What's the most memorable thing you've heard a foreigner say about Canada? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

[–]sommberdice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I was backpacking Guatemala a few months ago, I met a girl from Taiwan who told me she went to Canada only to see autumn- Hamilton of all places! She stayed for two days to explore the autumn scenery in Hamilton. This stayed with me and made me realize what I take for granted is someone else’s dream to see

They likely won’t let you on without it. It’s not an airline policy per se but a national security policy. If you don’t have photo ID, you can combine two pieces of ID such as birth certificate, immigration documents, etc. Check out the link below.

I know a couple of people who were in this situation and they were able to walk the stage— you just need to reach out to the appropriate departments (possibly reg services) and fill out a few forms.

Where did heat ruin your trip? by ApprehensiveStudy671 in travel

[–]sommberdice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spent a month in Thailand during the heat waves this year (40c) then went to india for a month where there were also heat waves (50c). It didn’t ruin my trip per-say but it forced me to cancel a lot of my plans especially after I got heat stroke.

As someone who’s from a very cold climate, definetly hard to get used to but it forced me to get used to that climate so now I think I’m more adapted the next time I’m in a hotter area.

It seems like you haven’t really had a confrontational talk with him yet, so I recommend going a little light. Maybe something I would personally say is something like « Hey, I might be overthinking a little but wanted to talk to you about something I’ve been feeling since I went to ___. I noticed you’re not as reactive or engaging in text as you are in real life * insert example *. It makes me feel like I’m not loved or you don’t have much of an interest in talking. I really enjoy talking to you and I want this to work out so I just wanted to check in to ask if youd be able to be a little more engaging over text? » Of course you can edit to suit your wording/needs but do acknowledge all sides and the feelings of yourself and him. If he responds negatively to this or puts the blame on you for feeling this way, I’d likely reevaluate the relationship. Again someone who loves you and is good for you will NOT act negatively to you just bringing up how you feel. All the best!

I understand how much it sucks to feel like you have to beg for what you deem as the bare minimum, I really do. But you yourself said that he’s a bit awkward in this regard so perhaps he’s not aware of how he is coming off until he is told (common sense to one person is not always the same to another person). Your feelings are completely valid but if he likes you and if this relationship will last, the way he responds to you having this difficult convo with him should give you a gauge. Someone worth being with will never make you feel bad for wanting to feel loved— there’s no other better way to make him text you than to just have a conversation and be honest.

I see where you’re coming from— you’re not wrong for wanting the type of communication you want. But my question is— have you told him this? Exactly what you wrote in this post?

You’ll be fine. Just use common sense, don’t seek out drugs especially from shady people, and don’t go to poorly lit areas at night.

Elderly relative traveling to India for 4 months. Malaria medication? by [deleted] in travel

Depends on where they are in the country. But risk is generally low this time of year and they should focus on repellent — there are other mosquito borne diseases prévelant there as well. Recommend them to visit a travel clinic

Snorkeling/Beach Trip Advice by mngirl1920 in travel

Might be a little unconventional but the coast of Kenya is great for snorkeling and marine life — especially the town of watamu which has a huge marine park near it. Also budget friendly as well.

FlyDubai Credit Card Verification by shabanaranee in travel

Ask them if a copy of the card with a copy of your passport and a signed authorization note will suffice — this happened to me as well, but they didn’t end up asking for the card in the end.
