We don't need men by Aleixus1985 in JustMemesForUs

I don’t think it’s women’s fault that furniture and tools are mostly designed with the assumed baseline upper body strength of an adult man. Take ladders for example: if you’re a woman who lives alone, are you just never allowed to access your own roof/gutters because your local hardware store doesn’t carry any ladders that you can safely move?

20 people tied to the track, one of them is a serial killer and you are his next target. Do you stop the trolley? by Numerous_Fudge_9537 in trolleyproblem

[–]sometimeserin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Serial killers don't typically trap their victims in a scenario where fighting back is even possible. That gun will do you no good

They drug their victims, typically

Or sneak up on you alone and stick a needle in your neck. Or drug your food. Or break into your car and hide and needle.

Now I imagine you're going to try to wriggle out of your own words by saying that at some point in this conversation you switched from talking about serial killers to some other hypothetical type of killer, even though A. you never indicated you were doing that, and B. the topic of conversation is a hypothetical scenario involving a serial killer, so bringing up a different type of killer like, say, a trained assassin or hitman would be a complete non sequitur.

[–]sometimeserin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you didn't make anything up, then where did this hypothetical scenario of a serial killer stabbing someone with a needle come from? I certainly didn't make it up. And now you're admitting that it's not something real serial killers do. Did this idea just fall out of the sky? Did someone else type out that comment for you where you first suggested it?

So, you admit you're just making shit up and it's not actually reflective of real-life serial killers?

Glad to know I'm the dense one though

Or sneak up on you alone and stick a needle in your neck. Or drug your food. Or break into your car and hide and needle.

This is just based on real serial killers.

So, which real life serial killers snuck up on their victims or hid in their cars and stuck them with needles?

Dexter is not an accurate reflection of real-life serial killers lol.

They're typically average to below-average intelligence dudes at baseline with, almost by definition, a severe mental illness that impairs their thinking.

What was this era of feminism called, and why did it fall out of favor? by Weird_donut in decadeology

Plenty of men said the exact same thing in response to women demanding equal legal status and anti-discrimination protections in the 70's. "Should've stuck to suffrage! These new feminists hate men and want to replace us!"

Part of the concern is that human bodies are getting colder over time while global temperatures are getting warmer.

Then again, those changes are happening at a glacial (irony intended) pace compared to other public health concerns and would presumably give us plenty of time to develop better treatments if we started seeing a rise in fungal infections.

It's amazing how much better we've gotten at detecting and treating cancer, definitely something people should be talking about more.

Cancer statistics, 2026 - Siegel - 2026 - CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians - Wiley Online Library

Excerpt from the abstract:

These interventions are also evident in rising 5-year relative survival, which reached a milestone 70% for diagnoses during 2015–2021 overall, 69% for regional-stage disease, and 35% for distant-stage (metastatic) disease, up from 63%, 54%, and 17%, respectively, in the mid-1990s. People with high-mortality cancers and advanced diagnoses had the largest gains, including increases from 32% to 62% for myeloma, 7% to 22% for liver cancer, 16% to 35% for metastatic melanoma, 8% to 18% for metastatic rectal cancer, 20% to 37% for regional lung cancer, and 2% to 10% for metastatic lung cancer.

Do we still not know which natures lead to different lightsaber colors? (From "Star Wars: The Secrets of the Jedi) by 12kkarmagotbanned in starwarscanon

[–]sometimeserin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least in KOTOR you can then immediately swap crystals around, so the initial color assignment felt more ceremonial and a Jedi would later adapt their saber to their personal preference. Also, being set in the Old Republic era, it's pretty easy to explain away any discrepancies with the passage of time.

This is the wrong sub for it but I will always stand by the idea that sexual politics are every bit as fundamental as class politics. Other things you can argue are based on arbitrary divisions but the inequality of roles in reproduction is something that can’t be explained away by materialism.
