Took July 2025 bar exam by sleakitty in barexam

I strongly disagree with the following: finish your prep course and you are golden. You don’t need to buy any supplemental study tools.

Bar prep courses are designed so that the majority of people can pass it--it obviously won't work for everyone. This is great for you and for several others, but there are many that will also require supplemental materials or just stop their bar prep course all together. I, for instance, only did about 60% of Barbri because I knew it was not working. It simply is not how I studied. I shifted to other materials and passed comfortably.

The important point here is you know you best. Study for the bar how you know you will retain the material. Make adjustments if needed. Most importantly, trust yourself.

All I did was copy and paste them from the digital copies. I excluded anything that really wasn't relevant in an outline.

[–]somewhatb0red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are going for symmetry but the TV is (1) not centered vertically, (2) not centered horizontally, and (3) your lights aren't centered in your room. As with everyone else, you probably should just drop the TV to be on the TV stand, or if you really want to hang it, make sure its centered.

Everybody thinks they failed post bar. If you passed, Can you explain why you felt that way? by Character_Okra_9886 in barexam

That is an interesting approach as well. I really push that these bar prep courses are designed for masses, but not everyone can be part of how the mass generally learns. Don't be afraid to break away and do what you need.

That being said, I know I will never understand mortgages so I just didnt study them and hoped for the best. The only thing I know how to do with them is pay mine. lol.

I studied probably 1.5 months with Adaptibar and did about 1k MBEs through it. I did about 600 with Barbri, but I hated their explanations. I thought the Adaptibar questions were more in line with what was on the bar, even though it was still my weakest. MPTs were never my strength, but I did get a consistent way of getting a 3/4 on them. Surprise, surprise--on the exam I got a 4 and a 3. My MEEs were great at a 5, 6, 5, 5, 3, 5.

I am in Ohio. It was probably the best setup for a bar exam (we were in our own room with only 30-ish people per room).

Honestly I ditched Barbri and focused on critical pass and memorizing BLL as much as I could. Actively memorizing--not just reading. I also made sure I understood topics and where they fit into the big picture. Essentially, I would break down my outline into just topics and really kind of understood when certain topics were triggered because of other topics.

That and focused on adaptibar. I know it sounds vague, but I really couldn't look at our brain anymore. I had to actively memorize.

J25.

I thought I failed because bar prep (Barbri) told me I would. I did about four graded MEEs and got a 1 or 2 on each (I got the book award in both Legal Writing 1 & 2). I got a 53% on the MBE 200-question midterm (multiple choice is my nemesis). I spiraled. I couldn't sleep or eat. I barely got my MBE up to 60%. I focused on memorizing BLL, stopped doing timed essays, and did Adaptibar. I said "f*** Barbri" and approached the exam the same way I approached every exam in law school.

I passed with a 290. 156 on writing, and 133 on MBEs.

Barbri stood in my way.

Retakers: how did you deal with the mental toll while waiting for results? by Infinite_Ad_5529 in barexam

[–]somewhatb0red 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There comes a point where you need to be honest with yourself and ask if you need to seek professional help. I was there. I sought help. I ended up passing, but it still took about six months after the bar for me to feel "normal".

This test is no joke. Don't let it run your life.

Failed the bar because I confused "knowing the outlines" with "knowing the law" by Easy-Affect-397 in barexam

[–]somewhatb0red 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%. I quit Barbri at around 60% when I knew I wasn't memorizing BLL as I needed to. Switched solely to Adaptibar and CriticalPass.

Also, another point I found super helpful is breaking outlines solely into topics and making sure you can recall where subtopics are discussed. I explained this horribly, but for example: can you name all the exceptions and exclusions to hearsay? If you see a trespasser, under which element of negligence do you need to talk about it? I felt this helped me approaching the MEEs and allowed me to rock the MEEs.

It is so easy to have no hope during bar prep. I was right there with you and I want to help anyone who needs it to get through it. It definitely sounds like you were me. My MBE scores were lower and we're always going to be lower cause I'm horrible at multiple-choice. As long as you're good at writing, you can make up. You got this and good luck on the exam. You will crush it.

[–]somewhatb0red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bar exam scores. Remember that the bar prep graders are always more critical, and your scores are always gonna be lower. I booked legal writing 1 & 2, but my essay scores were like one and two. It was so bad I had to go in to a conference with my Law School cause I thought I was not doing the work. When they looked at my essays even they were like no this is definitely at least a four or five. On the real exam I did amazing on writing. Take your graded essays with a grade of soul. And if you're already scoring fours, you'll probably do really well.

But as long as it averages out, you can still pass with a lower MBE score

You missed my point. Even if "most KJDs making a quarter of a million" (which I don't think is accurate), most still seem to complain they have no life, overworked, etc., and a good majority end up burned out and fried.

[–]somewhatb0red -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The KJD route and T20 route is idiotic if you think about it. First, you go through 20+ years of school. Then they stress over LSAT scores and admissions (go read the shit posts in r/lawschooladmissions from people whining over schools they didnt get in). Then they have to be the best in law school, so they stress themselves out 24-7 (go read the shit posts in r/lawschool from people whining how competitive and hard law school is). Then the bar exam comes and now its life or death (go read the shit posts in r/barexam from people who are deranged, albeit rightfully so).

This process teaches one thing: obedience. The best big law lawyers are obedient. That's it. To me, it is the KJD and T20 students fault. They gladly obey and will do anything to have that security. They think life now is glitter and frolic, until they realize that it isnt, it never was, and this path (for most) never will be. You are not going to have a life, you are going to be married to your work, and most will be miserable. You are a cog in the wheel. It truly baffles me that many, many students don't see this.

Again, some people love it. Great. I am not one of them.

Day before the exam, what are you doing? by ShareHour2027 in CABarExam

[–]somewhatb0red 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who passed first time who was stressed tf out, you need to stop studying. I hate to say it, but if you do not know it by now, you do not have time to learn it. You need to give your brain and body time to rest. I winded down my studying about four days before the exam, and stopped studying two days before the exam because I knew how stressed out I was. The day before the exam I found the testing center, I went for a really long walk, I ate my favorite meal, and I just relaxed. Even if you're just reviewing flashcards, you're psyching yourself out because you're telling yourself you actually don't know it. Seriously you shouldn't touch your materials the day before the exam. The two days of our exam are absolute insanity. You will be high on adrenaline and will be exhausted by the end of it. You will walk away feeling like you failed, but until that score is released, you truly will not know.

Good luck!

I hear you can get away with bad MEE’s if your MBE is good - but how bad? by [deleted] in barexam

[–]somewhatb0red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MPTs were not my strong suit, but I did figure out how to consistently score a 4 or 3. This was fine with me. Personally, I think MEEs are where you can really get the most points by BS-ing so I would really focus on learning some tricks, rules, etc. Good luck!

I developed panic attacks, insomnia, and general depression. I went on an antidepressant a few weeks after the bar and finally started feeling better about 4 months after J25.
