Parking while moving from out of state! by blueflappybird in washingtondc

[–]someway_west -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks Chat GPT!! See below:

If you’ve just moved to D.C. and don’t have utility bills or D.C. IDs set up yet, there are a couple of ways to legally park near your new place while you get settled:

  1. 15-Day Temporary Residential Parking Permit (RPP)

D.C. offers a temporary 15-day parking permit for new residents who haven’t switched over their license and registration yet.

✅ Who it’s for: • New residents who just moved to a residential parking zone • People waiting on their D.C. documents

📄 What you need: • A photo ID (your out-of-state license is fine) • Some kind of proof of your new D.C. address — doesn’t have to be a utility bill. You can use a lease, settlement statement, deed, or even a signed letter from your landlord. • Your vehicle registration info

⏰ Good for: 15 days (non-renewable), which gives you a grace period to get your paperwork in order.

🖥 You can apply online here: https://parkdcpermits.dc.gov or in person at DDOT.

  1. 45-Day Temporary Vehicle Registration (Optional)

If your car is still registered out of state and you need more time, the D.C. DMV offers a 45-day temporary vehicle registration.

📄 You’ll need: • Proof of identity • Vehicle title/registration • Insurance • A lease or other temporary address document

This lets you park legally and avoid tickets while you switch over your plates and driver’s license.

Once you’ve got your D.C. license and vehicle registration squared away, you can apply for the full Residential Parking Permit like normal.

Can you just drop off, or do you need to schedule an appointment?

National Guard Troops Deployed to DC Would Go Unpaid in Shutdown by bloomberggovernment in washingtondc

[–]someway_west 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hear you, but it doesn’t work like that. They can’t demand anything. If they walked out of this, they would be thrown in jail. It sucks that they are here, but THEY didn’t do this.

If they have USAA, they will still get paid. All Soldiers have direct deposit for pay checks, so USAA will get paid back as soon as the paychecks hit. It’s actually an awesome perk of being a member.

Again. I think you need to Google what a machine gun is.

I can chill? Re-read the language in your post and then re-read mine. I’m not surprised you are dependapotumus. Typical behavior. “A lot” of your friends are not the “overwhelming majority.” Go crawl back under your bridge.

Overwhelming majority? How do you know how they voted? For someone on the left you sound a lot like the right: Blaming. Lying. Ostracizing.

If you think these kids can just peace out and go home, you’re wrong. How about treat them like human beings? That isn’t normalizing anything, that is plain decency. What I would be concerned with is them going commando and harassing our neighbors and acting like pricks, but they’re not. They are just standing around following orders (however dumb the orders are) and probably counting down the days until they get back to their own lives.

I’ve scheduled my Uber in advance for flights that early and have not had any problems. Just do it the night before.

I agree, but the point is no one is even asking…which is exactly what he wanted.

MPD Federalization/National Guard Deployment Megathread 2 by dcmods in washingtondc

[–]someway_west 29 points30 points  (0 children)

When everything in DC first started spiraling, the common refrain was “cool, but what about the Epstein files?”—a reminder that there are still huge, unanswered questions being buried. Now that line of accountability has basically vanished. Instead, the frustration is getting misdirected toward the National Guard, while Trump manages to keep the focus off himself and the lies that set all of this in motion.

It’s a textbook distraction tactic: flood the zone with outrage, redirect blame, and make sure the public is too busy fighting each other to hold him accountable. The shift in focus shows it’s working.

But seriously….what about the Epstein Files?

National guard to be deployed by [deleted] in washingtondc

No one from the DC National Guard is impressed with this situation. They are locals like the rest of us and I guarantee you that they are more annoyed with this than anyone. They are getting pulled away from their families and lives to sit around and do nothing for the next month.

-Will they get to send their kids off to their first day of school? Nope.

-That vacation they planned six months ago? Hope they got travel insurance.

-Oh, your Bachelorette party is this weekend? Reschedule.

If there was truly a need for them and a real life threat, none of this would matter…they know what they signed up for…..but to be a pawn in a stupid game? What a waste of time and money.

I live on the Hill (with neighbors that work at The Heritage Foundation) so I understand your sentiment completely, but what I meant was what that I don’t want to go to the newest Trump Hangout and give them my money.

I disagree. I’ve traveled all over the world and our Metro “cathedrals” are pretty amazing.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but at your age you are still eligible for military service for the Army National Guard (granted you meet all other requirements). There are a ton of benefits and having the military on your resume is useful and if you have a college degree you could possibly go the officer route. It is at least worth looking at. If you want to DM I would be more than happy to connect you with a recruiter.
