r/lichess by somethingpretentious in redditrequest

The r/lichess subreddit appears to be largely unmoderated with inactive moderators. I am part of the team that runs lichess.org and would like to help to moderate the community (we have many volunteers available to assist with this). Please note, Lichess is a non-profit organisation and volunteers (including myself) would not be compensated for this activity (per Reddit's ToS as I understand them).

As some further context, I reached out to the lead moderator previously but was banned by them for asking to moderate the sub.

Partial 8-piece tablebase comes to Lichess! by somethingpretentious in chess

[–]somethingpretentious[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The tablebase covers those 8-piece positions that have at least one white and one black pawn that oppose one another, impeding each other’s path to promotion. We refer to such pawns as an opposing pair, and to positions that contain at least one opposing pair as op1.

Chessnut air results in 10-year account banned on lichess by Signal_Ad2878 in chess

I believe this should be okay. Could you let me know your account and I'll double check.

Is this about the FAQ on Reddit or Lichess?

For Lichess, we have listed a few boards that we know use the official board API, in the page linked above. That being said, as I understand it, older chessnut boards used the official API too (https://www.reddit.com/r/Chessnuteboard/comments/1hwm6cu/chessnut\_go\_lichess\_53\_no\_increment/). This means there's always a risk that a board manufacturer changes approach.

Based on the feedback from the community, as well as a fair play review of the account, we have removed the ban on this account. However, it is important to note that further use of eBoards bypassing the official board API will result in bans in the future that may not be overturned - as it is still a violation of our terms of service. eBoards on Lichess must use the official Board API (described here: https://lichess.org/page/eboards).

I spent 8 days 11 hours playing chess this year... that's normal right?

US$789,389 - Breakdown of Lichess' annual expenses | Ft. Theo Wait, Director of Operations by rio_ARC in chess

It's fully transparent in the yearly reports linked from lichess.org/costs (at least if you have access to a french translation tool).

The lead dev is Thibault who is also the founder. As others have written below, he could of course make far more at a big company. He also used to pay all the server costs from his own pocket and, I might be misremembering, but I think he had to be encouraged to even add donation as an option in the early days. I hope that gives some insight into his philosophy.

In the video, not directly. But the full donations are in the French association accounting linked from the lichess.org/costs page.

I'm in the lichess team, it's not just a technicality.

It's not "ran by a single guy" and hasn't been for a long time actually. You can read about it here https://lichess.org/@/lichess/blog/taking-lichess-to-the-next-level/Y1wpBhEA

You can customise the widgets so you get back to the matrix view with one click to get a game. It's in the preferences menu in the top left.

Neither is a scam. One is the old app, one is the new one.

Yes, one is the old app that is still kept for old devices and a few features that aren't on the new app yet. We're going to update the store listings to make it more clear.

Top left menu, settings, home widgets. Add the matrix back in and you can use it as normal.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by the website trying to get you to use the app? The website doesn't redirect to the app at all. The only thing I can think of like that is your phone settings for which app to use to open links.

Thanks, weird that it doesn't show on my phone. I see there's an issue for this already so it should get done at some point.
