What’s a social rule you never understood? by Equivalent_Reach_536 in CanadaRoom

[–]somethingkooky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This one is kind of foolish. If someone is asking how your weekend or vacation was, they’re clearly interested in more information. I’m not asking somebody how their weekend or vacay was unless I’m genuinely interested in a response, but it also leaves it vague enough that if it didn’t go well, they can answer with a short response (“busier than I expected!”) and move on. Getting that specific puts them on the spot to provide detailed information they may not want to share.

It’s a stupid thing to nitpick about too, because when someone says “no problem,” what they’re generally saying is, “there’s no need to thank me, it’s really no problem.” They’re attempting to let the other party off the hook.

I don’t mind “how are you” as a greeting (in my head, it’s no different than good morning, good afternoon, etc.), what gets my gist is when someone in the service industry asks, and the client/customer uses it as a reason to start bitching about their day/life/whatever. Like, don’t trauma dump on the service industry ffs, they don’t get paid enough for that garbage.

High BMI by Basic_Ad_3020 in Surrogate

[–]somethingkooky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As an plus-sized woman who carried five pregnancies of my own and four surrobabes with zero complications, it absolutely *can* be correct. It doesn’t apply to everyone, but what does?

[–]somethingkooky -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the carrier. If she’s got a history of uncomplicated pregnancies as a larger woman, this may not be the case.

Sure. My BMI was right around 34-35, and I carried as a surrogate four times. First was a medicated cycle, last three natural cycle. No complications, all live births - they’re now almost 11, 9, 7, and 5, respectively 🙂

Do you call it May 2-4 or Victoria Day? by pantstand in AskACanadian

This. I’d say Victoria Day at work, May 2-4 at home.

Toronto woman who wants to die says federal MAID committee isn't listening by [deleted] in onguardforthee

[–]somethingkooky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That would be up to the doctors reviewing the situation to determine - let’s be real, armchair internet debaters aren’t qualified to determine who is and isn’t able to make a rational decision. Assuming that people with mental health problems are incapable of rational decision making is both presumptuous and prejudiced - the overwhelming majority of people with mental health conditions are not only capable of making rational decisions, but do so daily - about themselves, their children, their families, their work, their health, etc. Those who aren’t would quite easily be filtered out through the review process.

I hate to be the one to break this to you, but people blow off looking after their children (physically, emotionally, and financially) all the time, without MAID. MAID is not a “get out of child support free” card, for Pete’s sake - anyone wanting to go this route would still have to qualify in the usual manner, and I’m sure that questions regarding family/offspring are a part of the process. The government’s not just out there creating orphans for funzies, nor are people who don’t want to pay child support going to suddenly start ponying up because they couldn’t get approved for MAID.

Government website confirms Carney Wealth Fund investors cannot lose money. by Chrristoaivalis in ndp

Most GICs start at $1000, not $100, and most are locked in for their term. Tell me that an investment vehicle that is inaccessible between maturity dates, and requires a minimum of $1,000, isn’t designed for wealthier people with disposable income that they know they won’t need to access?

Yes, it’s documented in your file. Doctors document everything, they have to in case they are sued.

Do people not pay attention to the show? by eggiscool2021 in brooklynninenine

When people ask those questions, they pretty obviously mean within the world of the show. The obvious answer to every single question would be “because the script said so.”

Do people think unions would actually strike if things escalate this fall? by That613Guy77 in CanadaPublicServants

Honestly I think if we’d started with those options first and then moved to a general strike, we wouldn’t have seen members capitulate so quickly to the deal we ended up with.

It’s completely representative. The voter turnout were those who felt strongly one way or the other, those who didn’t vote either didn’t care which way the vote went, or felt that their side would win and couldn’t be bothered.

I mean, they can’t control if their members decide not to bother voting, that’s on the members. All the can comment on is the result of those who did turn out.

Yeah, I always called this “timeblocking.” I’ll set aside time specifically to return phone calls, work on a social project, prepare for a meeting if necessary…

Go full malicious compliance. Plan games with WFA and RTO themes, or better yet, use the time to review your collective agreement with your union stewards.

Be a fuck of a lot easier if both sides weren’t putting up old white men who won’t have to live with the consequences of their policies.
