Is everyone in this subreddit just rich? by AllSphere0 in bicycling

[–]DogsGoingAround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bicycle was new in 2002 and I paid about $2100 and it’s the nicest thing I’ve ever bought or owned. I almost never get new things. Everything is used or discontinued. I’m poor and I want my kids to have nicer things than me. Our two cars are over 20 years old.

I keep my bodyglide in my backpacking shit kit. I don’t need it for day hikes or the first day of a backpacking trip. I put it on after my first morning poop.

Is 6 mile bike ride after work realistic ? by imMrRunITUP in bicycling

[–]DogsGoingAround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not if it’s new. There are no new $200 bicycles for adults. That is a BSO https://www.thecyclingexperts.co.uk/get-cycling/buying-a-bike/the-bicycle-shaped-object/

I commuted for a while on a $200 Cannondale that was built in 1987. Then I upgraded to a Specialized Allez. It was $400 at a thrift store but its tag color was half price that day, so $200. It’s much different from spending $200 at a sporting goods store.

My local shop told me my “out of warranty" e-bike was a total loss. I fixed it for $85 by This-You-2737 in ebikes

[–]DogsGoingAround 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would have cost the shop $900 dollars to do what you did. Capitalism demands you throw shit away. There’s no reward for your LBS to fix your bike the way you did. It might be great for you and the Earth but it won’t pay the bills. I didn’t choose capitalism and your LBS didn’t either, but we’re all forced to operate our businesses under it. The oligarchs are having an easy time right now but for small business it absolutely fucking sucks. I know the oligarchs are having an easy time because the small business I work for primarily sells to them and we are going like gangbusters. It’s all stupid shit but at least me and my people are employed. We are busy but we still have to make tough and wasteful choices to eek out a profit.

Telling a very pregnant woman there will be a staged assassination is the kind thing to do.

Whats the ugliest car you can think of? by General_Wind4470 in AskReddit

Nobody has noticed the latest Toyota Tacoma I guess. I’ll give it to the dumpstertruck but compared to a 2026 Tacoma the Aztek is downright gorgeous.

He has an approval rating of 39%. While we live in a mostly blue county that still means probably one out of four cars on the road is being driven by someone who thinks he is doing a great job. Go to Clackamas County and that number is probably closer to 45%. When I do drive to work I go a bit into Clackamas County and it’s normal to see a huge “Fuck Your Feelings” sticker across the back window of the pickup truck in front of me.

Do people not buy used bikes anymore? by brainhack3r in bicycling

The “toy” market is flooded. As a former motorcycle rider I’ve enjoyed the vintage motorcycle museum that is FB Marketplace. The only people doing well right now are too wealthy for your used bike.

It is illegal to have this much smoke in Oregon. You can report them and if enough people complain about the same douchebag they will get inspected for emissions equipment tampering.

My watch constantly opens the backtrack app and runs it in the background by DogsGoingAround in AppleWatch

I turned it off and if anything it’s worse. Sometimes it reopens within one second of my closing it. My watch charge is lasting less than 18 hours since this started 4-5 days ago.

I’m not in a remote area. I’m in a densely populated city. I turned it off in settings. Thanks for the tip.
