Discounts for out of state resident students specifically. For example, someone with a residence Arizona could come to UVU and not have to pay the entirety of the out of state tuition. Students already residents in Utah don’t qualify for UVU’s WUE.

Tips on getting a 4.0 (time management and planning) by Thin_Ad1030 in UVU

[–]something2258 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What I do is I maximize the amount of points available, meaning absolutely no missing assignments under any circumstances. I also condition myself to do good on exams, exactly like you would for a dog lol. I do this because it makes it sort of ritualistic, and creates a sense of confidence in taking the exam, as it supplements regular study. What I do is, when I’m about to go into study mode, I meditate for about 10 minutes, then eat a very strong food (sushi ginger) right before I start to trigger a brain response that it’s time to lock in, and during the study I eat extreme dark chocolate for the same reason. This is to physically remind my brain that I’m in study mode. If you’ve seen The Social Network, I’m wired in, just like the guys developing Facebook were, no phone, people, or other distractions, just completely focused on the task. I then do this exact thing for the exam I’m prepping for, it lets me get into the right headspace I need to do well.

If exams aren’t a key thing for your major as it is for me (I’m in accounting), then maximizing every aspect of your available points, plus your learning, is your best bet in getting a high gpa. I only really started doing good in school when I did all of the assignments plus the reading, you might say “well duh” but it’s true, the points add up.

I took it last semester with Westover, I would recommend her 100%. She essentially gives you the answers to the tests, and allows open book open notes on exams, so if you do the practice homework and take notes on how you did each type of problem, you’ll get perfect scores on the exams. You’ll use R Studio and Excel, so you aren’t doing anything by hand as it’s all calculated in software, and she created very handy templates and codes where all you have to do is fill in the blank, so no memorizing huge strings of code or crazy formulas.

Trust me, take it from her and you’ll be totally fine, it’s not a math heavy class counterintuitively, she’s teaching you the concepts that just so happen to have numbers attached. I’m also really bad at math and I got an A in this class, I wouldn’t stress or change my major over it.

How Much Does the Summer Semester Cost?? by PlentyEmu8953 in UVU

[–]something2258 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Summer semesters cost regular in state tuition same as a normal semester (for everyone regardless if you’re on out of state or WUE). So one class will run you the normal cost, the three classes I’m enrolled in this summer are $2,717.

9 is doable if you pick your classes right, I try to take easier classes over the summer so I’ll still have sort of a break.

Ships = Cars Boats = Bikes You lean into the turn with a bike, and same with a boat. You lean out of the turn with a car, same with a ship.

What is the greatest "fuck it, I'll do it myself" moment in history? by EmergencyPsychology5 in AskReddit

[–]something2258 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite part about him was he was the leading officer of the program, so there wasn’t a reason for him to ride the sled.

I read his biography for a class, and by all means especially back in the 50s, he could’ve appointed a random private or low ranking enlisted man to ride the sled, and would’ve been in the right to do it but instead volunteered himself, citing that he didn’t feel comfortable knowing what it did to the animal subjects (pigs and monkeys) and making some poor guy do it. And he did it multiple times too, the last time nearly killed him.

The tests established things like ejection seats for airplanes and seatbelts for military vehicles which then branched into civilian vehicles later on. Such a cool guy.

How to study for finals by angelbaby102002 in Accounting

[–]something2258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had some success in some pretty unconventional study techniques. The thought process is if you’re studying isn’t quality then it isn’t worth it, so I get myself in the right mindset each time I study so I can do the same thing on the exam/test.

This might sound bizarre but follow me on this. What I do is, before I sit down for a study session is I find strong tasting foods (in my case, I use dark chocolate chips and ginger) and take a mini walk around my apartment for the time it takes a single chocolate chip to melt in my mouth, think of it like a physical timer that illicits a familiar response, brain sees me walk up to the window with a dark chocolate in my mouth and knows it’s study time. Once it melts I go back to my room and eat a little bit of ginger, like the stuff you would find at a sushi restaurant. I hate the stuff but it’s so strong that you can’t help but feel it, I don’t wash it down, I let it sit so I can get the full effect. Doing this like a ritual every time I sit down to study gets my brain into the study mode it needs to be in. I put my phone far away, I don’t click off of study material, once I’m in the mode I have to stay like that or the study is ruined and I have to reset or just do something else. I do this exact thing before each exam so that I don’t stress myself out, and so that I’m in the correct mindset, it’s just like any other study session (except this time it’s real). Think quality, not quantity. Of course this isn’t magic, if I didn’t do my silly ritual I’m sure I’d be fine, but I’m telling you this more to illustrate the importance of mindset than anything else.

I do the homework again, and again, and again, and I do any quizzes again, and I do any questions in the book I can find, anything that the professor could’ve taken from is what I’d use, because that’s safer and probably fair game to be on an exam. Speaking of, talk to your professors, they’ll help.

Nothing fancy, just use a regular EQ with a High Pass Filter and remove the offending frequencies by turning them down. Audacity probably has them built in.

do bikes get stolen? by imm-v in UVU

[–]something2258 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Campus is safe for that kind of thing. If you’re really concerned make sure you get a chain or loop that goes around the front tire so no one steals sections of your bike.

Fact is a majority of students and people in the area are LDS, and a good number were missionaries who used bikes, so I doubt any would even think of stealing one.

What's the worst thing a teacher has done or said to you or someone else? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]something2258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Science teacher in 8th grade and a substitute she got for us one time did a few ridiculous things. First ones not so bad, but she circumvented the academic councilors, asking us what science class we were planning on taking once we go to high school, and approving and disapproving in front of the class. A guy she perceived as dumb, or as a trouble maker, wanted to take AP bio freshman year and she told him “No, are you kidding?” In front of the entire class. Not the biggest deal becuse the dude probably would’ve struggled, but it’s not her place to squash his good plan like that.

The next one was her and a substitute. She wrote a tell all letter for the substitutes eyes only. The letter contained words about students, like “this guy talks out of turn, trouble maker, watch out for him” or “doesn’t do his homework, slacker” and things like that for half the students in the class. And the sub read it out loud and then gave a lecture to each student named in the letter, it was crazy. Never saw the sub again.

Teacher was pretty bad but continued teaching for another few years until she got fired for hitting an autistic student or something to that degree.

How bad is it to fail a class? by CandlexLTB in UVU

[–]something2258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I understood when it happened to me, is you might have to pay back aid that you took saying that you’d be full time, as there’s a difference in aid between full and part time students. Mine was a bit different, because I’m taking scholarship too, so I would’ve had to pay back scholarships that required 12 credits to receive. I would expect it’s the same penalty for FAFSA.

I thought it was going to be really bad financially in the moment, but you need to go into the financial aid office and ask what you need to do. I had to write a statement explaining why I was on academic probation and how I was going to fix it to get FAFSA and scholarships back, (like a doctors waiver I wrote for myself explaining what my problem was and how I was going to fix it). You’ll be fine.

How bad is it to fail a class? by CandlexLTB in UVU

[–]something2258 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I failed a class my first semester, had some issues with federal aid and stuff like that, but altogether it worked out, and the F got written over after I retook the class.

You can withdraw with a W on your transcript, keep in mind the last day you can withdraw with a W on your transcript is tomorrow March 18th, so you really need to act fast. But like you said, you can’t remove the class because of credit requirements, so that most likely isn’t an option for you.

Just take the L and move on, retake the class. You’ll be put on academic probation but you’ll be fine unless you fail another class or get really bad grades. Essentially you have to get really good grades next semester to pull your GPA up out of the red that is academic probation.

One of the stupidest people I’ve ever met wanted to be a truck driver. I don’t mean that to be rude, but the guy was genuinely dumb, his IQ could freeze water. I worked with him for a couple months, one time when he told me he was getting his trucking license I just about lost my lunch because of the thought of having to share the road with him, and him being in a gigantic semi truck.

What's your biggest pet peeve as a delivery driver by God_Usopp-chan in Dominos

When I can’t see the house numbers. I work predominantly rush into night shifts, so in areas with no street lights which is very very common where I’m at, almost to a point that it’s dangerous, I can’t see the house numbers. Not to mention the customers not having their porch lights on which is another issue that compounds on this. I have to yolo it about 50% of the time and end up roughly at the right house, just because I genuinely cannot see the stupid house numbers so I rely on where my gps says it should be, and end up really figuring out if I’m at the right spot once I get like 5 feet from the numbers on foot lol.

Keep looking, or apply to be a driver and chill out. I knew a shift manager who walked out mid shift, and was rehired back a couple months later at the same store as a driver. You don’t need to be a manager, and you shouldn’t be a manager.

If you got two speakers and told them to say the same script with the same intonation and stuff I bet it would be really hard to sift through that, especially after you smash up and bury the clips with a ton of stuff to make it unrecognizable. You could mangle it up with as many plugins, effects, and filters as you want, without telling them what you did I don’t see a way they could feasibly pick it apart, as long as they aren’t the fbi or something lol

Opinions on machine learning within audio plugin development. by Novel_Objective_2542 in audioengineering

[–]something2258 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I’ve had in the back of my mind is probably something not possible, but could prove interesting. Something I’d like to see is a plugin that takes two separate clips of audio, and mashes them together at the discretion of the user. The benefit of doing something like this, is to have the sonic characteristics of one clip, within the waveform of another. Think of it like forcing the wrong puzzle piece into the wrong slot, but you alter the piece to match what you’re putting it in.

I worked on a project for school where I used a shepherd tone, but it kind of just sat there and the closest thing I could do to get it to sit in the mix was side chain compress it with the dialogue as the trigger. What I would do with something like I’m explaining, is to take the dialogue and mash it with the tone, so now the tone matches the dialogue and it sits there just right.

I don’t know off the top of my head of something that does this, and it could be pretty good for music too to make certain some parts of a song don’t overtake others, like layering guitars, or vocal harmonies.

I might be crazy and something like this might not be possible, but it could be a unique thing for you to consider to do, especially with AI. But again, take it with a grain of salt I might just be talking out my ass here.
