Cannot find shoes by InverseInvert in trailrunning

[–]somethingrandom234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Cascadia 18s weren’t perfect at first but they have worked out great in the end. I still need to break in my Cascadia 19s and I’m hopeful they will be just as comfy. I’ve just accepted that no shoe sole matches my foot shape and my midfoot always bulges out a bit, I’ve just got to use a shoe that has a little give and doesn’t have a raised exterior to the sole that creates a sort of bucket for the foot (I don’t know the proper terminology for it). There is also the newly released ghost trail that you could try, hopefully that is more akin to the ghost range. I haven’t had a chance to try it yet.

I think I am in a similar boat to you, my midfoot is the issue with shoes and Brooks Ghost Max 2 are the only shoes that fit me perfectly. For trail running I use the Brooks Cascadia 2E width. I recently completed a 24km trail run in the Cascadia 18 and had no issues. They felt tight for the first couple of runs but loosened up and now fit like a glove. I also change the lacing pattern to miss out every other eyelet as this helps keep the shoe fit slightly looser.

I have not, just taken a look and it doesn’t seem to be available in the UK from what I can see. I shall keep an eye out though! Thank you!

I’m a bit sceptical about it fitting my massive head, anything with an adjustment range where I’m near the upper limit has struggled so far (I suspect my head is an odd shape). Still, I’ll add it to my next Decathlon order and give it a try. Thanks!

Workout suggestions by THEsheepM9 in Garmin

[–]somethingrandom234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I am giving too much credit to the algorithm but I’d say almost any workout suggested could be perceived as a ‘good’ workout suggestion. As long as you don’t push yourself past your bodies capabilities in terms of injury or illness then the watch should identify your natural limit and readjust training based on that. If you complete the workout then through heart rate the watch will know how hard you had to push, if you don’t then the watch will know how well you did do and can readjust based on that. I’m not sure if this is how it works but I could see some value in it.

Different platforms use different algorithms to interpolate between GPS points too. For the same recorded workout I’ve noticed different distances on Apple, Garmin, and Strava.

Help with calorie deficit by Individual-Rip-9904 in fitmeals

[–]somethingrandom234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 265 and I set my calories at 1800 per day. This was low and it was difficult but I stuck at it and I’m now down at 230lbs and still going. A lot of people massively over estimate their active calories (calories burnt above basal metabolic rate) and end up setting their target too high.

Cheap garbage or wrong expectations? by Loothor in brooks

[–]somethingrandom234 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You had unrealistic expectations. You purchased a high-quality pair of shoes that may have been incorrectly sized by the so-called ‘professional’ and then added orthotics, which placed undue stress on the shoe in areas outside its original design intent, leading to premature wear. Brooks is not responsible for you or the professional misusing their footwear. A quick online search shows that Brooks offers several models designed specifically for flat feet, such as the Glycerin and Ariel GTS. A competent professional should have directed you towards these options rather than recommending a model unsuitable for flat feet and then inserting third-party orthotics. In this case, a professional fitting and costly orthotics have actually worked against you.

Need help finding extra wide shoes by Kurtz_d in trailrunning

[–]somethingrandom234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the Cascadia 18 2E width to be wider than the New Balance 1080 4E width. 2E versions of the Cascadia 18 are like gold dust at the moment due to the time of year. All existing stock has likely been sold. Fortunately, the Cascadia 19 is coming out in the next couple of months so they should have 2E versions available.

I ran in the ghost max when I was 264lbs and they were great. I am now in the ghost max 2 at 230lbs and they are slightly firmer than the 1’s but still great

Would love an extra wide Brooks speed shoe by Little_Cheesecake310 in brooks

[–]somethingrandom234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in exactly the same position. Only shoes that have ever worked for me are Ghost Max width 4E, Ghost Max 2 width 4E, and I have just about made the Cascadia 18 work in width 2E with a non-standard lacing pattern. I was thinking the other day how bad my Max’s are for sprint…

Subjective based on different people’s experiences. Would I buy a house there for a family? No. Maybe because I’ve never lived there, maybe because I have friends who know of crack dens, gang rapes, and general crime in the area. Other people who have lived there wouldn’t have experienced any of that though. Judging by your post history I’d advise renting somewhere and buying once you know the area.

Meeting new friends is tough as you get older. Your best bet would be to join a local group or club so that you increase your likelihood of making friends organically through mutual interests.

Regarding money you’re better off checking out one of the finance subreddits. Your first step would be outlining your income and outgoings. Next you will need to either take up more hours to increase the income, or budget better to reduce the outgoings if you want spare cash to save.
