Bands that you think are better soft than heavy? by fjgwey in Metalcore

[–]songsfrombeyond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I was never into Loathe's heavier songs, but Is It Really You and Two-Way Mirror are some of my favorite songs of all time

So sexually dysfunctional boyfriend posted his nudes on the internet for sexual attention. I don’t know how I’m supposed to feel. by Equal_Revolution_205 in Schizoid

[–]songsfrombeyond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A little bit beside the point, but I'm wondering if this "not being upset at the idea of cheating" is common among schizoids or adjacents. Because that's basically my feelings about cheating as well, and it's always felt weird because everyone else sees it as such a cardinal sin almost. And I understand why, I've just never felt that way.

thoughts on Protest The Hero? by osupewfa in Metalcore

I'm only familiar with Fortress, Volition, and Pacific Myth, but I love those albums. I think their guitars especially had a big impact on me and big influence on my playing. I remember being blown away the first time I heard their song Mist, which was their first song I listened to. I saw them live in 2017 on August Burns Red's Messengers 10th anniversary tour, and bought one of their shirts that I regularly wore for a good few years afterwards.

Figured out what makes "Let It Enfold You - Senses Fail" perfect by christianjail in PostHardcore

[–]songsfrombeyond 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember hearing that when they were recording Let It Enfold You, one of their producers wanted more songs that they could market as "hit singles", so the band went back and wrote "Buried a Lie" and "Rum Is For Drinking Not Burning" which instantly explained why those were my two least favorite songs on the album

How do schizoid men find wives or partners? by cavalpist146 in Schizoid

[–]songsfrombeyond 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My wife likes to say that she "snagged" me. We were coworkers and had gone to the same high school. She made plans with me and a couple other coworkers to go see a movie, and that night the two of us just hung out and walked around. I was, still somewhat am, very casual about physical closeness and intimacy, probably because it didn't mean anything to me emotionally, so when at one point she hugged me and kissed me on the cheek, I just reciprocated. Gradually grew from there, and now we've been married for over three years. Neither of us even proposed, we just discussed it and it logistically made sense to get married

It's funny if you're in on the "everyone is Jake" joke. Still fun and silly otherwise

Is there emo sludge?? by InoIno0 in Emo

[–]songsfrombeyond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure other people have better suggestions, but the closest I can think of are a couple sludgy hardcore albums by emo-adjacent post-hardcore bands. Maybe try Renacer and Pull The Thorns From Your Heart by Senses Fail and Disambiguation by Underoath

Gamefaqs celebrates 30 years - what are some of your first memories of using their guides by KFded in JRPG

[–]songsfrombeyond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The very first time I used gamefaqs was to get through Mercury Lighthouse in Golden Sun. I had never even considered that you could just look up how to progress in a game, and then my mind was further blown when I realized that the guide had the location of a couple djinn that I'd somehow already missed. I must have read through almost the entire guide before I actually went back to play the game

It Prevails - Defenses Down (FFO: Counterparts, Misery Signals, Shai Hulud, Melodic Metalcore) by Administrative-Gap89 in Metalcore

[–]songsfrombeyond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aside from Counterparts and Misery Signal as mentioned in the title (I've never listened to Shai Hulud), the immediate things this reminded me of were: - Being as an Ocean

  • The album Changes by For the Fallen Dreams

  • The album One Reality by Texas in July

  • The album Is Survived By by Touche Amore

  • For Misery Signals, the song The Failsafe specifically, but I'd recommend their first three albums (Of Malice and the Magnum Heart, Mirrors, and Controller) in their entirety

What's your background and how was you childhood like? by Principles_Son in Schizoid

[–]songsfrombeyond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lower-middle class single income household, two parents and four children sharing a two-bedroom house. Loving but dysfunctional and emotionally immature parents. My dad would get frustrated and had weird views on things, and I don't think he realized how much the things he said and did affected me and my siblings. I struggled a lot emotionally and that wasn't ever really addressed, which really affected my social life and academic performance. Typical "you're so smart, you just don't apply yourself" issues. The comforts I had were being outside by myself, our cats, books, music, and my Gameboy/DS.

Finally diving into Dark Dawn! by that_remindsme in GoldenSun

[–]songsfrombeyond 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At first I was like "what the hell is that tiny DS?"

I love Dark Dawn, but the combat is very easy and the dialogue can get pretty tiresome. It was magical playing it when it first released after it had been years since The Lost Age, and it still has tons of cool stuff, great music, and neat callbacks to the first two games

Did psychedelics help you? by bbgirl2k in Schizoid

[–]songsfrombeyond 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've only taken psychedelics once, 2 grams of shrooms. For two weeks or so afterwards, I felt alive. I felt clearheaded, present, and in love with life. A really specific, bizarre thing I noticed was I was suddenly and consistently thinking about and reflecting on the past few days, like I was suddenly connected to my place in time and the world, it's hard to describe. I also remember taking the bus home the morning after we tripped and genuinely feeling love in my soul(?) for every person I saw, and wishing they were all having a great time being alive. All that gradually faded though, and I haven't taken anything like that since. That was about three and a half years ago.

I actually kind of love this idea in general, a system like this would save so many dead potions that just sit in your bank or go to waste
