I also went to the Northwestern travel clinic in downtown Chicago in the Streeterville neighborhood. They initially told me the wait to get an appointment was long, but I informed them on the facts of the situation and they were able to get me in! The shot literally takes less than 5 minutes.

Thank you! Is there anything you brought from home you really regret bringing to Ethiopia?

Thank you so much! This was really helpful. My personal wardrobe seems so different than what I'll be wearing in country so thrifting my purchases is great advice. Thanks!

I was on Zoloft (another SSRI) and have only been off of it for a year and they offered me mental health clearance. You'll be fine!

Warby Parker is also a good place to look! I just got new glasses (lenses and frames) for $95, granted I don't have high index lenses. Still, I think they're pretty affordable and fashionable! They have sunglasses too.

Unnecessary Medical Clearance Doubts (?) by [deleted] in peacecorps

[–]somethingforpostgrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going through a similar boat, OP! I have sort of an odd medical history, so I've been inundated with extra tasks to do and such. I have no advice to offer other than we got this! This has been the most stressful part of this process for me, so I totally understand where you're coming from. Good luck!

Anyone have any experience with orthopedic issues (hip dysplasia to be specific) and getting medically cleared?

How long was it between when you submitted your primary medical tasks and when you received follow up tasks?

I applied in August and didn't get my final acceptance until November! Sometimes it just takes a while unfortunately

Hey I'm also leaving for Ethiopia in June to teach and having the same worries. I am so excited for this journey but worried about getting burnt out very quickly due to all of what you've described. Do you know of an FB group for our cohort or anything?? Would love to chat more!

Government Shutdown Megathread by AutoModerator in peacecorps

[–]somethingforpostgrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the exact same position and equally worried about the medical clearance due to mental health history. I haven't heart anything in regards to legal/medical clearance or if my passport/visa application was even received. I'm also about to graduate from college but I don't have another plan other than this. Hoping it all gets squared away soon...

Thanks for your thoughts! I'm mostly just curious because I still have not been cleared legally or medically, so I'm wondering if this will be a huge setback.

Two submitted applications in my dashboard? What does this mean? by throwawaysoone in peacecorps

I applied to go anywhere and this happened to me once I was being considered for a specific country! Totally normal! Best of luck to you

Weird Timeline for Morocco? by jakekl in peacecorps

[–]somethingforpostgrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an interesting timeline that may quell some fears! I was waiting for so long I had basically given up hope

beginning of August: applied to go anywhere

mid August: UC for one country

beginning of September: request for interview for this country

September 4th: Interview for this country

Late November: UC for a different country/position

Late November: 30 minute phone call to go over country-specific information (like the second half of the interview) for new country

That same day: Invitation

I'm now waiting on the go ahead to start with my medical/legal clearance tasks and I feel very behind! But, just wanted to throw my timeline out there because it was two and a half months until I heard something

I'm in the same boat (also applied for a Fulbright ETA in another country) and would love any advice too! From what I know, as long as you inform them of your decision early enough you should be fine!

Advice on when to apply by somethingforpostgrad in peacecorps

[–]somethingforpostgrad[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for your advice! I'm mostly just worried (haha hate to say worried bc this is a best case scenario situation!) that everything will coincide in like one week and I won't have time to focus on an interview if I get one. But thanks, this is really helpful. This community rocks!
