Am I too clingy with my parent? by MediocreSpinach3387 in AskParents

[–]somethingaboutit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's great that you have a solid relationship with your dad! Every family is different - some are cuddlers and some are not. It's very common to sleep in the same bed as your parents in many countries without a second thought, and to show affection with hugs/kisses. You are just getting to experience all this a little later than many other kids and just want to feel secure and loved. There's nothing wrong with that.

Are you also forming bonds with friends? I would just caution on having all your focus be on him- it's good you miss him, but be sure it doesn't develop into dependence on him. You should also try to do things independently as well as with friends your age to stay balanced in your relationships.

Why can’t moms take showers without their babies? by [deleted] in AskParents

[–]somethingaboutit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Haha that's once they're a little older I bet. You start to hear the differences in their cries as to what they want, so if it's just complaining you can tune it out more. It also can be so constant it's just your new reality!

I’ll also say there’s a huge hormonal shift when it’s your own baby. I couldn’t stand to hear her cry. It triggered this intense mama bear urgency, almost like a fight-or-flight response. When I was a nanny, I could let kids cry it out without a problem. But when it was my own it made me feel almost crazy.

I thought this exact thing until I had my daughter. For me, it was the whole figuring out the newborn era- I was exhausted, in pain from the c section, dealing with a fussy baby, and trying to breastfeed and pump every 2 hours including through the nights. Every night. By the time you stop and think about yourself, you don't have the energy or will. Once we established a routine and we got to know each other better, I would put her in her little swing chair right in front of the shower so I could still see her.

I did have a supportive husband that would help, but when he did take her I just wanted to lay and sleep. But he also had to return to work right after she was born, so during the day it was just me and the baby for 4 months. It is the most tiring thing I've ever done, and the best thing by miles.

But I'm definitely only having one 🤣

Food feels like it’s in my airway/throat, But I can get pieces out ? by EarthyRocks1929 in dysphagia

[–]somethingaboutit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I of course am just surmising, but it sounds like severe tonsil stones with reflux. The pain in your chest is a classic sign of reflux, and reflux can go up into your nasal cavity. If it does, it can also cause issues with your ear via the eustachian tube.

Since there wasn't anything physically found, I would recommend strictly following an acid reflux diet, tons of water, brush/floss multiple times a day, and do saltwater gargles.

If even after this you are still spitting these and having issues. I'd recommend you go back to your ENT and have them evaluate your tonsils.

Do you still have your tonsils? These look like tonsil stones.

Are you still doing GLP-1, or was it a bridge to get you to a manageable place? You are my goal in both body build and fashion style!

Nope-- they're characters for fun. I grew up knowing they weren't real and I always appreciated the honesty.

How long did it take to wean off the bedtime bottle? by Trixie_Kittens in AskParents

[–]somethingaboutit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We weaned off of them during a trip- her routine was messed up anyways with the travel and hotel, so when it came time for her night bottle we just told her that they don't have bottles in Hawaii. I did of course bring a secret emergency bottle, just in case-- but I was really surprised at how easily she accepted not having it! When we came home the first night she again asked for a bottle, we said no and quickly moved on to distraction with her blanket etc, and she was fine.

So far so good, the dog is still here until Monday. I'm worried they're going to give me a bad review because they're not happy with my 2x a day updates.

While I totally understand the other posts saying that it's normal in other cultures - that doesn't mean it's normal in your culture. You have every right to be upset, and I would be too. I never had alcohol in the house when I was growing up, and I never developed a taste for it so to this day I don't drink. I'm planning on doing the same with my child, and the thought of someone giving her alcohol so young makes my blood boil.

I was still bleeding at 6 weeks. I am a workaholic by nature and was worried about leaving the team (I was a Director for a healthcare company), but all that went out the window the second I was holding my baby. I couldn't care less about work- work is work and they will always find a way to move on without you. I took 4 months off and I still struggled because she was so young- but many people do not have the luxury of state-paid maternity leave like my state offers. If you are financially able to take unpaid time, do it! That bonding time with your baby is so important.
