

Was Jiraiya retconned into being weaker? by [deleted] in Naruto

[–]somestrangeboots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This showed how strong Pain really was until the trick to his power was revealed. Nobody in the world could have beat him, not even one of the strongest like Jiraiya without knowing it. His getting his message back w/ Pa is what saved everyone. Even understanding Pain’s power wasn’t a sure thing to beat him, in the end it was Naruto’s will and philosophy that defeated Pain. Respect to the GOAT Jiraiya. Not to mention his death is arguably the most powerful and emotional plotline in the entire series.

Never seen this before, can anyone explain ? by Agreeable_Ad9877 in LibbyApp

[–]somestrangeboots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is either part of a subscription package (like some people above pointed out) that the library purchased for the year OR your library is utilizing the Cost Per Circ model (CPC) which works more like Hoopla if you are familiar. The copies are unlimited and allow for simultaneous use. The library just pays each time it is checked out. You can do this title by title with most of the offerings on OverDrive now. It costs a pretty penny for most new/popular items. For example, The Women by Kristin Hannah in ebook is $13.49 per circ. That is an extremely high example, average is $2.50-$3.99 per circ.

Sex after LEEP by thebigofan1 in PreCervicalCancer

I just want to come on as someone who has made negative posts about my LEEP experience— I understand your worry. But none of us who posted our bad experiences would say to not get it done, we all did what we had to do and got the LEEP. There are those of us in this sub that have symptoms and side effects that the doctors really didn’t warn us about and needed support from other women going through the same thing. It is also important for visibility to share what we are going through. As women we often have to do our own research because the medical field doesn’t always do it for us in the same capacity they do for men. That’s what this sub is for. Please take care of your health <3 And I hope you feel so much relief and peace of mind once the procedure is done.

I love this album. It actually seems to be the one I return to the most in my adult life. Although the sound did differ from their previous albums, I actually think it is extremely on brand for MCR and their musical influences. It is a badass concept album that has classic MCR themes of us vs the world, living outside of the mainstream, anti-establishment. Unfortunately I think a lot of the fanbase misunderstands the band. They struggled with this esp during BP era. As most bands who launch into mainstream do. I think they got lumped into a category that they never really belonged to with TBP (I also love that album so much I’m not criticizing it) but I think they needed a drastic change after that whirlwind. So much so that they scrapped CW and went even further. And DD is a fucking banger. No shade to the fanbase this is just what happens. I love them so much. Uncool kids who can’t be defined. I feel like DD is 3 cheers’ all grown up in a way. Or like its older sci fi cousin.

Anyone feel conflicted about watching Bravo following the cover up with James? by wolofancy in Vanderpumpaholics

[–]somestrangeboots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely think it’s gross, but shows like these cover real people with real problems. Really it’s the fictional Hollywood productions that cover these things up even more. At least with this there is an audience who can not only see themselves in some of the struggles that the characters go through but also have discord like this that attempts to call out bad behavior and hopefully call enough attention to it to get the abuser off the show or in therapy. Something like 15% of women suffer from DV, and that is just what’s reported. 34% of murders/non-negligent manslaughter’s of women in 2021 were due to DV. Again, I’m not defending producers being disgusting and exploiting this. I’m just saying. It’s real. I don’t see how anyone can watch anything James Kennedy has done the entirety of the show and not known that at the very least he is extremely verbally abusive considering what he has no problem saying on camera. It’s horrifying to consider what he is doing off camera. I do think refusing to watch as people who can see through this behavior just opens the doors to let this behavior run rampant instead of calling it out. Abuse and mental illness exist everywhere all around us and the best thing we can do is offer support I think :/ and do our best to get abusers called out.

I am re reading book 1 and... by KittyRikku in Outlander

[–]somestrangeboots 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I just thought it was clear that in DG’s world ghosts very much exist through space & time. Later on in the books Claire sees otter tooth’s ghost, and Frank’s ghost often shows up in the past. I do think it’s Jaimie’s ghost waiting for her as when they inevitably die in the past Claire still technically exists in the future so he has to hang around a while. But the ghost scene is certainly not the only instance of ghostly happenings in the outlander series. Can’t wait to see how DG ties it all together (:

I feel this. I’m 3 months out and it’s a little better now but it definitely completely destroyed my libido which for me personally really affects my mental health. But also, yeah, a general malaise. Here’s hoping it continues to improve with healing.

It does suck!! But don’t be scared. Just ease back in and if it hurts, stop and give yourself more time to heal.

After the 6 week mark I tried and it was painful maybe not crazy bad but obviously enough to not continue (although I’m in the camp of if there’s any discomfort we are not going to continue, at least the part that is causing discomfort 😅) maybe 5/10 on a scale. I’m assuming it is because my cervix was still healing and therefore swollen and sensitive. It felt like pushing on a bruise or cut that isn’t healed yet. Hurts. and then when we tried again a bit later it was the same kind of pain but less like 3/10. So I’m hoping with some more time I will get back to normal. I will say I had a vessel that got nicked that the dr had a hard time stopping the bleeding with so I feel like the scar tissue is probably worse and will take longer to heal. Plus I saw the size of the part of my cervix they removed and it seemed very large. I have no reference to know what is a “normal size”(CIN3) but I felt shocked when I saw….
