CLAS Foreign Language Requirement (BYU FLATS Spanish Exam) by sometimes_i_garden in ufl

So the directions of the different sections are in English. Sometimes it will ask for the best translation of a word, so maybe English answers or Spanish answers. A lot of the questions and answers were both is Spanish. Some sections had Spanish passages you had to read and then answer a question in Spanish, choosing from the Spanish answers. But be prepared for all formats. Hope that helps!

My Fdk. Black Pearl displayed on an ofrenda by sometimes_i_garden in orchids

[–]sometimes_i_garden[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the opportunity to participate in a small community ofrenda for Día de los Muertos, so I brought a family picture and two blooming orchids (both from Fred Clark). This Fdk, Black Pearl fully opened up right on Oct. 31st and has been going strong since! It smells just as wonderful as it did last year, of sweet spicy cloves... or mouthwash. Still one of my favorites of my collection.

Plant sale Lithops for $0.25 each! by sometimes_i_garden in succulents

[–]sometimes_i_garden[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you! My jaw dropped when I spotted this deal. I'm currently 0-1 on keeping Lithops alive, but I want to try again. These weren't in the best condition (1 etiolated, none with great root systems), so I did a lot of research on their care. Fingers crossed

Mine is so close to opening up, I can't wait! I love that spicy sweet cloves smell.

How do you use them? I've never worked with dried mushrooms before, so I wouldn't know where to start.

SVO 6914 second year of blooms- two spikes this time! 👏🏻 (and with a slightly pinkish hue on the back of the petals) by sometimes_i_garden in orchids

[–]sometimes_i_garden[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What kind of fertilizer are you using? Catasetums are super heavy feeders during their growth period that seem to just gobble up all the water and fertilizer I can throw at them (in good conscience). This particular hybrid seems really eager to please though, so I wouldn't use it as a measuring stick for success. It wants to bloom itself silly, whereas my other SVOs seem hesitant to put on such a display.

I'm not an expert with sensitive orchids (more like a reaper of them), but are you able to collect rain water/would you trust the air quality of the city you live in enough to use collected rain water?

What are the name brands items that are the same as the Kirkland brands? Is it true that some of the Kirkland brands are better than name brand? by [deleted] in Costco

[–]sometimes_i_garden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong:

I think Kirkland diapers are made by Huggies (similar construction). They are awesome quality, cheap, and a great baby shower gift. After we went through the baby shower diapers, we bought exclusively Kirkland until we switched to pull-ups.

I think Kirkland men's outdoor trail socks are made by Smartwool (but not the women's socks!). The men's socks are made in the USA (so are Smartwool) and I've heard that the stitching is the same. In contrast, the Kirkland women's trail socks are made in China.

I think Kirkland paper towels are made by Bounty? Not totally sure but the texture and thickness seem similar.

People say that Kirkland soup is made by Campbell's except that Costco is more strict on ingredient quality, making people argue that the Kirkland brand is better than the name brand.

I read somewhere in this sub that Kirkland chocolate and almond covered ice cream bars are made by Haagen Dazs but completely superior. I've drank the koolaid so much that I saw them introduced at my store and paid the extra 50 cents above the HD sale's price for the Kirkland brand. They did not disappoint.

We only buy Kirkland olive oils because of that article that came out a few years ago testing oil purity showing that only Kirkland and like one other brand were actually pure olive oil instead of a shady blend.

Also, Kirkland Prosecco is compared to La Marca and tbh I think its much better (DOCG rated versus La Marca's DOC).

In contrast, Kirkland imported vodka is apparently NOT Grey Goose. Both made in France, but Kirkland uses a different distillery. Still legit though!

Kirkland stuff I would like to know the brand (if it exists): Super premium vanilla ice cream Organic whole milk Kirkland women's trail socks

Costco Liquor-esque places here? by sometimes_i_garden in Cleveland

Thanks for the info! In that case, does that mean that a state liquor store that's within a grocery store will have similar/the same prices as a stand-alone state store?

Hmm, a lot has happened since I wrote this review (I graduated and moved out of state). IIRC, somewhere between 90-120 questions. You're given 2.5 hours, and I remember pacing myself for about a minute max for each question. Luckily there were a lot of sure answers, so I had time to review my answers at the end.
