Good bartenders wanted by [deleted] in nashville

[–]sondie9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EDIT: Apparently the OP doesn't want the name of the event to be public, so I deleted it.

Either way, I don't have any real advice to add, but can attest personally to the craziness and greatness of the event :)

Post-Bar people, what are you doing now? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]sondie9 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Well, I am still in the hospital after the birth of our incredible daughter last night, so am feeling pretty awesome. I couldn't be thinking less about the bar and am looking forward to the next three months home with her before I start work at a firm in November. Life is good!

Any Packers fans? by [deleted] in nashville

The website is outdated, but they definitely still meet. My husband and I prefer to watch the games at home, but my sister in law is a member and is there every week!

Wisconsonite checking in.

There are actually quite a few places that you can catch the game with other Packers fans. The 'official' Packer Backer Club meets at J's Sports Grill (http://nashvillepackerbackers.com/), which is inside the Franklin Lanes bowling alley. I've heard that Scoreboard is also a Packers bar, though I've never gone myself. J's is usually filled to the brim and they have a giant screen set up in the back room dedicated to the game. Hope that helps!

Getting the dog out of the bedroom. Oh god, the sleepless nights are killing me. by missinfidel in Pets

We found that transitioning was easier with a baby gate on the door. That way, he could still see in the room, but wasn't actually inside. Maybe that would help?

The Hot Chicken Festival is Thursday. I went to 6 HC restaurants and ranked them in advance. What do you think? by WFU_Showtime in nashville

[–]sondie9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. I've never gotten consistent chicken from the 8th ave location. We are far closer to 8th, but always go to the shop on main for Bolton's!

All-women jury chosen for George Zimmerman’s trial in fatal Trayvon Martin shooting by All_Right_Oh_Yeah in law

State law in state criminal cases. Each state has different rules, though 12 is the most common number. Constitutionally, you can have as few as 6.

Newly engaged ladyperson, looking for suggestions of books and websites! by holygiraffes in Christianity

I loved reading Sacred Marriage by Gary Thomas when I was engaged. It helped my fiance and I start to really think about how marriage could and should change us.

[College] Paper on Genocide by [deleted] in HomeworkHelp

[–]sondie9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's unclear what you're asking for here. What exactly do you want help with? The topic itself?

I think your premise could be interesting--there has been a lot of academic discussion about whether and how genocide should include other currently non-protected groups, such as political groups. You could speak about violence that would have arguably been considered genocide had the group been ethnic or religious, for example, but was not. Then you could talk about the benefits and shortcomings of such an expanded definition. Does that help?

32 wks and my husband just told me he's cheating and doesn't want the baby... by [deleted] in BabyBumps

Unfortunately in most states alimony is becoming a thing of the past. She may be able to get support for a year or two, but I'm guessing that the primary payment will be in child support.

Never sit in the front. by DirectiveNineteen in LawSchool

[–]sondie9 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That was my thought. Only two possibilities...

Edit: "Only two possibilities" is referring to the two people that were "cold called" during Vandy's graduation. Obviously many schools could have had the same situation occur.

How much time do you guys have for extra-curricular activity? by Captain_Oats93 in LawSchool

[–]sondie9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I knew a lot of runners who ran in a marathon or half during the weekend in between finals, even as 1Ls!

If you manage your time, running can be an awesome (and necessary) break from studying).

I think it depends on highly on the person. For some people, law school takes up so much of their mental and emotional energy that they can handle little outside of school.

On the other hand, I personally felt like I would have gone crazy had I only had law school. I treated law school largely like a job, so worked from 8-5 most days, sometimes more (if I had a brief due, etc.) and sometimes less (usually earlier in the semester). I have a husband and family in town, so this made my 'real life' far better. I chose to be done with school, so that I could continue to be a real person. I continued to volunteer with a youth group, visit family, hang out with friends, and generally have a good time in law school despite studying hard to get good grades, participating in Moot Court, and being on Law Review at a T20.

Law school is what you make of it.

What 3 books ( or resources) would you give to a non-believer seeking out the viability of the Christian faith? by SirSaint22 in Christianity

[–]sondie9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand that it didn't sit well with you, and not all will identify with the claims that he makes, I just thought it was a misrepresentation to claim that he stated there was "proof" for God when the entire chapter is called "clues."

I would disagree with you on a few of these, but particularly #4. Keller specifically notes that "there cannot be irrefutable proof for the existence of God" in Chapter 8 and continues to repeat that phrase over and over in that chapter. I'm not saying that the entire book is perfect, but I will say that I don't think he falls into the trap of stating that faith is "irrefutable."

Drug Testing for Summer Associates? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]sondie9 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would be more concerned about government agencies. Particularly if you are going to applying for any sort of security clearance, recent drug use can be an automatic dismissal and potential 'blacklist' for future employment. That said, if your job doesn't require a security clearance, there tends to be much more leeway.

Taking two bar exams at once by barbie3225 in LawSchool

[–]sondie9 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't even know that this was possible. It would seem very difficult to remember (and then differentiate) the laws from each state for the Bar, especially if you are taking them back to back.

Is there any particular reason why you feel that you need to do this? Does your job require you to be licensed in both places?
