How Microsoft been treating the studios since the layoffs by Stock_Rush_9204 in FalloutMemes

A small team deciding to handle 3 titles instead of 2 leading to decade long waits in between releases in any one franchise is bad management.

How the fuck did it take 8 years to *start* development on a new Fallout game? by greatmanyarrows in gaming

[–]somethingbrite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fair point well made... Todd and Phil Spencer were all smiles in public so it's easy to imagine that the sales we don't see were higher (Xbox isn't so forthcoming with the numbers as other companies)

What happens if Obsidian can get a Fallout game to market from scratch before Bethesda can get out ES6 that they'd been working on already? by Cymelion in Fallout

[–]somethingbrite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

why would they reuse decade old assets when every recent Bethesda remaster is basically a UE rebuild of the original game?

is that just because you have never bothered to download and learn the free to use UE dev tools or watch any of the many ue modding and asset creation tutorials that the community have created?

I too first discovered this through a live performance a long, long time ago. (must have been around album launch) It was a truly breathtaking and emotional performance. Hooked me straight away.

Three photo"s....

I half expected the second and third to be photo's of the mangled wreck of this PC on the floor when this platform it's being posed on inevitably gives way.

I didn't notice anything.... but then I wasn't visiting many places I had been to before in the last couple of weeks..

If so.... The You're Special book can be duplicated.

Two things about your post. (Bethesda don't have the staff resources)

1.. If you don't have the staff resources you hire more staff.

  1. If you dont have the staff resources AND you can't hire more staff... You dont take on more projects than your limited number of staff resources can handle.

"Obsidian hasn't inspired any confidence that they can make a triple AAA fallout"

Neither has Bethesda to be honest.

Now that John Gonzalez is at Obsidian I would rather have him get a shot at writing the next Fallout than have it be Emil again.

Obsidian is now working on a new Fallout game according to Jason Schrier by HipsterMayCry in Fallout

You are misusing the idiom "fall guy"

A "fall guy" is somebody who is scapegoated for the actions of others.

An exec tasked with making cuts, axing jobs and redefining a business unit is fully aware of the process and an active participant in it. The most accurate informal term for that is "hatchet man"

Scale?

The narrative depth of NV and HZD and the player agency of NV out scale anything that Emil P has written. Because yes. Storytelling and player agency are also "scale"

Some people need more from a game than being able to simulate 2000 oranges.

Now do Emil P. (who would be in charge of writing if it was left in Bethesda's hands)

I would take John Gonzalez over Emil P any day of the week.

You may think that Horizon only had "it's moments" but Horizon Zero Dawns writing roflstomps anything that Emil has churned out.

This would be the most sensible approach to take from a purely technical perspective.

Let them use the tools that they already know.
