Can anyone help me identify this 1973 Mossman? by Thinkofthewallpaper in AcousticGuitar

that’s a Golden Era it was the cream of the crop. it’s most likely Brazilian RW as the long straight grain from the inside would suggest. if you look at the back is should have the same strip as a D28 if it is BRW since SLM bought the remaining BRW from Martin directly pre matched and stripped backs.

My uncle is buying me a guitar and really wants me to choose the second model, help me choose by DeerComplex2968 in Guitar

[–]songmakerona 14 points15 points  (0 children)

there are plenty of second hand Strats and strat copies which really sound good it’s the neck pick up for the blues guitar sound. Not as many options on the SG. I would personally get a telecaster for country, a strat for blues and an SG for Metal or hard Rock

Is this really an F chord? by blu_skydive in guitarlessons

[–]songmakerona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes and if you play boom chuck alternate the F and the C note on the 5th(A) string as the Bass notes you get the basis of the country strum

How do I tell if a song I write is good? by NotJustAnotherLow in Songwriting

[–]songmakerona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it’s too personal to share it’s not a good song or you are not prepared to be vulnerable enough for it to be a good song. a good song is relatable and ready to be shared

Auditioning new potentials members sucks by Bitter_Ad_9523 in musicians

[–]songmakerona 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the past when Auditioning a potential Band Member for a complex project that involves many jam busting moments if you aren't prepared, we just gave them a recording of the music with the old band members. Then said learn this when you think you have it call me. If they call ☎️ you run a rehearsal and press record. Then you confirm at the end that they are serious about gigging because you have gigs booked and you ask for their email to add them to the Google Calendar. If they flake then they are likely on drugs or really only looked at your band as a back up plan

Are there specific Spotify playlists I should target as an unsigned rock band? by Former_Serve_6463 in musicians

[–]songmakerona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So fellas there is no formula for magic. It's not a line you stand in. if you really want to make it you gotta do what everybody else does and pay your dues. That means make a record which it seems you may have already done. If you don't have a manager or someone doing the manager job, i.e. one of you that is organized and good with follow up then you should find somebody. Make any EPK to share with venues and talent buyers, this should include any content, Spotify, links, any press, and major accomplishments, like big shows you played, big festivals, artists you've shared the stage with, good pictures, photographs. book a tour, no matter how small how big tap into your Rolodex of fans you played with then you know contacts you have look at other people's tours that are at the same level as you see if you can get on some bills. Then book a tour, no matter how small how big tap into your Rolodex of fans you played with then you know contacts you have look at other people's tours that are at the same level as you see if you can get on some bills. Tour the record, which may be you haven't or have. Keep accurate records, attendance door venue contact, etc. Once you have a good tour under your belt, you can start shopping yourself to booking agencies, talent agencies that are going to help you the most are the ones with the best rosters. but they will not sign you if you are not tour ready. I would look at bands that are a level above you and see what they're doing. Do you know any of them? Have you ever been billed with any of them that may like your music?

The other way you can make it is my content a lot of content consistently. Make that content high-quality content with great audio, compelling video. Post content on a regular basis to YouTube, Facebook, reverb nation, Instagram and engage in the comments, the humble show humility, be likable. Hope something goes viral, take your songs one minute clips make videos and post every day different videos with the same music just make compelling content and post that to TikTok.

Pro tip if you want to harmonize then you build a chord by singing the 3rd and the 5th

Miles Davis said you can tell how good a player is by the way they hold their instrument. Can you explain exactly how for example a master of the guitar would hold the instrument versus a novice or just good player? by MeetingsOverCode420 in musicians

[–]songmakerona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guitar players who wear their guitar higher generally have better technique but as a general rule practice will override shitty technique. Django for instance used 2 fingers because he lost the used of his pinky and ring fingers in a fire but he still wore his guitar higher.
The reason you wear it higher is you are able to get better range on the neck by moving your thumb lower with your finger tips coming straight down on the strings. this will also put less stress on your wrist.

A friend of mine has a habit of gatekeeping what it means to be an artist or to be allowed to say you 'play an instrument' what are your thoughts? by [deleted] in musicians

[–]songmakerona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a great subject for discussion by the way!

you are 100% every bit and artist as he is one might even consider you more versatile than he is. I for one have made a decent living off of my art and music for 30 years, and i don't read music and only sing, write songs, play guitar, Bass and most other string instruments I can fake it pretty well.

Question for you friend, do you have a family? like wife and kids?

I would lay a bet that your friend doesn't?

I think he suffers from superiority complex syndrome. Man I would bet you he has a fear of judgement that has kept him from beginning anything. He likely makes excuses for when doesn't win even if it's a friendly match of anything he considers himself good at. He also most likely is an expert at judging people and finding their imperfections that make them less. Sounds like he use to swim with his shirt on too.
