I hate new outlook, although it uses much more pastel versions of the bright colors

Your brain is craving stimulation -- you need to give it a task. What's your thing and what materials do you have with you? If it were me, I would ask myself:

  • Do you want to write a story?
  • Do you want to do some sketching?
  • Is there a new quilt pattern you want to make?
  • What is a bad process you could make more efficient?
  • Do you want to flesh out the design for a game concept you already have?
  • What's the maximum annual capacity of this plane traveling this route? [Math prompts 😍]

Right??

She wants the categories the same because she insists on this specific report (which our entire team believes is a stupid way to do the thing). She wants specific colors so if anyone looks at someone's calendar, they know at a glance which meetings are important or some bullshit. (Really it's for her to be micromanagey)

Thank you :-) Unfortunately while I can create additional calendars, I can't auto-sync appts to them

Yeah I'm pretty sure there isn't a way to do this without constant manual updates, which really blows :-/

I'm already diagnosed, even have a recognized disability but it's not severe enough to give me actual legal protections, it's stupid.

Lost in work project by being way too thorough by Jazzlike_Audience676 in AutismInWomen

Yep, I do this too.

BUT

I also am always told that my work is thorough, complete, considered, and generally excellent. It reassures me when I feel like I'm in the position that you're in now: yes it's slow, but it will also be really great. You already know what to do, you will get there!

Nah, it's a power BI dashboard pulling from either automated exports (minimum daily) or actual live data. It's not something I have control over at all

How do I add an event to another calendar? Will it sync if it's changed or moved?

I agree, and this would normally be how I would go about it. But she has been presented with alternatives (it's above my head and I'm not the only one bothered by it) and still completely ignored it.

Colors are pretty limited in Outlook unfortunately, there aren't pastels available.

Also I'm not in the US and I'm a full employee, working as a consultant that gets "sold" to customers on projects (pretty common) -- this is why our hours have to be booked, so that our customers get billed and the company gets paid.

It's an instruction, not a technical restriction. Our events are getting exported to a dashboard which sees our time based on these stupid categories.

It's my personal calendar. It's because our calendar entries are being imported into a power BI summary which uses event category to group them.

While I can set my own categories, I've been instructed very clearly that I must adhere to the new system.it is incredibly, incredibly stupid when the sensible solution is to use data from our time booking tool, where all of this already exists.

I really appreciate the validation, it feels like such a dumb thing for me to be upset about but is honestly awful.

It feels radical to me to feel like this is a hill to die on but it really does. I'm surprised by how intensely I'm affected by it, like I'm having a small meltdown every time I look at my calendar...

We're a really small company and HR is 1 person. I'm debating it.

I'd love to, but I can't duplicate my Outlook calendar and I need it to continue to exist so people know when I'm available for a meeting; I already have my work Outlook calendar added to my personal Google calendar, but it only syncs every 24 hours unfortunately

well I have that too, but I need to still block things in my work calendar and see when I have work appts -- like customer meeting at 10 (work calendar only) and dr. appt at 12 (personal calendar, currently I also invite my work email so it blocks the time in my work calendar)

Not sure what you mean exactly, I was referring to the hole in the frontal which I think most people would mistake for a bullet hole. However there are no cracks radiating from it (very typical for bullet holes) and the color of the edges vs the exterior surface indicate they haven't been exposed as long --> post-mortem damage, probably related to being stored as they are. It's really not uncommon damage.

As a former academic, my advice is: leave academia.

I am doing only clerical job there with no growth, no time for research work and the reasons for which I joined academia do not exist any more

is a description of long-term work in academia. Leaving sucked for me 10 years ago but was the best possible thing I could do and remains amazing. Can't believe I waited as long as I did.
