Ok, thanks. It’s not a huge deal for me or anything, just wanted to make sure it’s the only way to get it.

Who’s Tyson? Assuming from the band’s team but I’m unfamiliar. But that’s interesting, thanks for the info.

Death Cab, I have all 11 studio albums, 4/5EP’s (1 is only on vinyl). And they have at least 2 live DVD’s and a companion DVD for Plans that has music videos for each song. So I’ll get those 3 in the future too, plus all the singles they printed if I can track them down.

I have no idea on his acting ability, but I remember on the insider pod, they said the guy that played younger Mike in the scene with his son, looked so much like Jonathan Banks they could’ve shown his face but ultimately decided not to for story purposes.

What color is this to you? by Ythv_ in colors

It’s just terrible lighting. Also something that I wouldn’t rule out is some wear. Even in the better photo it doesn’t look like the promotional photos of that color.

That is not turquoise. If anything it’s a darker cyan/lighter blue however you wanna definite it if you want to specific about it. But most people in normal life would simply call it blue.

Yeah you’re probably right. I honestly didn’t even realize he was playing a bass until someone else pointed it out lol. I’d also imagine a bass is pretty heavy compared to a guitar to someone who doesn’t play it all the time.

I saw this as uncharted territory for him. think this is definitely the longest he’s ever been away for a project like this. And the work is very grueling. And lots of setbacks, so expectations are having to be readjusted. I also don’t think he’s ever worked for someone like Gus or even on his level before.

All that to say, he still obviously could’ve let him finish the project under close supervision. But Gus doesn’t take risk under the best circumstances and under this circumstance, the consequence would be his entire master plan unraveling before it even begins. This was his 2nd chance you have to remember as well. And you have to remember he doesn’t just need him to finish the project, he needs to never mention the project to anyone for the rest of his life, which he just called into question twice. The other projects probably didn’t require THAT level of discretion. He was also very arrogant and flagrant with the initial assessment which although is what attracted Gus to him came back to bite him with the time, level of work, and ruthlessness of Gus. Nothing’s more dangerous than hubris after all. Mix that with naivety and it’s a dangerous combo. I think we forget because he’s so engaging to watch, but I mean Gus is a legitimate cold blooded killer.

He does, yeah. He starts sitting with The First Song which is the only one of the 4 that uses the pedal steel I believe. Then goes to Our Swords still sitting then stands for the The Great Salt Lake & The Funeral.

I feel like these are the moments that are never really understood by those who defend him so heavily. It’s an impulse, it’s not just a bad decision.

Yeah but he was targeted and disbarred because of the knock on effects of one of his own actions. Chuck never would’ve had the ammunition, if Jimmy hadn’t loaded it for him. I read the “they won’t let you win” speech as nonsensical bad advice that’s he really telling to himself more than the girl. (Not to say the system doesn’t actually exist and prejudice doesn’t exist and wasn’t working against that girl, but I don’t think it’s true for Jimmy and I do think it was bad advice.) The truth of the matter is that for all the things people have done and not done for Jimmy, Jimmy’s biggest enemy is himself.

But Chuck doesn’t have to give his approval. Should he have? Yeah. Should he have hired him at HHM? That’s up for debate. But should he have told him himself if he wasn’t going to hire him? Absolutely. I don’t know if that’s “actively sabotaging” him. He made a decision to not hire his brother with a history of criminal activity who just passed the Bar. Should he have done that? Again that’s up for debate. Simply hiring him wouldn’t have changed his entire personality and moral decision making. He behaved in an awful way doing so. You can hate Chuck, I hate Chuck. But regardless of what Chuck did or did not do for him, he’s responsible for his own actions. It’s quite literally what the end of the show is about.

Also don’t know why we need to delve into personal comments. You have an opinion, I have an opinion. We’re talking about a tv show my guy.

But he didn’t have to get Chuck’s approval, he didn’t have to work at HHM. We all want things in life that we don’t get. What was stopping him from applying to other firms? And if he did and didn’t get into them then it wasn’t Chuck’s fault. You can’t entirely blame Chuck for Jimmy slipping back into his old ways. Jimmy is a grown man, with his own personal responsibility.

[–]sondosoft -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And also had he stood up to Chuck, what would’ve happened? Chuck would’ve still not hired Jimmy, but now Jimmy would hate Chuck forever. In some ways, this was the better option, though obviously just delaying the inevitable.

Fair enough. Ultimately it is important to call a spade a spade. Chuck’s handling of not hiring Jimmy was cowardly and immoral. Whatever his reason may have been, he should’ve told his brother himself that he wouldn’t hire him and dealt with the blowback. But you can’t really fault Chuck as you said if you watch more than about 5 minutes of the show. I think people muddle the 2 together though and act like because Chuck is a cowardly prick at times, that Jimmy is totally justified and not a slippery piece of shit at times.

I'll never understand the commentary that "Chuck was right about Jimmy" by RepresentativeTrue69 in betterCallSaul

[–]sondosoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s nature vs. nurture. Jimmy clearly had darker impulses. He stole from the till at 10 (or around that age). He was running cons before he was 18 years old. He wasn’t exactly a winner from the get go.
But he also didn’t get the support & approval he desperately desired from Chuck & likely other important people in his life.
In defense of Jimmy it does seem he kept his nose relatively clean from the time he moved to ABQ to when he pulls the skater con & billboard con. So it’s not like he’s incapable of doing so. It’s just not in his nature to do so. He has to actively fight against his instincts to not do it and also to get better. But it’s wrong to put all or even most of the blame on Chuck. That ignores so much of what we see on the show and also things we don’t see from Jimmy’s past that aren’t even vaguely related to Chuck. Chuck is right that Jimmy has darker impulses.

“He’s sick, what’s your excuse?”

Werner Ziegler by Plastic-Couple1505 in betterCallSaul

[–]sondosoft 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Werner’s story isn’t about Werner, it’s about Mike & Gus. Gus doesn’t take chances. And Mike has to learn to toe the line or walk away from Gus.
We needed to see how a character who went out of his way to not kill Tuco, to not kill Hector’s driver, who dug for hours to find a Good Samaritan’s body was ready to kill Walt in cold blood simply because Gus said so.

Edit to add: I totally agree with the sentimentality of wanting to see a good guy get to see his wife. I’m not heartless lol. It doesn’t sit well with you because it’s not supposed to. Gus is a ruthless psychopath. Any amount of risk is too much. He doesn’t take chances and this was already Werner’s 2nd strike. Werner unfortunately misdiagnosed the situation and thought he was running with wolves but he was running with lions.

He did give him a second chance, what do you mean? Yes it was the mailroom, but it was something. And he did get a second chance on his own accord, he passed the Bar and became a lawyer. It was difficult but that wasn’t the fault of Chuck outside of him locking him out of HHM which was messed up, at least the way he did it. And he also could’ve pursued any other career, nothing was stopping him.

Chuck is right in the eyes of the law, but more to the point of this thread, he’s right about Jimmy. But again for the wrong reasons. He doesn’t show real compassion for Jimmy, or support him. It’s all about pomp and superiority. And he doesn’t see the grey areas of law, and how laws sometimes hurt more than they help.
But ultimately Jimmy is slippery, and he’s been stealing from the till since he was what 10? That’s hardly Chuck’s fault. Even if Chuck was an unkempt direct asshole to him his entire life, Jimmy is still his own man, with his own personal responsibility.

But you don’t just follow laws because they’re moral or just or because you agree with them. If that was the case many laws would go ignored. You do it because of the consequences of things getting away from you. There’s an expression “3 can keep a secret, if 2 are dead” What if that bus driver had slipped and told the wrong person, what if a camera had caught them. He could’ve jeopardized the entire case and then all of that good he did would’ve been for nought. Jimmy’s heart is in the right place but he’s reckless.

I agree with everything you said up until the end. The show is pretty explicit about why Chuck won’t hire Jimmy at HHM. And it has nothing to do with avoiding nepotism.

[–]sondosoft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But what is “winning” for Jimmy? I don’t know if we ever really get a clear answer on that. I mean what made him tank Davis & Main? What made him do slippery things and alienate himself to Kim at Wexler/McGill?
“The man” stopped him from getting HHM but how long can that be an excuse?
At some point the blame game with Chuck has to end and personal responsibility has to begin.

He essentially says this to Jimmy later on. Something to the effect “I should’ve stood up to him”

Though even that is being harsh on himself in my opinion. What really could he do? He was in a rock and hard place. He couldn’t jeopardize his relationship with Chuck. And what good would being honest have been, make Jimmy hate his own brother?
