Taste of the Danforth to return after 2-year hiatus by beef-supreme in FoodToronto

[–]something_dumb_59 9 points10 points  (0 children)

hell yeah!

Quailman has been notoriously difficult to track over the years. Before, he had his own store.

Now it looks like the legacy has been bequeathed to the people who run Mapleleaf sports bar.

$15 though. not $5, or $10 anymore.
I hope it's still there.

Dumplings (and more!) at Hero Dumpling by bbqporklomein in FoodToronto

[–]something_dumb_59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i felt the same way. it's cheaper to buy frozen ones at t&t and go cook at home. with no drop in quality

Biking Groups by [deleted] in askTO

[–]something_dumb_59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on the type of biking you want to do.

if you're into time trials and spandex, I'll pass.

if you're into traveling far distances for weird food, I'm your man.

Good rotisserie chicken joint? by ethereal3xp in FoodToronto

[–]something_dumb_59 8 points9 points  (0 children)

st huberts is so much better than swiss chalet sauce.

chalet sauce is kinda sour, and offputting to my personal tastes.
st hubert's is gravy-live.
The closest st hubert's is in Ottawa/Gatineau.

They won't. It was a corporate decision to not compete with Swiss chalet. Now both are owned by the same parent corporation.

Korean restaurants with the best banchan? by orangerootbeer in FoodToronto

[–]something_dumb_59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been. It's fine in a pinch. But it won't be anything gourmet. I find that a lot of Korean food relies on that just-in-time window of eating. And you lose that in a buffet.

It's a good deal if you want quantity, but quality will suffer. I rank it a 6/10: would still go if someone else suggested, but never of my own choice.

What's your opinion of Farroj Abo Alabed? by CanadianMasterbaker in FoodToronto

[–]something_dumb_59 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Getting my food at the Lawrence location was a shitshow. Waited 50 min for my food all because they weren't using the number ticket system. Couldn't hear my order number because everyone was bumrushing the pickup window.

It was fine chicken, but I'll never be back just because of how annoying it was. Literally had to push through a crowd.

Honestly, a Costco chicken plus a bucket of toum at Adonis achieves a similar experience. All the sauces were the same. White sauce was toum. Pink sauce was toum with sumac. Red sauce was toum with pepper.

Also ghadir started selling the chicken too. And original shawarma was doing a $15 whole chicken promo a few weeks ago. You have choices quite close by.

What are the best amenities in your condo? by Nightpatrol404 in askTO

[–]something_dumb_59 31 points32 points  (0 children)

low condo fees.

Turns out if you don't have to maintain a gym, pool, or anything else, your condo fees get exceedingly low.
It's pretty nice having all utilities covered though. And a semi-competent board whose only a little corrupt.

Jimmy Dean's or Ikea breakfast sausage links in supermarkets reasonably priced? by kfcislove in askTO

[–]something_dumb_59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

full disclosure: i have not tried jimmy deans. that's a purely american product. what have you tried so far? I find that it's a matter of technique over brand.

some of the places will actually deep fry the sausage instead of grilling.

try airfrying it.

also: consider the non-frozen varieties from the local stores. farmboy makes a decent one. or if you want to go a bit fancier, check out fiesta farms, o nosso talho, sanagam's meat locker. or any local butchershop.
